For from Him everything comes, through Him everything lives, and for Him everything exists. Glory to Him forever! Amen.

1684

Now I am going to tell you, brothers, of God's spiritual blessing which was given in the churches of Macedonia,

1685

If we have food and clothes we will be satisfied.

1690

When He got back to Capernaum, a Roman military captain came up to Him and kept begging Him,

1693

And He said, "Are you too, even yet, without understanding?

1700

This is a proof of God's righteous judgment, His aim being to let you show yourselves worthy of His kingdom, for which you are suffering; since,

1701

Yes, I will be in earnest, so that every time you have occasion, after I have gone away, you may call these things to mind.

1702

so Christ was offered once for all to take away the sins of many, but again He will appear, without having anything to do with sin, to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him to bring them final salvation.

1703

whose mouths must be stopped, for they upset whole families by teaching things they ought not to think, for the sake of dishonest gain.

1705

Do you not know, brothers -- for I speak to those who are acquainted with the law -- that the law can press its claim over a man only so long as he lives?

1707

So Jesus, on seeing His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing near, said to His mother, "There is your son."

1712

When he had left, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in Him,

1715

For you have not come to a blazing fire that can be touched, to gloom and darkness, storm

1716

You must recognize them by their fruits. People do not pick grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles, do they?

1721

Dearly beloved, you are acting faithfully in doing what you can for the brothers, especially as they are strangers.

1723

And now I beg you, my lady, not as though I were writing you a new command, but one which we had from the beginning, that we continue to love one another.

1729

Then He told them a story, as follows: "A certain rich man's lands yielded bountifully.

1730

Stop returning evil for evil to anyone. Always see to it that your affairs are right in the sight of everybody.

1731

When He had finished all these sayings in the hearing of the people, He went into Capernaum.

1733

While He was in Bethany, He was a guest in the home of Simon the leper, and as He was sitting at table, a woman came in with an alabaster bottle of pure nard perfume, very costly; she broke the bottle and poured the perfume on His head.

1738

Now there was in Jerusalem a man named Symeon, an upright, devout man; he was expecting to see the consolation of Israel, and he was under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

1739

In the one case, mortal men collect the tenth, in the other, one who, as the witness states, lives on.

1740

Indeed, I do not dare to count or compare myself with certain men who are always recommending themselves. But they do not show good sense, because they do continue measuring themselves with one another and comparing themselves with one another.

1741

They had the men stand before them and repeatedly inquired of them, "By what sort of power and authority have you done this?"

1744

just as the original eyewitnesses who became ministers of the message

1745

When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were under the power of demons, and at a mere word He drove the spirits out, and cured all who were sick,

1746

So, as through one offense there resulted condemnation for all men, just so through one act of uprightness there resulted right standing involving life for all men.

1747

For just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.

1750

"To the messenger of the church in Ephesus write: 'The One who is holding the seven stars in His right hand and is walking among the golden lampstands speaks as follows:

1751

For people who make such a profession as this show that they are in search of a country of their own.

1752

His master answered him, 'You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reaped where I had not sown and gathered where I had not threshed.

1753

By your continuously bearing abundant fruit and in this way proving yourselves to be real disciples of mine, my Father is glorified.

1754

Meanwhile, a Jew named Apollos came to Ephesus. He was a native of Alexandria, a learned man, and skillful in the use of the Scriptures.

1755

Are you not saying, 'In four months more the harvest comes'? Look! I tell you, lift up your eyes and scan the fields, for they are already white for harvesting.

1759

For though I do still live the life of a physical human creature, I am not waging this war in accordance with physical human standards,

1760

When He broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!"

1762

And they came up and said to Him, "We know that you always tell the truth, and pay no personal consideration to anyone, but teach the way of God honestly. Is it right to pay poll-tax to Caesar, or not?

1765

When Jesus again had crossed in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about Him, as He was standing on the seashore.

1767

Then Jesus left there and slipped away to the neighborhood of Tyre and Sidon.

1771

As He was leaving the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, "Look, Teacher! What stupendous stones, what beautiful buildings!"

1772

Then a third angel followed them, saying in a loud voice: "Whoever worships the wild beast and his statue and lets his mark be stamped on his forehead or on his hand,

1774

Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, was it not in your name that we prophesied, and in your name that we drove out demons, and in your name that we did many wonder-works?'

1775

Do you not believe that I am in union with the Father and that the Father is in union with me? I am not saying these things on my own authority, but the Father who always remains in union with me is doing these things Himself.

1777

But He answered them, "Isaiah beautifully prophesied about you hypocrites; as the Scripture says: "'This people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far, far away from me;

1778

Now Stephen, full of grace and power, went on performing great signs and wonders among the people.

1782

twelve thousand from the tribe of Zebulon; twelve thousand from the tribe of Joseph; twelve thousand from the tribe of Benjamin.

1783

Now the promises were made to Abraham and his descendant. It does not say, "and to your descendants," in the plural, but in the singular, "and to your descendant," that is, Christ.

1784

Moses, indeed, said: 'The Lord God will raise up a prophet for you from among your brothers, as He did me. You must attentively listen to everything that He tells you.

1785

They have testified before the church to your love. You will please send them off on their journey in a way befitting the service of God.

1786

The man who is dependable in a very small matter is dependable also in a large deal, the man who is dishonest in a very small matter is dishonest also in a large deal.

1796

His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever He tells you."

1799

One man rates one day above another, another rates them all alike. Let every man be fully convinced in his own mind.

