And there were certain men who were defiled by the dead body of a man, so that they could not prepare the Passover on that day. And they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day.

439

Speak to the sons of Israel and command them that they make fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribbon of blue.

440

His offering was one silver dish, its weight a hundred thirty shekels according to the sanctuary shekel; one silver basin of seventy shekels according to the sanctuary shekel; both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil for a food offering;

441

Let the sons of Israel also keep the Passover at its appointed time.

442

And the sons of Israel pulled up stakes and pitched in the plains of Moab on this side Jordan by Jericho.

443

Whether it was two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud stayed upon the tabernacle, remaining on it, the sons of Israel stayed in their tents and did not journey. But when it was taken up, they pulled up stakes.

444

And when the tabernacle sets forth, the Levites shall take it down. And when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up. And the stranger who comes near shall die.

445

His offering was one silver dish, its weight a hundred thirty shekels according to the sanctuary shekel; one silver basin of seventy shekels according to the sanctuary shekel; both of them full of fine flour mixed with oil for a food offering;

446

But the tithes of the sons of Israel, which they offer as a heave offering to Jehovah, I have given to the Levites to inherit. Therefore I have said to them, Among the sons of Israel they shall have no inheritance.

447

In the fourteenth day of this month, between the evenings, you shall keep it in its appointed time. You shall keep it according to all its statutes, and according to all the ceremonies of it.

448

you shall certainly not come into the land which I swore to make you live in, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

449

And now kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that has known man by lying with him.

450

Your dead bodies shall fall in this wilderness, and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, who have murmured against Me,

451

But My servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and has followed Me fully, I will bring him into the land into which he went. And his seed shall possess it.

452

And the tribe of Zebulun; the ruler of the sons of Zebulun shall be Eliab the son of Helon.

453

one male of the goats for a sin offering;

454

And the Angel of Jehovah went further and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.

455

And Jehovah spoke to Moses saying,

457

And those who pitch on the east side toward the rising of the sun shall be those of the banner of the camp of Judah, throughout their armies. And Nahshon the son of Amminadab shall be captain of the sons of Judah.

458

And they prepared the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month between the evenings, in the wilderness of Sinai. According to all that Jehovah commanded Moses, so all the sons of Israel did.

459

You shall offer them besides the continual burnt offering and its food offering and their drink offerings. They shall be to you without blemish.

460

And Jehovah spoke to Moses saying,

461

And Balak brought Balaam to the top of Peor that looks toward Jeshimon.

462

And the people stood up all that day and all night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails. And he that gathered least gathered ten homers. And they spread them out for themselves all around the camp.

463

And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

464

And Jehovah spoke to Moses saying,

465

And God's anger was kindled because he went. And the Angel of Jehovah stood in the way as an enemy against him. And he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants with him.

466

And Moses said to them, You wait, and I will hear what Jehovah will command about you.

467

And those men said to him, We are defiled by the dead body of a man. Why are we kept back that we may not offer an offering of Jehovah in its appointed time among the sons of Israel?

468

And the Angel of Jehovah said to him, Why have you beaten your ass these three times? Behold! I went out to be an enemy to you, because your way is perverse before Me.

469

And Jehovah spoke to Moses saying,

470

Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor.

471

And you shall speak to the Levites, and you shall say to them, When you take tithes from the sons of Israel, which I have given you from them for your inheritance, then you shall offer up a heave offering of it for Jehovah, a tenth of the tithe.

472

Then Jehovah opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the Angel of Jehovah standing in the way, and His sword drawn in His hand. And he bowed down his head, and fell on his face.

473

And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron saying,

474

And Jehovah said to Moses, Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole. And it shall be when everyone that is bitten, when he looks upon it, he shall live.

475

And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, of the giants. And we were in our own sight like grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

476

And Moses spoke to the sons of Israel to prepare the Passover.

477

Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of Jehovah, Waheb in Suphah, and in the torrents of Arnon,

478

And with you there shall be a man of every tribe, each one head of the house of his fathers.

479

And Moses made a serpent of bronze, and put it upon a pole. And it happened that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked upon the serpent of brass, he lived.

480

Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh! He has given his sons to be runaways, and his daughters to go into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites.

481

And they told him and said, We came to the land where you sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey. And this is the fruit of it.

482

And the earth opened her mouth and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men who were for Korah, and all their goods.

483

And Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people. And many people of Israel died.

