'Life' in the Bible
This is a record of the life of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
"That's why I'm telling you to stop worrying about your life what you will eat or what you will drink or about your body what you will wear. Life is more than food, isn't it, and the body more than clothing?
Can any of you add a single hour to the length of your life by worrying?
How narrow is the gate and how constricted is the road that leads to life, and there aren't many people who find it!"
The one who finds his life will lose it, and the one who loses his life because of me will find it."
As for what was sown among the thorn bushes, this is the person who hears the word, but the worries of life and the deceitful pleasures of wealth choke the word so that it can't produce a crop.
Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it,
because what profit will a person have if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life? Or what can a person give in exchange for his life?
"So if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life injured or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire.
And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell fire.
Just then a man came up to Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what good deed should I do to have eternal life?"
Jesus asked him, "Why ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you want to get into that life, you must keep the commandments."
In fact, everyone who has left his homes, brothers, sisters, father, mother, children, or fields because of my name will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.
That's the way it is with the Son of Man. He did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many people."
Jesus told them, "I tell all of you with certainty, tax collectors and prostitutes will get into God's kingdom ahead of you! John came to you living a righteous life, and you didn't believe him, but the tax collectors and prostitutes did. But even when you saw that, you didn't change your minds at last and believe him."
These people will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life."
tombs were opened, and many saints who had died were brought back to life.
Then he asked them, "Is it lawful to do good or to do evil on Sabbath days, to save a life or to destroy it?" But they remained silent.
but the worries of life, the deceitful pleasures of wealth, and the desires for other things come in and choke the word so that it can't produce a crop.
because whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and for the gospel will save it.
What profit will a person have if he gains the whole world and forfeits his life?
So if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It's better for you to enter life injured than to have two hands and go to hell, to the fire that cannot be put out.
And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It's better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell.
As Jesus was setting out again, a man ran up to him, knelt down in front of him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
who will not receive a hundred times as much here in this world homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and fields, along with persecution as well as eternal life in the age to come.
because even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many people."
Then Jesus asked them, "I ask you, is it lawful to do good or to do evil on the Sabbath, to save a life or to destroy it?"
When the centurion heard about Jesus, he sent some Jewish elders to him to ask him to come and save his servant's life.
The ones that fell among the thorn bushes are the people who listen, but as they go on their way they are choked by the worries, wealth, and pleasures of life, and their fruit doesn't mature.
by others that Elijah had appeared, and by still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life.
They answered, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, and still others one of the ancient prophets who has come back to life."
because whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
Just then an expert in the Law stood up to test Jesus. He asked, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
Then he told them, "Be careful to guard yourselves against every kind of greed, because a person's life doesn't consist of the amount of possessions he has."
But God told him, "You fool! This very night your life will be demanded back from you. Now who will get the things you've accumulated?'
Then Jesus told his disciples, "That's why I'm telling you to stop worrying about your life what you will eat or about your body what you will wear,
because life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.
Can any of you add an hour to the length of your life by worrying?
"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, as well as his own life, he can't be my disciple.
Because my son was dead and has come back to life. He was lost and has been found.' And they began to celebrate.
But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come back to life. He was lost and has been found.'"
Whoever tries to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will preserve it.
Then an official asked Jesus, "Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?"
who will not receive many times as much in this world, as well as eternal life in the age to come."
"Constantly be on your guard so that your hearts will not be loaded down with self-indulgence, drunkenness, and the worries of this life, or that day will take you by surprise
so that everyone who believes in him would have eternal life.
"For this is how God loved the world: He gave his unique Son so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life.
The one who believes in the Son has eternal life, but the one who disobeys the Son will not see life. Instead, the wrath of God remains on him.
But whoever drinks the water that I will give him will never become thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become a well of water for him, springing up to eternal life."
The one who harvests is already receiving his wages and gathering a crop for eternal life, so that the one who sows and the one who harvests may rejoice together.
Just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to those he chooses.
"Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, whoever hears what I say and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged, but has passed from death to life.
Just as the Father has life in himself, so also he has granted the Son to have life in himself,
and will come out those who have done what is good to the resurrection that leads to life, and those who have practiced what is evil to the resurrection that ends in condemnation.
You examine the Scriptures carefully because you suppose that in them you have eternal life. Yet they testify about me.
Do not work for food that perishes but for food that lasts for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set his seal on him."
The bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."
Jesus told them, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never become hungry, and whoever believes in me will never become thirsty.
And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything that he has given me, but should raise it to life on the last day.
This is my Father's will: That everyone who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him to life on the last day."
No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him to life on the last day.
Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, the one who believes in me has eternal life.
I'm the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats this bread, he'll live forever. And the bread I will give for the life of the world is my flesh."
So Jesus told them, "Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don't have life in yourselves.
Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I'll raise him to life on the last day,
It's the Spirit who gives life; the flesh accomplishes nothing. The words that I've spoken to you are spirit and life.
Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.
Later on, Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. The one who follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."
The thief comes only to steal, slaughter, and destroy. I've come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.
"I'm the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep.
This is why the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it back again.
I give them eternal life, they'll never be lost, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
Jesus told her, "I am the resurrection and the life. The person who believes in me, even though he dies, will live.
The one who loves his life will destroy it, and the one who hates his life in this world will preserve it for eternal life.
And I know that what he commands brings eternal life. What I speak, therefore, I speak just as the Father has told me."
"Lord, why can't I follow you now?" Peter asked him. "I would lay down my life for you!"
Jesus answered him, "Would you lay down your life for me? I tell you emphatically, a rooster will not crow until you have denied me three times."
Jesus told him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
No one shows greater love than when he lays down his life for his friends.
For you have given him authority over all humanity so that he might give eternal life to all those you gave him.
And this is eternal life: to know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent Jesus the Messiah.
But these have been recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and so that through believing you may have life in his name.
You have made the ways of life known to me, and you will fill me with gladness in your presence.'
and you killed the source of life, whom God raised from the dead. We are witnesses to that.
"Go, stand in the Temple, and keep on telling the people the whole message about this life they can have."
The God of our ancestors raised Jesus to life after you killed him by hanging him on a tree.
In his humiliation, justice was denied him. Who can describe his descendants? For his life is taken away from the earth."
When they heard this, they calmed down, and praised God by saying, "So God has given repentance that leads to life even to gentiles."
Then Paul and Barnabas boldly declared, "We had to speak God's word to you first, but since you reject it and consider yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we are now going to turn to the gentiles.
When the gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord. Meanwhile, all who had been destined to eternal life believed,
and he isn't served by people as if he needed anything. He himself gives everyone life, breath, and everything else.
Even some officials of the province of Asia who were his friends sent him a message urging him not to risk his life in the theater.
But I don't place any value on my life, if only I can finish my race and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.
But now I urge you to have courage, because there will be no loss of life among you, but only loss of the ship.
