Jesus saith to him, 'If him I will to remain till I come, what -- to thee? be thou following me.' This word, therefore, went forth to the brethren that that disciple doth not die,
yet Jesus did not say to him, that he doth not die, but, 'If him I will to remain till I come, what -- to thee?'
[Dear] Theophilus, in my former letter [i.e., the Gospel of Luke] I wrote to you concerning what all Jesus did and taught since the beginning [of His ministry],
While he was meeting with them, he ordered them, "Don't leave Jerusalem. Instead, wait for what the Father has promised, about which you heard me speak,
He answered them, "It isn't for you to know what times or periods the Father has fixed by his own authority.
But, you apostles will receive power when the Holy Spirit descends on you and [then] you will become My witnesses [i.e., to tell what you know] in Jerusalem, in [the countries of] Judea and Samaria, and [even] to the distant regions of the earth."
who also said, 'Men, Galileans, why do ye stand gazing into the heaven? this Jesus who was received up from you into the heaven, shall so come in what manner ye saw him going on to the heaven.'
Then there appeared tongues of what seemed to be flame, separating, so that one settled on each of them;
They were utterly amazed, and kept asking in astonishment: "What! Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans?
we all hear these men telling in our own tongue what great things God has done."
All of them continued to be stunned and puzzled, and they kept asking one another, "What can this mean?"
Then Peter, with the Eleven, stood up and addresses them in a loud voice. "Men of Judea and dwellers in Jerusalem, have no doubt about this matter, but listen to what I say.
In spite of what you think, these men are not drunk, for it is only nine o'clock in the morning.
Rather, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:
ye men of Israel attend to what I say; Jesus of Nazareth was a man whom God distinguished among you, by miracles, by prodigies, and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as you your selves also know:
You have made known to me what life is all about. You will make me completely happy by your very presence.'
He has been exalted to the right hand of God, has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit, and has caused you to experience what you are seeing and hearing.
When the crowd that had gathered heard this, they were pierced to the heart. They asked Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?"
So those who accepted what he said were baptized; about three thousand souls were brought in, that day.
The believers continued to devote themselves to what the apostles were teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to times of prayer.
Now a man who had been crippled from birth was being carried in. Every day people would lay him at what was called the Beautiful Gate so that he could beg from those who were going into the Temple.
But Peter said, "No silver or gold have I, but what I do have I will give you. In the name of Jesus of Nazareth start walking."
and recognized him as the very man who used to sit at The Beautiful Gate of the temple to beg, they were completely astounded and bewildered at what occurred to him.
While he was still clinging to Peter and John, all the people in utter amazement crowded around them in what was called Solomon's portico.
And when Peter saw [the crowd assembling] he gave this explanation: "Men of Israel, why are you so shocked at [what happened to] this man? And why are you gazing at us, as though it were by our power or godly qualities that we caused him to walk?
"And yet, I know, brothers, that you did not realize what you were doing, any more than your leaders did.
But in this way God fulfilled what He by the lips of all the prophets foretold, that the Christ should suffer.
But many of those who had heard what they said believed it, and their number grew to be about five thousand.
They had the men stand before them and repeatedly inquired of them, "By what sort of power and authority have you done this?"
If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole;
by what means he is cured, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, but whom God hath raised from the dead, even by Him doth this man stand here before you whole.
yet seeing the man who was cured standing with them, they could not tell what to reply.
and repeated, "What shall we do with these men? For it is evident to everybody living in Jerusalem that an unmistakable wonder-work has been done by them; and we cannot deny it.
for we cannot keep from telling what we have seen and heard."
So, after further threatening them, they turned them loose, because they could not find any way to punish them, on account of the people, because they all continued to praise God for what had taken place,
When they were turned loose, the apostles went back to their companions and told them what the high priests and elders had said to them.
Who, by our father, through means of the Holy Spirit, even by the mouth of David thy servant, said - Unto what end did nations rage, and, peoples, busy themselves with empty things?
to do what thy hand and counsel before appointed to be done.
And the heart and soul of the multitude of those that had believed were one, and not one said that anything of what he possessed was his own, but all things were common to them;
Neither was there any indigent person among them; for as many as were proprietors of lands or houses, sold them and brought the prices of what were sold,
In this way Joseph, whom the apostles called Barnabas ("Son of Encouragement" is what it means), who was a native Cyprus,
But Peter said, "Ananias, for what [reason] has Satan filled your heart, [that] you lied to the Holy Spirit and kept back for yourself [some] of the proceeds of the piece of land?