484

And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle. And when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, behold, the place was a place for cattle.

485

And he spoke to the congregation, saying, I pray you, get away from the tents of these wicked men. And touch nothing of theirs lest you be destroyed in all their sins.

486

Speak to the sons of Israel: When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to commit a trespass against Jehovah, and that person is guilty,

487

And your sons shall feed in the wilderness forty years and bear your fornications, until your dead bodies have wasted in the wilderness.

488

For Jehovah had spoken to Moses saying,

489

And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan. And Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to the battle at Edrei.

491

And it happened, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, the ground under them split apart.

492

On the south side shall be the standard of the camp of Reuben, according to their armies; the ruler of the sons of Reuben shall be Elizur the son of Shedeur.

493

And they returned from spying out the land after forty days.

494

But the Levites, according to the tribe of their fathers, were not numbered among them.

495

And Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his ass, and went with the rulers of Moab.

496

And the ass saw Me and turned from Me these three times. Unless she had turned from Me, surely now I also would have killed you and saved her alive.

497

And Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters. And the names of the daughters of Zelophehad: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah;

498

How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmurs against Me? I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel which they murmur against Me.

499

And Jehovah said to Moses, Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and the officers over them. And bring them to the tabernacle of the congregation so that they may stand there with you.

500

According to the number of the days in which you searched the land, forty days, each day for a year you shall bear your iniquities, forty years; and you shall know My alienation.

501

Then the sons of Israel came, the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month. And the people stayed in Kadesh. And Miriam died there and was buried there.

502

And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, So says your brother Israel, You know all the trouble that has happened to us,

503

those were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand, four hundred.

504

And Balaam said to the ass, Because you have mocked me. I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would kill you.

505

And Moses did as Jehovah commanded. And they went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

506

Only you shall not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the sons of Israel.

507

And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,

508

(Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites lived in the valley.) Tomorrow turn and go into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.

509

And Balaam said to Balak, Build seven altars here for me, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams here for me.

510

They and all that they had went down alive into Sheol, and the earth closed upon them. And they perished from among the congregation.

511

And He said, Hear now My words. If there is a prophet among you, I Jehovah will make Myself known to him in a vision, and will speak to him in a dream.

512

And all those that were numbered of the sons of Israel, by their fathers' house, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel:

513

And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched to the sons of Israel, saying, The land through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up those who live in it. And all the people whom we saw in it were men of stature.

514

And the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh, the son of Joseph came. And these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.

515

And in the seventh month, on the first of the month, you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no laboring work. It is a day of blowing the trumpets to you.

516

Jehovah is long-suffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons to the third and fourth generation.

517

And the people spoke against God and against Moses, Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, neither is there any water. And our soul hates this light bread.

518

And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

519

of Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon;

520

Surely, there is no spell against Jacob, nor any fortune-telling against Israel. According to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What God has worked!

521

And Jehovah said to Moses, How long will this people provoke Me? And how long will it be before they believe Me, for all the signs which I have shown among them?

522

If these men die the common death of all men, or if they are visited according to the examination of all men, Jehovah has not sent me.

523

All that were numbered of the camp of Judah were a hundred and eighty-six thousand and four hundred, by their armies. They shall set forth first.

524

Because he has despised the Word of Jehovah and has broken His commandment, that soul shall be utterly cut off. His iniquity shall be upon him.

525

And strip Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son. And Aaron shall be gathered to his people, and shall die there.

526

So they got away from the tent of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, on every side. And Dathan and Abiram came out and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their infants.

And his army, and those numbered of them were fifty-seven thousand and four hundred.

534

However, the people that dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are walled, very great. And also we saw the children of Anak there.

535

Say to them, As I live, says Jehovah, as you have spoken in My ears, so I will do to you.

536

And Moses said, By this you shall know that Jehovah has sent me to do all these works, and that not from my own heart.

549

and Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah,

555

And they gathered themselves against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, You take too much upon you, since all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and Jehovah is among them. Why then do you lift yourselves up above the congregation of Jehovah?

556

And behold! One of the sons of Israel came and brought to his brothers a woman of Midian, before the eyes of Moses, and before all the congregation of the sons of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

557

And the persons were sixteen thousand, of which Jehovah's tax was thirty-two persons.

558

So you shall not defile the land in which you are. For blood defiles the land. And the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed in it, except by the blood of him that shed it.

559

The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south, and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains. And the Canaanites dwell by the sea and by the coast of Jordan.
