But if any man thinks he is [being tempted to] behave improperly toward his virgin [fiancee], and she is past prime [marriageable] age, and feels the need [to get married] [Note: The Greek says "and so it has to be"], he should do what he wants; they should get married --- that man has not sinned.
But he who stands firm in his heart,
There is for us only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we are for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we have our being through him.
Still, all men have not that knowledge: but some, being used till now to the image, are conscious that they are taking food which has been offered to the image; and because they are not strong in the faith, their minds are troubled.
For, if anyone should see theewho hast knowledge, in an idol-temple, reclining, will not, his conscience, being, weak, be built up for the eating of the idol-sacrifices?
In fact, he that is weak, is being destroyed, by thy knowledge - the brother for whose sake Christ died.
And sinning in this way against your brothers, and wounding their conscience, being weak, you sin against Christ.
if I am not an apostle to others, yet doubtless I am to you: for your being christians is the proof of my apostleship.
Know ye not that those being employed at the sacred things eat from the temple, and those who serve at the altar are partakers at the altar?
Then what is my reward? It is being able to preach the good news without receiving financial support [for it], so as not to claim my full rights in [the work of preaching] the good news.
for being free from all men, to all men I made myself servant, that the more I might gain;
And to the Jews I was as a Jew, so that I might give the good news to them; to those under the law I was the same, not as being myself under the law, but so that I might give the good news to those under the law.
To those without the law I was as one without the law, not as being without law to God, but as under law to Christ, so that I might give the good news to those without the law.
That is how I run, not being in any doubt as to my goal. I am a boxer who does not inflict blows on the air,
Now stop being idolaters, as some of them were, for the Scripture says, "The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to dance."
No temptation hath taken you -- except human; and God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above what ye are able, but He will make, with the temptation, also the outlet, for your being able to bear it.
Because we, being a number of persons, are one bread, we are one body: for we all take part in the one bread.
What am I saying then? That there is any such thing as being offered to an idol, or any such thing as an idol?
No; what I say is that the sacrifices offered by the Gentiles 'are offered to demons and to a Being who is no God,' and I do not want you to share with demons.
Eat everything being sold in a meat market, inquiring of nothing because of the conscience,
If any of those unbelievers invites you, and ye want to go, eat everything being set before you, inquiring of nothing because of the conscience.
I do not mean yours but the other person's. For why is my freedom being judged by another's conscience?
Stop being stumbling blocks to Jews or Greeks or to the church of God,
and every woman praying or prophesying with the head uncovered, doth dishonour her own head, for it is one and the same thing with her being shaven,
For, a man, indeed, ought not to be veiling his head, being, the image and glory of God, - but, the woman, is the glory of man;
This [i.e., the order of creation] is the reason that the woman should have [a symbol of] authority on her [physical] head [i.e., hair or a shawl to indicate subjection to her husband], and because of the angels. [Note: This difficult phrase probably means that angels, who observe the activities of Christian assemblies, are pleased when they see things being done in their proper order].
for first, indeed, ye coming together in an assembly, I hear of divisions being among you, and partly I believe it,
For, I myself, received from the Lord - that which I also delivered unto you, - how that, the Lord Jesus, in the night in which he was being delivered up, took a loaf,
and having given thanks, he brake, and said, 'Take ye, eat ye, this is my body, that for you is being broken; this do ye -- to the remembrance of me.'
For a man puts himself in danger, if he takes part in the holy meal without being conscious that it is the Lord's body.
for if ourselves we were discerning, we would not be being judged,
But, being brought under judgment, by the Lord, are we being disciplined, lest, with the world, we should be condemned.
Ye know that, when ye were of the nations, unto the dumb idols, howsoever ye were being led, ye were seduced.
Therefore, I must tell you that no one who is speaking under the influence of the Spirit of God ever says, "Curse Jesus!" and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord!" without being under the influence of the holy Spirit.
