Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore prudent as serpents, and harmless as doves. But be on your guard against men: for they will deliver you up to the sanhedrim, and scourge you in their synagogues. And ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the heathen.

Now all these things are the beginning of the travailing pangs. Then shall they deliver you up to affliction, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and hate one another. read more.

For I reckon that the sufferings of the present moment are not worthy to be placed against the future glory that shall be revealed to us.

And laying on them many stripes, cast them into prison, commanding the jailor to keep them in safe custody: who, receiving such an injunction, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
