He told them this and stayed on in Galilee.

16349

This very John had his clothing made of camel's hair, and wore a leather belt around his waist; his food was dried locusts and wild honey.

16351

And all at once something like scales fell from his eyes, he regained his sight, got up and was baptized,

16352

Some days later, Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul and heard him talk about faith in Christ Jesus.

16358

He did not tell them anything except by stories, but to His own disciples He kept on privately explaining everything.

16359

Then the brothers at once sent Paul off to the coast, while Silas and Timothy stayed on there.

16362

So they bound Him, led Him away, and turned Him over to Pilate the governor.

16366

but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks alike, the Christ who is God's power and God's wisdom.

16367

Here are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, who was named Peter, and his brother Andrew, James the son of Zebedee and his brother John,

16369

Here is scope for a mind that is packed with wisdom. The seven heads are the seven hills on which the woman is seated.

16371

So the first angel went and emptied his bowl upon the earth, and horrible, painful sores broke out on the men who bore the mark of the wild beast and worshiped his statue.

16372

It is I, John, who heard and saw these things. When I heard and saw them, I fell at the feet of the angel who was showing them to me, to worship him.

16374

As they were leaving Jericho, a great crowd followed Him.

16376

Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said to Him, "Why is it, Lord, that you are going to make yourself real to us and not to the world?"

16379

and yet on going inside they did not find the body.

16386

and with a loud shout she said: "Blessed are you among women, And blessed is your child!

16387

This is the instruction which I entrust to you, my son Timothy, which is in accordance with the prophetic utterances formerly made about you, that you may, aided by them, continue to fight the good fight,

16388

He came back the third time and said to them, "Are you still sleeping and resting? No more of that! The hour has come. See! The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinful men.

16389

He answered, "Elijah does come and will get everything ready.

16395

and for the heathen peoples to praise God for His mercy, as the Scripture says: "For this I will give thanks to you among the heathen, and will sing praises to your name."

16396

For when we were living in accordance with our lower nature, the sinful passions that were aroused by the law were operating in the parts of our bodies to make us bear fruit that leads to death.

16399

and they were continually in the temple, praising God.

16401

He will go forth to lead astray the nations that are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, and to muster them for battle, and their number will be like the sands of the seashore.

16402

Then the Jewish believers who had gone along with Peter were astounded because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been showered upon the heathen too,

16405

and asked Him, "Do you hear what they are saying?" Jesus answered them, "Yes. Did you never read this, 'Out of the mouths of little children, yea, of infants, you have perfect praise'?"

16410

Then the doors of God's temple in heaven were thrown open, and inside the temple was seen the chest containing God's covenant, and there followed flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and heavy hail.

16411

So He sent Peter and John, saying to them, "Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover meal."

16412

Have I then turned into an enemy to you, because I tell you the truth?

16414

But some of the guests were indignantly saying to themselves, "Why was such a waste of the perfume made?

16416

But although they had heard that He was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.

16421

Still others stood the test of taunts and tortures, and even chains and prisons.

16426

And because He saw that they were struggling at the oars, for the wind was against them, a while before daybreak He started toward them walking on the sea, and He meant to go right up beside them.

16429

Not at all! Since we have ended our relation to sin, how can we live in it any longer?

16430

"Do not injure the earth, the sea, or the trees, until we mark the slaves of our God with His seal on their foreheads."

16431

With this in view we are always praying for you too, that our God may make you worthy of His call, and by His power fully satisfy your every desire for goodness, and complete every activity of your faith,

16432

Do not be thinking that I am going to accuse you to the Father. You have your accuser; it is Moses on whom you have set your hopes!

16433

I know, and through my union with the Lord Jesus I have a clear conviction, that nothing is unclean in itself; that a thing is unclean only to the person who thinks it unclean.

16435

"We ourselves have heard Him say, 'I will tear down this temple built by men's hands, and in three days I will build another, made without hands.'"

16436

far above every other government, authority, power, and dominion, yea, far above every other title that can be conferred, not only in this world but in the world to come.

16438

So the women, who had come with Jesus from Galilee, followed closely after Joseph and saw the tomb and how His body was laid there.

16443

We are witnesses of everything that He did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. Yet they murdered Him by hanging Him upon a tree.

16447

he will tell you truths through which you and your whole household will be saved.'

