Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.
He only got circumcision as a sign or seal of the righteousness which belonged to his faith as an uncircumcised man. The object of this was to make him the father of all who believe as uncircumcised persons and thus have righteousness counted to them,
And father of circumcision - unto them who are not of circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of the faith, while yet uncircumcised, of our father Abraham.
for if they only who are of the law have right of possession, faith is made useless, and the promise becomes of no effect.
For the Law only brings down God's wrath; where there is no law, there is no violation of it.
For this cause, it is by faith, in order that it may be by way of favour, so that the promise is firm unto all the seed, - not unto that by the law only, but unto that also which is such by the faith of Abraham; who is father of us all, -

For prior to the Law sin was already in the world; only it is not entered in the account against us when no Law exists.
But the Law came to increase and expand [the awareness of] the trespass [by defining and unmasking sin]. But where sin increased, [God’s remarkable, gracious gift of] grace [His unmerited favor] has surpassed it and increased all the more,
Do you not know, brothers -- for I speak to those who are acquainted with the law -- that the law can press its claim over a man only so long as he lives?
for the Spirit's Law-- telling of Life in Christ Jesus--has set me free from the Law that deals only with sin and death.

Only, I have not availed myself of any of these rights, and I am not writing in order to secure any such provision for myself. I would die sooner than let anyone deprive me of this, my source of pride.
Do you not see that in a running competition all take part, but only one gets the reward? So let your minds be fixed on the reward.

Indeed, there must be actual parties among you, for so only will the men of real worth become known.
