When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come.
"You must watch out for yourselves. You will be handed over to councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings because of me, as a witness to them.
First the gospel must be preached to all nations.
"But when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be (let the reader understand), then those in Judea must flee to the mountains.
The one on the roof must not come down or go inside to take anything out of his house.
But Peter insisted emphatically, "Even if I must die with you, I will never deny you." And all of them said the same thing.
But he denied it again. A short time later the bystanders again said to Peter, "You must be one of them, because you are also a Galilean."

So then we must not sleep as the rest, but must stay alert and sober.
But since we are of the day, we must stay sober by putting on the breastplate of faith and love and as a helmet our hope for salvation.
For you know yourselves how you must imitate us, because we did not behave without discipline among you,
To do this you must hold firmly to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck in regard to the faith.