16449

But the truth of Christ in me, this boasting of mine shall never be stopped in the boundaries of Greece.

16453

'"Heaven is my throne, and earth a footstool for my feet. What house can you build for me?" says the Lord; "Or what place is there in which I can rest?

16455

And as Jesus was about to go up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside, and said to them while on the road,

16456

I am speaking in familiar human terms because of the frailty of your nature. For just as you formerly offered the parts of your bodies in slavery to impurity and to ever increasing lawlessness, so now you must once for all offer them in slavery to right-doing, which leads to consecration.

16462

And without any reserve He was telling them this fact. So Peter took Him aside and began to reprove Him for it.

16468

Here is what I am saying to you: If you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ can do you no good.

16474

But they continued emphatically insisting, "He is exciting the people by teaching all over Judea. He started in Galilee and now He is here."

16477

And the Lord said to him, "Get up and go to the street called 'The Straight Street,' and ask at the house of Judas for one named Saul, from Tarsus, for he is now praying there.

16480

After singing a hymn, they left the city, and went up the Mount of Olives.

16482

This is why God sends them a misleading influence till they actually believe what is false,

16484

So he moved into the house of a pagan named Titus Justus, who worshiped the true God; his house was next to the synagogue.

16486

So you will ask me, "Why does He still find fault? For who can resist His will?"

16487

so He sent messengers before Him. Then they went on and entered into a Samaritan town, to make preparations for Him.

16494

For they did not dare to ask Him any more questions.

16496

But they all together began to shout, "Away with this fellow, but let us have Barabbas released!

16499

With many stories like these He kept on telling them the message, as far as they could understand it.

16504

When Jesus had ended this discourse, He said to His disciples,

16508

He again crossed the Jordan at the place where John at first used to baptize, and there He stayed.

16509

He leads the inhabitants of the earth astray because of the wonders he is permitted to perform in the presence of the wild beast, telling the inhabitants of the earth to erect a statue to the wild beast that bears the sword-thrust and yet has lived.

16514

Jesus said to them, "Does not this prove that you are wrong in your views, because you do not understand either the Scriptures or the power of God?

16515

envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I now warn you, as I have done before, that those who practice such things shall not be heirs of the kingdom of God.

16518

Then they asked Him, "Teacher, when will this be? And what is the sign that it is about to take place?"

16522

while Israel, though ever in pursuit of a law that would bring right standing, did not attain to it.

16523

I solemnly say to you, all this will come upon this age!

16530

For to anyone who has, more will be given, and his supply will overflow, but from anyone who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.

16542

He let no one go with Him but Peter, James, and James's brother John.

16545

And turning face to face with the woman He said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came to your house; you did not give me any water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with tears and wiped them with her hair.

16548

But when you are invited anywhere, go and take the lowest place, so that when your host comes in, he may say to you, 'My friend, come up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow-guests.

16551

And they kept saying to one another, "Who will roll the boulder back from the doorway of the tomb for us?"

16555

Then Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man answered, "Good Teacher, I want to see again."

16558

who have missed the truth by saying that the resurrection has already taken place, are undermining some people's faith.

16560

She gave birth to a son, a male child who is going to rule all the nations with a scepter of iron; and the child was caught up to God, to His throne.

16563

and said to Him, "If you are God's Son, throw yourself down, for the Scripture says: "'He will give His angels directions about you, And they will bear you up on their hands, so you will never strike your foot against a stone.'"

16565

Then I looked, and there was a bright cloud with one seated on it like the Son of man, with a crown of gold on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand.

16566

After saying this he took some bread and thanked God for it before them all; then he broke it in pieces and began to eat it.

16568

but if it has its origin in God, you can never stop it. It is to be feared that you may find yourselves fighting God."

16573

for He has put everything in subjection under His feet. But when He says that everything has been put in subjection to Him, He Himself is evidently excepted who put it all in subjection to Him.

16575

Now Jesus, because He saw a crowd about Him, gave orders to cross to the other side.

16576

so that the blood of all the prophets that has been shed from the creation of the world may be charged against the men of this age --

16578

Whoever speaks in ecstasy builds up himself alone, but whoever prophesies builds up the congregation too.

16580

I did see it; and my testimony is that He is the Son of God."

16582

who by their faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, received new promises, shut the mouths of lions,

16584

I tell you, two men will be in the same bed that night; one will be taken, the other left.

