In the resurrection, whose wife will she be? For all seven [brothers] were married to her.”

But as touching the dead, that they are raised; have ye not read in the book of Moses, in the place concerning the Bush, how God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?

Then the scribe said to Him, “You are right, Teacher! You have correctly said that He is One, and there is no one else except Him.

When Jesus saw that he answered thoughtfully and intelligently, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And after that, no one would dare to ask Him any more questions.

Jesus began to say, as He taught in [a portico or court of] the temple, How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David?

therefore David himself saith of him Lord, and whence is he his son?' And the great multitude were hearing him gladly,

Moreover in the course of His teaching He said, "Be on your guard against the Scribes who like to walk about in long robes and to be bowed to in places of public resort,

And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here!

Jesus said to him, "Are you looking in wonder at these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another that will not be torn down."

And as he is sitting at the mount of the Olives, over-against the temple, Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, were questioning him by himself,

Tell us, when shall these things be? and what'shall be the sign when these things are all about to be accomplished?

And Jesus said to them, Take care that you are not tricked by anyone.

When ye shall hear of war, and tidings of war, be ye not troubled. For such things must needs be. But the end is not yet.

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

“But you, be on your guard! They will hand you over to sanhedrins, and you will be flogged in the synagogues. You will stand before governors and kings because of Me, as a witness to them.

You will be objects of universal hatred because you are called by my name, but those who stand firm to the End will be saved.

But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

The one who is on his housetop must not come down or go inside to take anything out of his house,

For in those days there will be suffering unlike anything that has happened from the beginning of the creation that God created until now, or ever will happen.

And if the Lord had not kept those days as short as they were, no one would have been saved [i.e., from the devastating destruction]. But for the sake of the elect [i.e., God's people], whom He chose, He kept those days short.

Now, from the fig-tree, learn ye, the parable: - When, already, her young branch, becometh tender, and, the leaves, are sprouting, ye observe that, near, is, the summer:

So also do you, when you see these things happening, be sure that He is near, at your very door.

I assure you and most solemnly say to you, this generation [the people living when these signs and events begin] will not pass away until all these things take place.

“Be on guard and stay constantly alert [and pray]; for you do not know when the appointed time will come.

“Not during the festival,” they said, “or there may be rioting among the people.”

for this could have been sold for more than three hundred denaries, and given to the poor;' and they were murmuring at her.

And he will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make your preparations for us there."

The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

Then He took a cup [i.e., probably wine made from fresh or possibly preserved grape juice], and when He had given thanks to God, He passed it to them and they all drank from it.

Then said Jesus to them, "All of you are about to stumble and fall, for it is written, 'I will strike down the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered in all directions.'

But Peter said to Him, “Even if they all fall away [and desert You, ashamed and afraid of being associated with You], yet I will not [do so]!”

But Peter kept saying insistently, “If I have to die with You, I will not deny You!” And they all were saying the same thing as well.

He said to them, "My soul is extremely grieved, even to the point where I could die. Stay here and be alert [i.e., in prayer]."

And He came back and found them sleeping, and He said to Peter, “Simon, are you asleep? Were you unable to keep watch for one hour?

And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Just then, while Jesus was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. A crowd armed with swords and clubs was with him. They were from the high priests, the scribes, and the elders.

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

I was daily among you, teaching in the temple, and you did not then seize upon me. but the scriptures are thereby accomplished.

And, a certain young man, was following with him, having cast about himself a fine Indian cloth, over his naked body, - and they are securing him;

And they led Jesus away to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes.

Peter followed him at a distance till he got inside the courtyard of the high priest, where he sat down with the attendants to warm himself at the fire.

And the chief priests and all the sanhedrim were seeking against Jesus testimony -- to put him to death, and they were not finding,

And certain having risen up, were bearing false testimony against him, saying --

He said in our hearing, I will put an end to this Temple which is made with hands, and in three days I will make another without hands.

The high priest stood up and came forward and asked Jesus, “Have You no answer to give [in response] to what these men are testifying against You?”

You have heard the blasphemy [that is, His claim to be the Son of God]. What is your decision?” And they all condemned Him to be [guilty and] deserving of death.

and certain began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say to him, 'Prophesy;' and the officers were striking him with their palms.

Now when Peter was in the courtyard downstairs [i.e., from where the Sanhedrin was having its meeting. See verse 55], one of the head priest's servant girls came in,

and when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked intently at him and said, “You were with Jesus the Nazarene, too.”

But he denied it: “I don’t know or understand what you’re talking about!” Then he went out to the entryway, and a rooster crowed.

And the girl saw him, and said again to those who were near, This is one of them.