As long as it remained unsold, wasn't it your own? And after it was sold, wasn't the money at your disposal? So how could you have thought of doing what you did? You didn't lie only to men, but also to God!"
About three hours later, his wife came in, without having learned what had taken place.
And Peter said to her, For what was it agreed by you to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them having interred thy husband at the door, and they shall carry thee out.
When the commander of the Temple guards and the high priests heard these words, they were utterly at a loss as to what could have happened to them.
"We strictly commanded you not to teach in this name [i.e., the name of Jesus] and look [what you have done]; you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you intend to hold us responsible for this man's [i.e., Jesus'] death."
and we are his witnesses of what we declare; and so is the holy Spirit, whom God hath given to them that obey Him.
And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
the twelve therefore assembled all the disciples, and said, it is not fit that we should leave the word of God, to mind what relates to your meals.
And what was said pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolaus a proselyte of Antioch,
But some men from what was called the Synagogue of the Freedmen, including both
And, upon that, Stephen spoke as follows: "Brothers and Fathers, hear what I have to say. God, who manifests himself in the Glory, appeared to our ancestor Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, and before he settled in Haran, and said to him--
And he did not give him an inheritance in it, not even what his foot could stand on; and promised to give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when he had no child.
This is what God promised: 'His descendants will be strangers living in a foreign land, and its people will enslave and oppress them for four hundred years.'
now while the time was approaching to accomplish what God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew numerous in Egypt,
What, wilt thou kill me, as thou didst the Egyptian yesterday?'
When Moses saw it he wondered at the sight, and when he went up to see what it was, the voice of the Lord said,
and they said to Aaron, 'Make us gods to march in front of us, for as for this Moses, who brought us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him!'
"At that time they even made a calf to be their idol, offered a sacrifice to it, and delighted in what they had made with their hands.
Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?
And he kneeled down and cried with a loud voice, "Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. For they know not what they do." And when he had thus spoken he fell asleep.
As the crowds continued to listen to his message and continued to see his wonder-works which he was performing, with one mind they became interested in what was said by Philip.
Everybody, high and low, kept running after him, saying, "He is certainly what is known as the Great Power of God!"
But Peter said, May your money come to destruction with you, because you had the idea that what is freely given by God may be got for a price.
You have no part or share in what we're saying, because your heart isn't right with God.
But Simon replied, "You pray to the Lord for me so that nothing of what you have said may happen to me."
Then Philip ran up and listened to him reading the prophet Isaiah, and he asked, "Do you understand what you are reading?"
As they continued down the road, they came to some water, and the official said, "Look! here is some water! What is there to keep me from being baptized?"
And he said, "What art thou, Lord?" And the Lord said, "I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it shall be hard for thee to kick against the prick."
And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many people about this man, especially how much suffering and evil he has brought on Your saints (God’s people) at Jerusalem;
For I will make clear to him what troubles he will have to undergo for me.
Instantly there dropped from his eyes what seemed to be scales, and he could see once more. Upon this he rose and received baptism;
Then all who lived at Lydda and the plain of Sharon saw [what had happened to] him, and they turned to the Lord.
What happened became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.
Now at Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a colonel in what was known as the Italian regiment,
And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
The sky had opened to his view, and what seemed to be an enormous sail was descending, being let down to the earth by ropes at the four corners.
And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
The men replied, "Cornelius, a centurion and an upright and God-fearing man who is respected by the whole Jewish nation, was instructed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his home to hear what you have to say."
Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
"So I sent for you without delay, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God, to listen to what the Lord has commanded you to speak."
Indeed, whoever fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him in any nation.
this was what he communicated to the children of Israel, proclaiming salvation by Jesus Christ, who is the Lord of all mankind.
You know what happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached.
As for what he did in the land of the Jews and of Jerusalem, we can testify to that. They slew him by hanging him on a gibbet,
While Peter was still speaking, the holy Spirit fell upon all who listened to what he said.
Then Peter began to explain to them point by point what had happened. He said,
"I was in the city of Joppa, praying, and while in a trance I saw a vision; a certain vessel descending, what seemed to be an enormous sail let down to me,
But the voice answered me again from heaven, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.
Then I remembered what the Lord had said: "John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'
Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?
And the news about [what was being done by] these people reached the church in Jerusalem, so that they sent Barnabas to Antioch [in Syria].
When he arrived, he rejoiced to see what the grace of God had done, and with hearty determination he kept encouraging all of them to remain faithful to the Lord,
So, they sent [what was donated] to the elders [of the Judean churches] by Barnabas and Saul.