16594

When it grew late, His disciples came to Him and said, "This is a destitute place and it is already late.

16600

Even the very hairs on your head have all been counted by God.

16604

do you now say to me whom my Father has set apart to it and sent into the world, 'You are a blasphemer,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'?

16607

Now when He supplies you with the Spirit and performs His wonder-works among you, does He do it because you do what the law commands, or because you believe the message that you heard --

16608

So God turned away from them and gave them over to worship the starry host, as it is written in the Book of the Prophets: 'Did you really offer me victims and sacrifices those forty years in the desert, O house of Israel?

16609

And one of their number, an expert in the law, to tempt Him, asked,

16610

Simon the zealot, and Judas Iscariot, who afterward betrayed Him.

16613

Now when the feast was already half over, Jesus went up to the temple and began to teach.

16617

Jesus answered them, "If you were blind, you would not be guilty, but now you keep on claiming, 'We can see'; so your sin remains."

16618

So when He said to them, "I am He," they took a lurch backward and fell to the ground.

16620

Peter looked him straight in the eye, and so did John, and said, "Look at us."

16621

Jesus answered him, "I have spoken publicly to the world; I have always taught in the synagogues and in the temple where all the Jews are in the habit of meeting, and I have not spoken anything in secret.

16626

So at once they got up and went back to Jerusalem and found the Eleven and their company all together,

16628

in whose prostitution the kings of the earth have joined, and with the wine of whose prostitution the inhabitants of the earth have been intoxicated."

16634

"When you are invited by anyone to a wedding supper, never take the best place, for someone of greater distinction than you may have been invited,

16635

When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, "Jesus, you son of David, do pity me!"

16639

and they were completely astounded, because His message was spoken with authority.

16643

for He has smiled upon His slave in her lowly station, for from this day all ages will count me happy!

16644

Now a man will scarcely ever give his life for an upright person, though once in a while a man is brave enough to die for a generous friend.

16649

Then he cried out, "Jesus, you Son of David, do pity me!"

16650

He has put His trust in God; let God deliver Him now, if He cares for Him, for He said, 'I am the Son of God.'"

16653

and said to them, "The Scripture says, 'My house must be called a house of prayer,' but you have made it a cave for robbers."

16662

But get up and stand on your feet, for I have appeared to you for the very purpose of appointing you my servant and a witness to me of the things which you have seen and those which I shall yet enable you to see.

16663

He answered them, "It was because of your moral perversity that Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but it was not so from the beginning.

16667

A curse on you, you blind leaders who say, 'Whoever swears by the sanctuary is not duty-bound, but whoever swears by the gold of the sanctuary is duty-bound.'

16668

For Herod had arrested John and bound him and put him out of the way by putting him in prison, just to please Herodias, his brother Philip's wife,

16673

This is not the kind of wisdom that comes down from above; no, it is earthly, human, demoniacal.

16676

So I am always cheerful and confident, although I know that as long as I am at home in the body I am away from home and the Lord

16680

So where is your philosopher? Where is your man of letters? Where is your logician of this age? Has not God shown up the nonsense of the world's wisdom?

16684

In the same way, after supper, He took the cup of wine, saying, "This cup is the new covenant ratified by my blood. Whenever you drink it, do so in memory of me."

16691

Are they ministers of Christ? So am I. I am talking like a man that has gone crazy -- as such I am superior! -- serving Him with labors greater by far, with far more imprisonments, with floggings vastly worse, and often at the point of death.

16692

So take a look at the goodness and the severity of God; severity to those who have fallen, but goodness to you, on condition that you continue to live by His goodness; otherwise, you too will be pruned away.

16696

But when they came to Jesus, as they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs,

16700

But He answered them, "Do you see all these things? I solemnly say to you, there shall not be left here one stone upon another that shall not be torn down."

16702

And now I am going to be with you, and I am saying these things while still in the world, that the joy which I experience may be fully experienced in their own souls.

16703

And all the crowds who had come together for this sight, when they had seen what took place, returned to the city but continued to beat their breasts in grief.

16704

The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate built of a single pearl. The Broadway of the city was pure gold, as transparent as glass.

16706

So he said to the vine-dresser, 'Look here! for three years I have been coming to look for figs on this fig tree, and have not found any. Cut it down. Why waste the ground with it?'

