What shall we say then? Is the law sin? By no means. But Sin having taken occasion through the commandment wrought in me every inordinate desire; for without the law sin was dead. And I was alive without the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died, read more. and the commandment which was for life was found to be for death. For sin having taken occasion through the commandment deceived me, and through it killed me. The law therefore is holy, and the commandment holy and righteous and good. By no means, but sin; that sin might be made manifest, producing death to me through that which is good, that sin might become exceedingly sinful through the commandment. For we know that the law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I do this I approve not; for I do not what I wish, but what I hate, this I do. But if what I wish not this I do, I consent to the law that it is good; and now I no longer do it, but the sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me, that is in my flesh, there dwells no good. For to wish is present with me, but to do the good is not; for the good which I wish I do not, but the evil which I wish not this I do. But if what I wish not this I do, I no longer do it, but sin which dwells in me. I find therefore the law, that when I wish to do good evil is present with me; for I consent to the law of God as to my inward man, [my soul], but I see another law in my members warring against the law of my mind, and making me captive to the law of sin which is in my members. But you are of him in Christ Jesus, who has become to us wisdom from God, and righteousness, and sanctification and redemption, that as it is written, He that glories, let him glory in the Lord.

You believe that there is one God? You do well; demons also believe and tremble. But will you know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? You see then that a man is justified by works and not by faith only. And in like manner also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body without a spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
