'Yourselves' in the Bible
And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
But I say to you, do not make an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God;
Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
“Do not judge and criticize and condemn [others unfairly with an attitude of self-righteous superiority as though assuming the office of a judge], so that you will not be judged [unfairly].
for your own judgement will be dealt--and your own measure meted--to yourselves.
Do not provide yourselves with gold, or silver, or brass, for your belts,
"Remember it is I who am sending you out, as sheep into the midst of wolves; prove yourselves as sagacious as serpents, and as innocent as doves.
All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves.
But Jesus said to them, There is no need for them to go away; give them food yourselves.
And He answered and said to them, “Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition?
Which when Jesus perceived, he said unto them, O ye of little faith, why reason ye among yourselves, because ye have brought no bread?
But Jesus came and touched them, and said, "Rouse yourselves and have no fear."
What do you yourselves think? Suppose a man gets a hundred sheep and one of them strays away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go and look for the one that is straying?
And Jesus answering said, 'Ye have not known what ye ask for yourselves; are ye able to drink of the cup that I am about to drink? and with the baptism that I am baptized with, to be baptized?' They say to him, 'We are able.'
For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not; but the tax-gatherers and the harlots believed him; but ye when ye saw it repented not yourselves afterwards to believe him.
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
"But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men; for you don't enter in yourselves, neither do you allow those who are entering in to enter.
Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;
Rouse yourselves. Let us be going. My betrayer is close at hand."
Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has blasphemed! Why do we still need witnesses? Listen! You yourselves have just heard the blasphemy!
When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was starting instead, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said, “I am innocent of this man’s blood. See to it yourselves!”
At once, Jesus knew in his spirit what they were saying to themselves. "Why are you arguing about such things among yourselves?" he asked them.
And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
But He replied, “You give them something to eat!” And they asked Him, “Shall we go and buy 200 denarii worth of bread and give it to them to eat?”
And he said to them, Well do ye set aside the commandment of God, that ye may observe what is delivered by yourselves to keep.
And Jesus, hearing it, said to them, Why are you reasoning among yourselves because you have no bread? do you still not see, and is it still not clear to you? are your hearts so hard?
And He asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter replied to Him, “You [in contrast to the others] are the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed).”
And he came to Capernaum: and being in the house he asked them, What was it that ye disputed among yourselves by the way?
where their worm [that feeds on the dead] does not die, and the fire is not put out.
Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.
But take heed to yourselves: for they shall deliver you up to councils; and in the synagogues ye shall be beaten: and ye shall be brought before rulers and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them.
But be on your guard; I have told you everything in advance.
Rouse yourselves, let us be going: my betrayer is close at hand."
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
Because Jesus knew that they were arguing, he asked them, "Why are you arguing about this among yourselves?
Be not judges of others, and you will not be judged: do not give punishment to others, and you will not get punishment yourselves: make others free, and you will be made free:
But He said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless perhaps we go and buy food for all these people.”
And He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter replied, “The Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed) of God!”
But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and plate [as required by tradition]; but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.
And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers.
Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.
At which time the myriads of the multitude having been gathered together, so as to tread upon one another, he began to say unto his disciples, first, 'Take heed to yourselves of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy;
Whenever they bring you before synagogues and rulers and authorities, don’t worry about how you should defend yourselves or what you should say.
Then he told them, "Be careful to guard yourselves against every kind of greed, because a person's life doesn't consist of the amount of possessions he has."
"So stop concerning yourselves about what you will eat or what you will drink, and stop being distressed,
Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.
And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
Then the Warden of the Synagogue, indignant that Jesus had cured her on a Sabbath, said to the crowd, "There are six days in the week on which people ought to work. On those days therefore come and get yourselves cured, and not on the Sabbath day."
“Strive to enter through the narrow door [force aside unbelief and the attractions of sin]; for many, I tell you, will try to enter [by their own works] and will not be able.
There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.
And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.
If therefore you have not proved yourselves faithful in dealing with the wealth that is tainted with fraud, who will entrust to you the true good?
And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.
And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed.
So make up your minds not to prepare beforehand to defend yourselves;
and these things beginning to happen bend yourselves back, and lift up your heads, because your redemption doth draw nigh.'
As soon as they put out leaves you can see for yourselves and recognize that summer is already near.
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
And he said, Why are you sleeping? Get up, and give yourselves to prayer, so that you may not be put to the test.
But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
Then Jesus asked them, “What are you discussing with one another as you walk along?” And they stood still, looking brokenhearted.
Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
You have sent [an inquiry] to John [the Baptist] and he has testified [as an eyewitness] to the truth.
John was the lamp that kept on burning and shining [to show you the way], and you were willing for a while to rejoice in his light.
And you do not have his word residing in yourselves, because the one whom that one sent, in this one you do not believe.
but I have known you, that the love of God ye have not in yourselves.
Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.
So Jesus said to them, “I assure you: Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you do not have life in yourselves.
Go up to the festival yourselves. I’m not going up to the festival yet, because My time has not yet fully come.”
You judge according to human standards [just by what you see]. I do not judge anyone.
for the poor ye have always with yourselves, and me ye have not always.'
By this shall all know that ye are disciples of mine, if ye have love amongst yourselves.
On that day [when that time comes] you will know for yourselves that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I am in you.
Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.]
My Father is glorified and honored by this, when you bear much fruit, and prove yourselves to be My [true] disciples.
You did not take me for yourselves, but I took you for myself; and I gave you the work of going about and producing fruit which will be for ever; so that whatever request you make to the Father in my name he may give it to you.
Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
So Pilate told them, “Take Him yourselves and judge Him according to your law.”“It’s not legal for us to put anyone to death,” the Jews declared.
When the chief priests and the temple police saw Him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!”Pilate responded, “Take Him and crucify Him yourselves, for I find no grounds for charging Him.”
Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
Therefore having been exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He has poured out this [blessing] which you both see and hear.
And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves,
And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
But if it is really from God, you will be powerless to put them down--lest perhaps you find yourselves to be actually fighting against God."
Look out therefore, brethren, from among yourselves seven men, well reported of, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we will establish over this business:
You also took along the tabernacle (portable temple) of Moloch and the star of the god Rompha, the images which you made to worship; and I will remove you beyond Babylon [carrying you away into exile].’
But Simon answered and said, “Pray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me.”
And he said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a man who is a Jew to associate with a foreigner or to visit him; and yet God has shown me that I should not call any man unholy or unclean.
you yourselves know the thing which took place throughout all Judea, starting from Galilee, after the baptism which John proclaimed.
Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.