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
And those parts of the body which we consider less honorable [i.e., probably female breasts, buttocks, etc.], we clothe with greater honor. [Note: The Greek word for "clothe" here refers to clothing elsewhere in the New Testament]. And our unpresentable parts [i.e., probably sex organs] need to be more presentable [i.e., by being covered up with modest clothing],
Thus you are the body of Christ, being the particular members of it.
If I have the ability to speak in the languages of human beings and angels [Note: Perhaps the idea is supernaturally and eloquently], but do not have love [for people], I have become [no more than] a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
[Note: The following traits should be understood in the context of love for people]. Love is patient [with people], and is kind [to them]; love does not envy [what people are or have]; love does not boast [of being superior to others], it is not arrogant [in dealing with people].
This being so, Brothers, what good shall I do you, if I come to you and speak in 'tongues,' unless my words convey some revelation, or knowledge, or take the form of preaching or teaching?
In like manner, the things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, if, a distinction in the sounds, they do not give, how shall it be known, what is being piped or harped?
So, also, ye, through means of the tongue, except ye give intelligible discourse, how shall it be known what is being spoken? for ye will be speaking, to the air.
For, thou, indeed, excellently art giving thanks, but, the other, is not being built up.
Brothers, stop being children in intelligence, but as to evil keep on being babies; and yet as to intelligence be men of maturity.
Therefore, if the whole church assembles together and everyone speaks in languages [i.e., supernaturally], and outsiders [i.e., people who do not understand the language being spoken] or unbelievers come [into the assembly], will they not say that you people are crazy?
for the spirits of prophets are subject to the prophets [the prophecy is under the speaker’s control, and he can stop speaking];
If any man seems to himself to be a prophet or to have the Spirit, let him take note of the things which I am writing to you, as being the word of the Lord.
So, my brothers, set your hearts on being inspired to preach, and yet do not hinder people from speaking ecstatically.
Through which also ye are being saved, - if ye hold fast, with what discourse, I announced the joyful message unto you; unless indeed, in vain, ye believed.
Then last of all, He appeared to me also, as someone born abnormally. [Note: This probably refers to Paul being converted later than the rest of the apostles].
But I am whatever I am because of God's unearned favor, and the favor He showed me was not for nothing [i.e., Paul made the most of his conversion by being extra diligent in his service to God]. But I worked harder than all the other apostles, yet it was not I, but God's favor on me [that accomplished it].
Now if Christ is being preached as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead?
Nay more, we are actually being discovered to be bearing false witness about God, because we have testified that God raised Christ to life, whom He did not raise, if in reality none of the dead are raised.
But, in reality, Christ *has* risen from among the dead, being the first to do so of those who are asleep.
Else, what will they do, who are being immersed in behalf of the dead? If, not at all, are the dead to be raised, why are they even being immersed in their behalf?
interpretations given to this very difficult verse. Other possibilities are: a) "immersed in view of (being raised from) the dead," b) "immersed in view of being dead (to sin)," c) "immersed in view of (having to suffer) death," d) "immersed in view of (someday joining) the dead"].
Stop being deceived: "Wicked friends lead to evil ends."
Not all flesh [is] the same, but [there is] one flesh of human beings, and another flesh of animals, and another flesh of birds, and another of fish,
So it is written: The first man Adam became a living being;
The first man being made out of the earth, was earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven.
But when this [body] that can decay has been clothed with one which cannot decay, and this [body] that can die has been clothed with one which cannot die, then the Scriptural saying will be fulfilled [Isa. 25:8], "Death has been swallowed up [i.e., eliminated] by victory." [Note: The reference here is to the time when believers will experience victory over death by being resurrected or taken directly to be with God].
So, my dear brothers, continue to be firm, incapable of being moved, always letting the cup run over in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the service of the Lord is never thrown away.
Remain alert. Keep standing firm in your faith. Keep on being courageous and strong.
These greetings are being written with my own hand. [See II Thess. 3:17].
