So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.

Now these are the kings of the land, which the children of Israel smote, and possessed their land on the other side Jordan toward the rising of the sun, from the river Arnon unto mount Hermon, and all the plain on the east:

King Sihon of the Amorites who lived in Heshbon and ruled from Aroer (on the edge of the Arnon Valley) -- including the city in the middle of the valley and half of Gilead -- all the way to the Jabbok Valley bordering Ammonite territory.

And reigned in mount Hermon, and in Salcah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.

Moses the servant of Jehovah, and the sons of Israel, smote them: and Moses the servant of Jehovah will give it a possession to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh.

And these the kings of the land which Joshua smote, and the sons of Israel, on the other side Jordan to the sea, from lord Gad in the plain of Lebanon, and even to the smooth mountain going up to Seir; and Joshua will give it to the tribes of Israel an inheritance, according to their divisions;

The king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is near Beth-el, one;

The king of Mekkedah, one; The king of Beth-El, one;

Now Joshua was old and well stricken in years; and Jehovah said unto him, Thou art old and well stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and all Geshuri,

from the Shihor [waterway] which is east of Egypt [at the southern end of Canaan], northward to the border of Ekron (all of it regarded as Canaanite); the five rulers of the Philistines: the Gazite, Ashdodite, the Ashkelonite, the Gittite, the Ekronite; and the Avvite

From the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that is beside the Sidonians, unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites:

And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baalgad under mount Hermon unto the entering into Hamath.

All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephothmaim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

From Aroer, that is upon the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon;

And all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon;

And Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salcah;

All the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants: for these did Moses smite, and cast them out.

And Moses will give to the tribe of the sons of Reuben according to their families.

And their coast was from Aroer, that is on the bank of the river Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the river, and all the plain by Medeba;

Heshbon, and all her cities that are in the plain; Dibon, and Bamothbaal, and Bethbaalmeon,

And all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses smote with the princes of Midian, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, which were dukes of Sihon, dwelling in the country.

And Moses will give to the tribe of Gad, to the sons of Gad according to their families.

And their coast was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that is before Rabbah;

And Moses will give to the half of the tribe of Manasseh; and it shall be to half of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh, according to their families.

And their coast was from Mahanaim, all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair, which are in Bashan, threescore cities:

And the sons of Judah will come near to Joshua in Gilgal: and Caleb, son of Jephunneh will say to him, Thou knewest the word which Jehovah spake to Moses the man of God on account of me and on account of thee in Kadesh-Barnea.

The son of forty years was I in Moses the servant of Jehovah sending me from Kadesh-Barnea to spy the land; and I will turn back word to him as with my heart

My brothers, however, who went up with me, made the heart of the people like water: but I was true to the Lord with all my heart.

And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land that your foot has trodden on will be an inheritance to you and your sons forever, because you remained true to Yahweh my God.'

And now, behold, the LORD hath kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spake this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

And still, I am as strong today as I was when Moses sent me out: as my strength was then, so is it now, for war and for all the business of life.

Now therefore give me this mountain, whereof the LORD spake in that day; for thou heardest in that day how the Anakims were there, and that the cities were great and fenced: if so be the LORD will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the LORD said.

And Joshua will bless him and will give Hebron to Caleb, son of Jephunneh, for inheritance.

So Hebron became the heritage of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, to this day, because with all his heart he was true to the Lord, the God of Israel.

Hebron used to be known as Kiriath-arba, after the greatest man among the Anakim. After all of this, the land enjoyed rest from war.

Joshua said, "Now the allotment for the tribe of the descendants of Judah, allocated according to their families, will extend to the border of Edom, southward to the wilderness of Zin until land's end,

{it passes on} to Azmon, continues by the wadi of Egypt, and {it ends} at the sea. This will be your southern border.

And then went up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, turning toward Gilgal that lieth before the going up to Adummim, which is of the south side of the River. And then went along to the water of Enshemesh, and ended at the well of Rogel.

And the west border was to the Great Sea, and the coast. This is the border of the sons of Judah all around according to their families.

And he will go up from thence to the inhabitants of Debir: and the name of Debir before, the City of the Book.

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kirjathsepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.

And Othniel, son of Kenaz will take it, the brother of Caleb, and he will give to him Achsah his daughter for a wife.

And it will be in her going forth she will stimulate him to ask from her father a field: and she will descend from the ass, and Caleb will say to her, What to thee?

And she will say, Thou wilt give to me a blessing; for a south land thou gavest me, and give to me springs of water: and he will give to her the springs above and the springs beneath.

And the cities of the tribe of the children of Judah in all quarters, toward the coasts of Edom southward, were: Kabzeel, Eder, and Jagur;

And Hazor-Shual and the Well of the Oath, and Bizjothjah,

And Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages:

Dilan, Mizpeh, Jokthe-el,

From Ekron even unto the sea, all that lay near Ashdod, with their villages:

And the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Judah will not be able to drive them out: and the Jebusites dwelt with the sons of Judah in Jerusalem even to this day.

And the lot came out for the children of Joseph from the Jordan at Jericho, at the waters of Jericho on the east, even the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill-country to Beth-el;

and it went out from Beth-el to Luz, and passed along unto the border of the Archites to Ataroth;

And the sons of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, will inherit.

And the bound of the sons of Ephraim will be according to their families; and the bound of their inheritance will be from the sunrisings, Ataroth Addar, even to the House of Horon above.

And the separate cities for the children of Ephraim were among the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.

And they drove not out the Canaanite dwelling in Gezer: and the Canaanite dwelt in the midst of Ephraim even to this day, and he will be serving for tribute.

