He did this by predestining us to adoption as his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the pleasure of his will --
to the praise of the glory of His grace, in which He did make us accepted in the beloved,
He did this when he revealed to us the secret of his will, according to his good pleasure that he set forth in Christ,
[He did this] to fulfill His plan at the proper time, by bringing together everything [in the universe] under Christ's headship --- things both in heaven and on earth.
in whom also we did obtain an inheritance, being foreordained according to the purpose of Him who the all things is working according to the counsel of His will,
for our being to the praise of His glory, even those who did first hope in the Christ,
Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,
and all things He did put under his feet, and did give him -- head over all things to the assembly,
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
in which once ye did walk according to the age of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience,
among whom also we all did walk once in the desires of our flesh, doing the wishes of the flesh and of the thoughts, and were by nature children of wrath -- as also the others,
but God who is rich in mercy, on account of his great love with which he loved us,??5 even when we were dead in sins he made us alive with Christ,??y grace are you saved,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
and did raise us up together, and did seat us together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
[and He did this] so that in the ages to come He might [clearly] show the immeasurable and unsurpassed riches of His grace in [His] kindness toward us in Christ Jesus [by providing for our redemption].
for of Him we are workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God did before prepare, that in them we may walk.
for he is our peace, who did make both one, and the middle wall of the enclosure did break down,
He made of no effect the law consisting of commands and expressed in regulations, so that He might create
He did this so that He might reconcile both to God in one body
and having come, he did proclaim good news -- peace to you -- the far-off and the nigh,
if, indeed, ye did hear of the dispensation of the grace of God that was given to me in regard to you,
and to cause all to see what is the fellowship of the secret that hath been hid from the ages in God, who the all things did create by Jesus Christ,
He did this so that now, through the church, the wisdom of God in all its variety might be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realm
who, having ceased to feel, themselves did give up to the lasciviousness, for the working of all uncleanness in greediness;
But ye did not so learn Christ;
if so be ye did hear him, and in him were taught, as truth is in Jesus;
and become one to another kind, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, according as also God in Christ did forgive you.
and walk in love, as also the Christ did love us, and did give himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for an odour of a sweet smell,
Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.
The husbands! love your own wives, as also the Christ did love the assembly, and did give himself for it,
He did this to present the church to Himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless.
for no one ever his own flesh did hate, but doth nourish and cherish it, as also the Lord -- the assembly,
knowing that whatever good deed a person does, he will be rewarded for it from the Lord, whether he is a slave or a free person.
whom I did send unto you for this very thing, that ye might know the things concerning us, and that he might comfort your hearts.
having been confident of this very thing, that He who did begin in you a good work, will perform it till a day of Jesus Christ,
You should think about things the way Christ Jesus did.
who, subsisting in the form of God, did not esteem it an object of rapine to be on an equality with God;
but did empty himself, the form of a servant having taken, in the likeness of men having been made,
wherefore, also, God did highly exalt him, and gave to him a name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus both angels and men, the living and the dead, should pay their adorations,
For it is God which worketh in you both the will and also the deed, even of good will.
holding forth the word of life; that I may have whereof to glory in the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain neither labor in vain.
and the proof of him ye know, that as a child serveth a father, with me he did serve in regard to the good news;
for he also ailed nigh to death, but God did deal kindly with him, and not with him only, but also with me, that sorrow upon sorrow I might not have.
The more eagerly, therefore, I did send him, that having seen him again ye may rejoice, and I may be the less sorrowful;
because it was for the sake of Christ's work that he came so near death, hazarding, as he did, his very life in endeavouring to make good any deficiency that there might be in your gifts to me.
Watch out for the "dogs!" [Note: "Dogs" were viewed with disgust by the ancient Jews (Deut. 23:18; II Kings 8:13; Rev. 22:15), so the term is used here derogatorily for Jewish Christians who were trying to impose on the church the requirements of the law of Moses]. Watch out for the evil workers! Watch out for those who mutilate the body meaninglessly! [Note: Paul here alludes, in a derogatory wordplay, to the Jewish practice of circumcision].
That I may have knowledge of him, and of the power of his coming back from the dead, and a part with him in his pains, becoming like him in his death;
If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
Not that I did already obtain, or have been already perfected; but I pursue, if also I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by the Christ Jesus;
and I ask also thee, genuine yoke-fellow, be assisting those women who in the good news did strive along with me, with Clement also, and the others, my fellow-workers, whose names are in the book of life.
the things that also ye did learn, and receive, and hear, and saw in me, those do, and the God of the peace shall be with you.
But I rejoice in the Lord greatly, that now at length ye have revived your thought for me; wherein ye did indeed take thought, but ye lacked opportunity.
not that in respect of want I say it, for I did learn in the things in which I am -- to be content;

Giving thanks to the Father who did make us meet for the participation of the inheritance of the saints in the light,
who did rescue us out of the authority of the darkness, and did translate us into the reign of the Son of His love,
He himself existed before anything else did, and he holds all things together.
And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
Therefore if you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, sharing in His resurrection from the dead], keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Make dead, therefore, your members that are on the earth - as regardeth fornication, impurity, passion, base coveting, and greed, the which, is idolatry, -
in which also ye -- ye did walk once, when ye lived in them;
and having put on the new, which is renewed in regard to knowledge, after the image of Him who did create him;
forbearing one another, and forgiving each other, if any one with any one may have a quarrel, as also the Christ did forgive you -- so also ye;
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily as though ye did it to the Lord, and not unto men,
and he who is doing unrighteously shall receive what he did unrighteously, and there is no acceptance of persons.
whom I did send unto you for this very thing, that he might know the things concerning you, and might comfort your hearts,
Salute you doth Aristarchus, my fellow-captive, and Marcus, the nephew of Barnabas, (concerning whom ye did receive commands -- if he may come unto you receive him,)
and Jesus who is called Justus, who are of the circumcision: these only are fellow-workers for the reign of God who did become a comfort to me.

And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.
For yourselves have known, brethren, our entrance in unto you, that it did not become vain,
For our appeal did not originate from a delusion or an impure motive; it was not made in fraud;
for at no time did we come with speech of flattery, (as ye have known,) nor in a pretext for covetousness, (God is witness!)
nor did we seek glory and honor from people, neither from you nor from anyone else, though as apostles of Christ we had the power to assert our authority.
Our affection therefore to you being so great, we were as ready to give our lives for you, as we were to communicate the divine gospel to you, so much did you engage our love.
for ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail, for, night and day working not to be a burden upon any of you, we did preach to you the good news of God;
Here is another reason why we constantly give thanks to God: When you received God's word, which you heard from us, you did not accept it as the word of humans but for what it really is the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.
For ye, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judaea in Christ Jesus: for ye also suffered the same things of your own countrymen, even as they did of the Jews;
who did both put to death the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and did persecute us, and God they are not pleasing, and to all men are contrary,
