when the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the blood of Jerusalem from her midst by a spirit of judgment and by a spirit of burning.

The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

The nations roar like the rushing of many waters, but the LORD will rebuke them, and they will run far away, chased like chaff blown down from the mountains or like thick dust that rolls along, blown along by a wind storm.

At that time tribute will be brought to the Lord who commands armies, by a people that are tall and smooth-skinned, a people that are feared far and wide, a nation strong and victorious, whose land rivers divide. The tribute will be brought to the place where the Lord who commands armies has chosen to reside, on Mount Zion.

I will drive him, like a peg, into a firm place. He will be a throne of honor for his father’s house.

who cause a person to be indicted by a word, and lay a snare for the arbiter in the gate, and who deprive the innocent of justice with false testimony.

For to you the protection of Pharaoh shall be a shame, and the trust in the shadow of Egypt a confusion.

They were all ashamed of a people that could not profit them, nor be an help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.


Now, go, write it on a tablet before them
And inscribe it on a scroll,
So that it may serve in the time to come
As a witness [against them] forevermore.

And he will let it be broken as a potter's vessel is broken: it will be smashed to bits without mercy; so that there will not be a bit in which one may take fire from the fireplace, or water from the spring.

Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

And he will flee from the sword [of God],
And his young men will become forced labor.

And a man shall be as an hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

Then in the waste land there will be an upright rule, and righteousness will have its place in the fertile field.

And the peoples shall be as the burnings of lime, as thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire.

Now hearken to, ye that are far off, how I do with them; and consider my glory, ye that be at hand.

this is the one who will live on the heights; his refuge will be a mountain fortress. His food will be supplied, and his water will be guaranteed.

Night and day it will burn; its smoke will ascend continually. Generation after generation it will be a wasteland and no one will ever pass through it again.