And there will be a bound to the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the first-born of Joseph: to Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead; for he was a man of war, and there will be to him Gilead and Bashan.

And there will be to the sons of Manasseh those remaining according to their families: to the sons of Abiezer, and to the sons of Helek, and to the sons of Asriel, and to the sons of Shechem, and to the sons of Hepher, and to the sons of Shemida: these the sons of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the males according to their families.

And they will come near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua son of Nun, and before the chiefs, saying, Jehovah commanded Moses to give to us an inheritance in the midst of our brethren. And he will give to them according to the mouth of Jehovah an inheritance in the midst of the brethren of their father.

And there will fall ten portions of Manasseh, besides from the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is from beyond Jordan;

And the bound of Manasseh will be from Asher to Michmethah, which is upon the face of Shechem; and the bound went to the right hand to the inhabitants of the Fountain of Tappuah.

South, to Ephraim, and north, to Manasseh, and the sea will be his bound; and in Asher they will strike together from the north, and in Issachar from the sunrisings.

Within Issachar's and Asher's territory Manasseh was assigned Beth Shean, Ibleam, the residents of Dor, En Dor, the residents of Taanach, the residents of Megiddo, the three of Napheth, and the towns surrounding all these cities.

And the sons of Manasseh will not be able to dispossess these cities; and the Canaanite will dwell in that land.

And it will be when the sons of Israel were strong and they will give the Canaanite for tribute; and driving out, they drove him not out

At that time, the descendants of Joseph asked Joshua, "Why did you give us only one allotment and portion for an inheritance, since we're numerous and the LORD has blessed us all along?"

And Joshua will say to them, If thou much people go up for thyself to the forest, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzite and of the Rephaims, if mount Ephraim was narrow to thee.

And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.

And Joshua said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasseh, "You are many people and have great power; you will not have one allotment [only];

[the] hill country will be yours. Even though it [is] a forest, you will clear it, and it will be yours [to] its farthest borders. You will drive out the Canaanites, even though they have iron chariots and [are] strong."

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel assembled together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of the congregation there. And the land was subdued before them.

And there will remain among the sons of Israel to whom they distributed not their inheritance, seven tribes.

And Joshua said to the children of Israel, How long will ye shew yourselves slack to go to take possession of the land which Jehovah the God of your fathers hath given you?

Give out from among you three men for each tribe: and I will send them, and they shall rise, and go through the land, and describe it according to the inheritance of them; and they shall come again to me.

They will divide it among themselves into seven portions; {Judah will maintain its border} from [the] south, and {the house of Joseph will maintain its border} from [the] north.

And ye shall describe the land into seven portions, and bring the description hither to me; and I will cast lots for you here before Jehovah our God.

But the Levites will not have an allotted portion among you, for their inheritance is to serve the Lord. Gad, Reuben, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have already received their allotted land east of the Jordan which Moses the Lord's servant assigned them."

And the men arose, and went: and Joshua charged them that went to describe the land, saying, Go and walk through the land, and describe it, and come again to me; and I will cast lots for you here before Jehovah in Shiloh.

And the men will go and will pass over In the land, and will write it by cities into seven parts, upon a book; and they will come to Joshua to the camp of Shiloh.

And Joshua will cast the lot to them in Shiloh before Jehovah: and Joshua will there divide the land to the sons of Israel according to their divisions.

And the lot of the tribe of Benjamin will come up according to their families: and the bound of their lot will come forth between the sons of Judah and between the sons of Joseph.

And the bound will be to them to the north side from Jordan; and the bound went up to the side of Jericho from the north, and went up into the mountain to the sea; and its goings-out were from the desert of the House of Vanity.

And the border passed along from thence to Luz, to the side of Luz (the same is Beth-el), southward; and the border went down to Ataroth-addar, by the mountain that lieth on the south of Beth-horon the nether.

And the south quarter was from the end of Kirjathjearim, and the border went out on the west, and went out to the well of waters of Nephtoah:

and cometh down to the edge of the hill that lieth before the valley of the son of Hinnom which is in the valley of Rephaim northward, and descendeth through the valley of Hinnom unto the side of Jebusi southward and goeth down to the well of Rogel.

And the limit of the east part is the Jordan. This is the heritage of the children of Benjamin, marked out for their families by these limits on all sides.

and Beth-arabah, and Zemaraim, and Beth-el,

And the second lot came forth to Simeon, to the tribe of the sons of Simeon, according to their families: and their inheritance will be in the midst of the inheritance of the sons of Judah.

And there will be to them in their inheritance the Well of the Oath, and the oath, and Moladah,

And all the villages that were round about these cities to Baalathbeer, Ramath of the south. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families.

Out of the portion of the sons of Judah was the inheritance of the sons of Simeon: for the portion of the sons of Judah was great above theirs: and the sons of Simeon will inherit in the midst of their inheritance.

And the third lot will come up to the sons of Zebulon, according to their families: and the bound of their inheritance will be even to Sarid:

and the border turned about it on the north to Hannathon; and the goings out thereof were at the valley of Iphtah-el;

Their territory included Kattah, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem; in all they had twelve cities and their towns.

And their bound will be Jezreel and Chesulloth, and Shunem,

And their bound will be Helkath and Hali, and Beten and Achsaph,

and it turned toward the sunrising to Beth-dagon, and reached to Zebulun, and to the valley of Iphtah-el northward to Beth-emek and Neiel; and it went out to Cabul on the left hand,

Umah, Aphek, and Rehob. In all they had twenty-two cities and their towns.