[This letter is from] Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God's will, and Timothy, our brother. [It is being sent] to the church of God at Corinth, with all the saints [i.e., God's holy people] who are in the entire province of Achaia [Note: This was the southern province of Greece].
who is comforting us in all our tribulation, for our being able to comfort those in any tribulation through the comfort with which we are comforted ourselves by God;
And if we are troubled, it is for your consolation and salvation, being worked out in the endurance of the same sufferings which we also suffer; if we are comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.
Ye also labouring together on our behalf, by your supplication, that, unto many persons, being due the gift of favour, unto us, through means of many, might thanks be given in our behalf.
And being certain of this, it was my purpose to come to you before, so that you might have a second grace;
This, then, being my purpose, perhaps, after all, with lightness, I dealt with the matter ? or, the things that I purpose, according to the flesh, I purpose, - that, with me, should be the Yea, yea, and the Nay, nay?
For Christ Jesus, the Son of God, the one being preached by us, through me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yes and no, but it was yes in him.
For, if, I, grieve you, who then is he that is to gladden me, - save he who is being grieved through me;
and I wrote to you upon that disagreeable subject, that when I came, I might not receive uneasiness from those from whom I ought to receive comfort, being persuaded that you will all think yourselves interested to promote my satisfaction.
so you must do the opposite, freely forgive and comfort him, to keep him from being overwhelmed by his excessive sadness.
to keep us from being worsted by Satan, for we know what his intentions are.
Now when I came to Troas for the publication of the glad tidings of the Christ, a door also being opened to me in the Lord,
That, of Christ, a grateful odour, are we, unto God, - in them who are being saved, and in them who are being lost:
For we are not like the great number who make use of the word of God for profit: but our words are true, as from God, being said as before God in Christ.
you are my epistle, your conversion being writ in. my heart, known and read by all men:
being made manifest that ye are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in tables that are hearts of flesh.
and if the ministration of the death, in letters, engraved in stones, came in glory, so that the sons of Israel were not able to look stedfastly to the face of Moses, because of the glory of his face -- which was being made useless,
for if that which is being made useless is through glory, much more that which is remaining is in glory.
Such being my hope then, I am quite frank and open ??13 not like Moses, who used to hang a veil over his face to keep the children of Israel from gazing at the last rays of a fading glory.
and are not as Moses, who was putting a vail upon his own face, for the sons of Israel not stedfastly to look to the end of that which is being made useless,
but their minds were hardened, for unto this day the same vail at the reading of the Old Covenant doth remain unwithdrawn -- which in Christ is being made useless --
And, we all, with unveiled face, receiving and reflecting, the glory of the Lord, into the same image, are being transformed, from glory into glory, - even as from a Spirit that is Lord.
Therefore, being engaged in this service and being mindful of the mercy which has been shown us, we are not cowards.
But also if our gospel is hidden, it is hidden to those being lost,
on every side being in tribulation, but not straitened; perplexed, but not in despair;
always being persecuted, but not deserted; always getting a knockdown, but never a knockout;
always being exposed to death as Jesus was, so that in my body the life of Jesus may be clearly shown.
For, evermore, we, the living, unto death are being delivered, for Jesus' sake, in order that, the life also of Jesus, may be made manifest in our mortal flesh:
For all things are for your sakes, that the grace, being multiplied through the many, may cause the thanksgiving to abound unto the glory of God.
Therefore we do not give up.
For in this tent I am groaning, earnestly longing to be under the cover of my heavenly habitation; if so be that being so covered,
If so be that being clothed we shall not be found naked.
And verily, we who are in the tent, do sigh, being weighed down, while yet we are not wishing to unclothe ourselves, but to clothe ourselves over, - in order that, what is mortal, may be swallowed up, by life.
Now God is the One who has prepared us for this very thing [i.e., the receiving of a new body to live in]. He has [also] given us the Holy Spirit as a down payment. [Note: This refers to the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit as being a guarantee that we will receive the balance of our inheritance in the form of a new body].
having courage, then, at all times, and knowing that being at home in the body, we are away from home from the Lord, --
So we have a cheerful confidence, and we anticipate with greater delight being banished from the body and going home to the Lord.
