What is my conclusion then? I will certainly pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind in action too. I will certainly sing with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind in action too. For if you give thanks with your spirit only,
Otherwise, if you bless God in spirit only, how shall he who is in the position of an ungifted man say the 'Amen' to your giving of thanks, when he does not know what your words mean?
If any person speaks in another language, there should be only two, or at the most three, each in turn, and someone must interpret.
But if there is no interpreter present [at the meeting], the person [i.e., with the ability to speak a language supernaturally] should remain quiet in the assembly. We, though we are Jews by birth and not outcasts of Gentile origin, know that no one is pronounced righteous as the result of obedience to Law, but only through faith in Christ Jesus.
yet we know that a man is not
This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Are you such fools? Did you begin with the spirit only to end now with the flesh?
Brothers, speaking of human terms, though it is only a man's covenant, yet when it has been confirmed, no one makes it void, or adds to it.
(Now the promises were given to Abraham and to his seed. God did not say 'and to seeds,' as if speaking of many, but 'and to your seed,' since He spoke of only one--and this is Christ.)
What, then, you ask, was the use of the Law? It was a later addition, to make men conscious of their wrong-doings, and intended to last only till the coming of that 'offspring' to whom the promise had been made; and it was delivered through angels by a mediator.

But the Scriptures indicate that everything [i.e., everyone] is under the control of sin, so that the promise [of never ending life] could be available [only] to those who have faith in Jesus Christ.
For all of you are children of God through your faith in Christ Jesus [as God's only Son].
They are zealous for you, but not well. But they only desire to shut you out, that you be zealous to them.
But it is good to be zealously affected always in a good thing, and not only when I am present with you.

Only you also, each one [of you], must thus love his own wife as himself, and the wife {must respect} her husband.
not in the way of eye-service [working only when someone is watching you and only] to please men, but as slaves of Christ, doing the will of God from your heart;
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places.
For it is only right for me to think this way about all of you, because you're constantly on my mind. Both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, all of you are partners with me in this privilege.
Then you will be able to approve of [only] what is best and be sincere and without just blame on the day of Christ's [return],
Now I want you to know,
It has even become evident, not only to all the Imperial Guard, but to every one else, that it is for Christ's sake that I am in chains.