16711

so that on you will come all the righteous blood shed on the earth from the blood of upright Abel to the blood of Zechariah, Barachiah's son, whom you murdered between the sanctuary and the altar.

16712

But a Samaritan, while on a journey, came down to him, and when he saw him, his heart was moved with pity for him.

16713

When His parents saw Him, they were utterly amazed, and yet His mother said to Him, "My child, why did you treat us so? Just see how your father and I, in agony of mind, have been searching for you!"

16716

Then Jesus took the loaves and gave thanks, and distributed them among the people who were sitting on the ground; so too with the fish as much as they wanted.

16717

The men who were with me saw the light, but they did not hear the voice of Him who was speaking to me.

16720

Jesus answered, "If I glorify myself, such glory amounts to nothing. It is the Father who glorifies me; and you claim that He is your God.

16723

So in them the prophecy of the prophet Isaiah is fulfilled, which says: "'You will listen and listen and not understand, and you will look and look and never see at all,

16730

When Jesus had closed this address, the result was that the crowds were dumbfounded at His teaching,

16731

But whenever you, a follower of mine, do a deed of charity, never let your own left hand know what your right hand is doing,

16732

However, regarding the angels He says: "He turns His angels into winds, and His attendants into flames of fire."

16733

So there was a vociferous yelling until some of the scribes, belonging to the party of the Pharisees, got up and fiercely contended, "We find nothing wrong with this man. Suppose a spirit or angel has really spoken to him!"

16736

While the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and dropped off to sleep.

16737

The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and in accordance with that law He deserves to die, for claiming to be God's Son."

16738

A man, then, must examine himself, and only in this way should he eat any of the bread and drink from the cup.

16740

For we have had the good news told to us as well as they, but the message heard did them no good, because they were not by faith made one with those who heeded it.

16746

spiritual blessing and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

16748

Just at that time she came up and began to give thanks to God and to speak about the child to all who were expecting the deliverance of Jerusalem.

16750

If not, why did you go out there? To see a prophet?

16756

But to what angel did He ever say: "Just keep your seat at my right hand, until I make your foes a footstool for your feet"?

16760

Then I saw the wild beast, the kings of the earth, and their armies gather to go to war with the Rider of the horse and His army.

16761

Now while he was on the bench, his wife sent him this word, "Do not have anything to do with that righteous man, for I have this morning suffered excruciating pain in a dream caused by Him."

16763

For this took place that this Scripture might be fulfilled, "Not a bone of His will be broken."

16769

But they shouted, "Kill Him! Kill Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Must I crucify your king?" The high priests answered, "We have no king but the emperor!"

16772

And as the harbor was not fit to winter in, the majority favored the plan to set sail from there and see if they could reach Phoenix and winter there, this being a harbor in Crete facing west-southwest and west-north-west.

16777

Then He continued to say to them, "One nation will go to war with another, and one kingdom with another.

16780

At that moment for the second time a Cock crowed. Then Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, "Before the cock crows twice, you will disown me three times!" And when he remembered that, he burst into tears.

16782

It does not act with rudeness, or insist upon its rights; it never gets provoked, it never harbors evil thoughts;

16788

The queen of the south will rise with the leaders of this age at the judgment and condemn them, for she came from the farthest limits of the earth to listen to Solomon's wisdom, and there is more than Solomon here!

16790

As soon as she heard it, she jumped up and started to Jesus,

16791

You hypocrite, first get the girder out of your own eye, and then you can see well enough to get the tiny speck out of your brother's eye.

16792

So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen, from David to the Babylonian Exile fourteen, from the Babylonian Exile to Christ fourteen.

16794

Epaphras, one of your own number, a slave of Christ Jesus, wishes to be remembered to you. He is always earnestly pleading for you in his prayers that you may stand fast as men mature and of firm convictions in everything required by the will of God.

16802

As the Scripture says: "For your sake we are being put to death the livelong day; we are treated like sheep to be slaughtered."

16807

So off they hurried from the tomb, frightened and yet in ecstasy, and ran to break the news to His disciples.

16810

For who has ever understood the thoughts of the Lord, or has ever been His adviser?

16811

because this son of mine was dead and has come to life, was lost and has been found!' So they began to celebrate.

16814

and how by revelation the secret was made known to me, as I have briefly written before.

16815

Which one of these three do you think proved himself a real neighbor to the man who fell into the robbers' hands?"

16821

For the law results in wrath alone, but where there is no law, there can be no violation of it.

