And Joshua and all Israel made as if they were beaten before them, and fled by the way of the wilderness.

And it came to pass, when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness where they had chased them, and when they were all fallen by the edge of the sword, until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned unto Ai, and struck it with the edge of the sword.

And these skins of wine, which we filled, were new; and, behold, they are torn: and these our garments and our shoes have become old by reason of the very long journey.

That the slayer that kills any person accidentally and unintentionally may flee there: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its pasture lands, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Hammothdor with its pasture lands, and Kartan with its pasture lands; three cities.

And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its pasture lands, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Mahanaim with its pasture lands,

So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, who were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities.

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, which they had possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, a great altar to see.

But that you must turn away this day from following the LORD? and it will be, seeing you rebel today against the LORD, that tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.

And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will you plead for Baal? will you save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death while it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one has cast down his altar.
