At length Jesus stopped and desired them to bring the man to Him; and when he had come close to Him He asked him,

And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

a man named Zacchaeus appeared. He was a leading tax collector, and a rich one at that!

And running before, he went up on a sycamore that he might see him; for he was to pass by it.

And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

As the people were listening to this, Jesus went on to tell them a parable. He did so because he was near Jerusalem, and because they thought that the Kingdom of God was going to be proclaimed at once.

a nobleman, said he, was going to travel to a foreign country, in order to have his kingdom confirm'd to him at his return.

And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

“And another came and said, ‘Master, here is your mina. I have kept it hidden away in a cloth

They said to him, 'He has two hundred, sir!'??26 'I tell you, the man who has will have more given him, and from the man who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away!

And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.

And while they were untying the colt the owners called out, "Why are you untying the colt?"

And they led it to Jesus; and having cast their own garments on the colt, they put Jesus on it.

And [as] he was going along, they were spreading out their cloaks on the road.

And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

And will make you level with the earth, and your children with you; and there will not be one stone resting on another in you, because you did not see that it was your day of mercy.

And it came to pass, that on one of those days, as he taught the people in the temple, and preached the gospel, the chief priests and the scribes came upon him with the elders,

"I, too," said Jesus in reply, "will ask you one question. Give me an answer to it.

They discussed and debated it among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say, ‘Why did you not believe him?’

if we should assert, it was a human contrivance, the populace would stone us; for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.

Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.

And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard: but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty.

And he sent yet another servant: and him also they beat, and handled him shamefully, and sent him away empty.

“But when the tenant farmers saw him, they discussed it among themselves and said, ‘This is the heir. Let’s kill him, so the inheritance will be ours!’

He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

And having watched him, they sent out suborned persons, pretending to be just men, that they might take hold of him in his language, so that they might deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor.

And certain of the Sadducees came, those speaking against a resurrection, that it was not to be. And they asked Him,

"Rabbi, Moses made it a law for us that if a man's brother should die, leaving a wife but no children, the man shall marry the widow and raise up a family for his brother.

the second after marrying the widow, died likewise without children.

Then the third one married the [surviving] widow [of the first two brothers]. And in the same way, all seven [brothers] married her, but left no children [behind when they died].

The woman, then--at the Resurrection--whose wife shall she be? for they all seven married her."

but those accounted worthy to obtain that age, and the rising again that is out of the dead, neither marry, nor are they given in marriage;

Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

Now He is not the God of the dead, but of the living [so these forefathers will be among the resurrected]; for all live [in a definite relationship] to Him.”

which some of the Scribes approving, said to him, master, what you maintain is very just:

But he said to them, "In what sense do they say [that] the Christ is David's son?

David then gives him the name of Lord, so how is it possible for him to be his son?

These [men] who confiscate and devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense [to appear devout] offer long prayers. These [men] will receive the greater [sentence of] condemnation.”

Then Jesus looked up [i.e., from his seated position at the entrance to the Temple], and saw people throwing their gifts [of money] into the treasury [Note: This was a large open-mouthed container used for receiving offerings for meeting expenses of Temple upkeep].

for all these out of their abundance have cast into the gifts of God; but she out of her need has cast in all the living which she had.

“As for all these things which you see, the time will come when there will not be one stone left on another that will not be torn down.”

and when ye may hear of wars and uprisings, be not terrified, for it behoveth these things to happen first, but the end is not immediately.'

And before all these shall they cast their hands upon you, and drive out, delivering to assemblies, and prisons, being brought before kings and leaders for my name's sake.

for I will give you a mouth [i.e., the ability to speak properly] and wisdom [i.e., the knowledge of what to say], which none of your opponents will be able to resist or speak against.