16823

You have made known to me the ways of life, and you will fill me with delight in your presence.'

16824

Then the seventh angel emptied his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the sanctuary from the throne, saying, "It is done."

16825

But the rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works their hands had done, so as to give up worshiping demons and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood, which cannot either see or hear or move;

16826

So if you have not proved dependable in handling your ill-gotten riches, who will trust you with the true riches?

16828

The disciples said to Him, "Lord, if he has merely fallen asleep, he will recover."

16829

Even in your own law it is written, 'The testimony of two persons is true.'

16833

But at midnight there was a shout, 'Here comes the bridegroom! Go out to meet him!'

16834

I tell you, I will never again drink the product of the vine till the day when I drink the new wine with you in my Father's kingdom."

16836

When He went back again, He found them asleep again, for their eyes were so heavy they could hardly hold them open; and they did not know what answer to make Him.

16839

You see that faith cooperated with his good deeds, and by his good deeds faith was made complete;

16840

So Jesus said to him, as He saw that he had answered thoughtfully, "You are not far from the kingdom of God." And no one ventured to ask Him any more questions.

16842

I mean that what the heathen sacrifice they sacrifice to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be in fellowship with demons.

16844

Now they have come to know that everything you have given me really comes from you;

16848

So they got off in their boat to be by themselves in a quiet place.

16852

"What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them gets lost, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillsides, and go and search for the one that is lost?

16855

'And you, Bethlehem in Judah's land, You are not at all the least among the leading places of Judah, for out of you will come a ruler, who will shepherd my people Israel.'"

16856

Let the person who is doing evil do evil still; let the filthy person be filthy still; let the upright person still do right; let the consecrated person still be consecrated.

16857

But in reality they were aspiring for a better country, I mean, a heavenly one. This is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

16858

They are great from every point of view. In the first place, the Jews are entrusted with the utterances of God.

16860

"You must store away in your memories these words, for the Son of Man is going to be turned over to the hands of men!"

16862

"He has blinded their eyes and benumbed their hearts, so that they cannot see with their eyes and understand with their hearts, and turn to me to cure them."

16864

And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of great waters and the rumbling of loud thunders. The sound that I heard was like that of harpists playing on their harps.

16867

but I see another power operating in my lower nature in conflict with the power operated by my reason, which makes me a prisoner to the power of sin which is operating in my lower nature.

16872

but in the days when the seventh angel speaks, when he is about to blow his trumpet, then God's mysterious message, in accordance with the good news He gave to His slaves, the prophets, would be accomplished.

16874

He answered them, "Just after you enter the city, a man with a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him into the house which he enters

16878

So the Jews surrounded Him and kept asking Him, "How much longer are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are really the Christ, tell us so plainly."

16882

The Jews again picked up stones to stone Him.

16885

Even at that time of the night he took them and washed their wounds, and he and all the members of his household at once were baptized.

16887

And while the charges were being made against Him by the high priests and elders, He made no answer.

16889

The man who eats anything must not look down on the man who does not do so, nor must the man who does not do so condemn the man who does, for God has fully accepted him.

16893

They were singing a new song before the throne, the four living creatures, and the elders, and no one could learn the song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been redeemed from the earth.

16896

I mean this: The law which was given four hundred and thirty years later could not annul the contract which had already been ratified by God, so as to cancel the promise.

16898

Luke is the only one who is now with me. Pick up Mark and bring him with you, for he is of great service to me,

16902

So I most happily boast about my weaknesses, so that the strength of Christ may overshadow me. That is why I take such pleasure in weaknesses, insults, distresses, persecution, and difficulties, which I endure for Christ's sake, for it is when I am consciously weak that I am really strong.

16904

But of Israel he said: "All day long I have held out my hands to a people that is disobedient and obstinate."

16910

However, if I want to boast, I will not play the fool, for it will be nothing but the truth that I will tell. But I refrain from doing so, to keep anybody, on account of the superiority of the revelations, from giving me a higher rating than my actions and teachings deserve.

16912

So you must never be afraid of them, for there is nothing covered that will not be uncovered, nor a secret that will not be known.

16914

For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "I have raised you to your position for this very purpose of displaying my power in dealing with you, of announcing my name all over the earth."

16915

and ordered them, "Go into the village that is ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, and a colt with her. Untie her and bring them to me.