1800

But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

1803

And just as soon as He started to come up out of the water, He saw the heavens split open and the Spirit coming down like a dove to enter Him.

1804

but one of the soldiers thrust a lance into His side and blood and water at once flowed out.

1805

For as Jonah was in the whale's stomach for three days and nights, the Son of Man will be three days and nights in the heart of the earth.

1808

Peter said to her, "Tell me, did you sell the land for such and such a sum?" She answered, "Yes, that is it."

1810

This took place at Bethany on the farther side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.

1815

So the law has been our attendant to lead us to Christ, so that we might through faith obtain right standing with God.

1816

Do this in particular because you know the present crisis, that it is high time for you to wake up out of your sleep, for our salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.

1817

in this way it has become well known throughout the Imperial Guard and to all the rest here that I am a prisoner in the service of Christ,

1821

"So when you see the destructive desecration standing where he has no right to stand" -- let the reader take notice -- "then let those who remain in Judea fly to the hills;

1823

But Mary said to the angel, "How can this be, since I have no husband?"

1824

"You must never give the things that are sacred to dogs, and you must never throw your pearls before hogs, for fear they might trample them under their feet and turn and tear you to pieces.

1825

Jesus said to him, "Is it because you have seen me, Thomas, that you believe? Blessed be those who believe, even though they have not seen me!"

1826

speaking of it as he does in all his letters. In them are some things hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsteady twist to their ruin, as they do the rest of the Scriptures.

1828

Yes, indeed, though I am free from any human power, I have made myself a slave to everybody, to win as many as possible.

1829

So one's destiny does not depend on his own willing or strenuous actions but on God's having mercy on him.

1837

Then I looked, and there the Lamb was standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand people who had His name and the name of His Father written on their foreheads.

1838

but they went on from Perga and arrived at Antioch in Pisidia. On the sabbath they went to the synagogue and took seats.

1840

For it was not a sanctuary made by human hands, a mere copy of the true one, that Christ entered, but it was into heaven itself that He went, in order now to appear for us in the very presence of God.

1842

by the standard set by zeal, I was a persecutor of the church, and measured by the uprightness reached by keeping the law, I was faultless.

1843

One day while He was praying in solitude, His disciples were nearby, and He asked them, "Who do people say that I am?"

1844

On the first day of the feast of Unleavened Bread, the usual time for killing the Passover lamb, Jesus' disciples asked Him, "Where do you want us to go and get the Passover supper ready for you to eat?"

1846

And she said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said, "Neither do I condemn you. Go. Stop sinning from this point on."

1848

Eliud the father of Eliazar, Eliazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob,

1853

and to give rest to you who are being crushed with sorrows, along with us, at the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ from heaven, with His mighty angels

1854

I have much to say to you, but I do not want to write it with pen and ink.

1855

You are not greater than our forefather Jacob, are you, who gave us this well, and drank from it himself, with all his sons and flocks?"

1858

For if by one man's offense death reigned through that one, to a much greater degree will those who continue to receive the overflow of His unmerited favor and His gift of right standing with Himself, reign in real life through One, Jesus Christ.

1859

As soon as it was daylight, the high priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes; and the whole council, after binding Jesus, took Him away and turned Him over to Pilate.

1861

And through your union with Him you once received, not a hand-performed circumcision but one performed by Christ, in stripping you of your lower nature,

1862

You must clean out the old yeast, that you may be a fresh lump, as you are to be free from the old yeast. For our Passover Lamb, Christ, has already been sacrificed.

1864

Who is the notorious liar, if it is not the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is the real Antichrist, the man who disowns the Father and the Son.

1866

John said to Him, "Teacher, we saw a man using your name to drive out demons, and we tried to stop him, for he was not one of our followers."

1867

Or again, "I will become His Father, and He shall become my Son"? But when He brings again His first-born Son into the world, He says, "And let all the angels worship Him."

1869

Then He left there and went through the district of Judea and crossed the Jordan, and crowds of people again met around Him, and again He began to teach them, as His custom was.

1871

Then He said to His disciples: "Stop worrying, then, about life, as to what you will have to eat, or about your body, as to what you will have to wear.

1874

As He was walking along the shore of the sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting their nets in the sea, for they were fishermen.

1876

It was the law and the prophets until John, but ever since that time the good news of the kingdom of God has been proclaimed, and everybody has been taking it by storm.

1878

For during His human life He offered up prayers and entreaties, crying aloud with tears to Him who was always able to save Him out of death, and because of His beautiful spirit of worship His prayer was heard.

1883

They continued stoning Stephen as he continued praying, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!"

1888

Philip said to Him, "Lord, let us see the Father, and that will satisfy us."

1889

We have confidence in you through the Lord that you are now practicing the directions which we give you and that you will continue to do so.

1890

But the man who looks at the flawless law that makes men free, and keeps on looking, proving himself to be, not a forgetful hearer but an actual doer of what it requires, will be blessed in what he does.

1891

On the Sabbath He was passing through the wheat fields, and His disciples started to make a path by pulling off the wheat heads.

1892

The anointing of the Spirit which you received still remains in your hearts, and so you have no need that anyone should teach you. But just as that anointing of His teaches you about everything, and as it is true and no falsehood, and as it has taught you to do so, you must continue to live in union with Him.

1894

So off the disciples went; they reached the city, found everything just as He had told them, and they got the Passover supper ready.

1898

Then I saw another wild beast coming up out of the land. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon.

1899

But Mary stood just outside the tomb and kept weeping. So, as she was weeping, she stooped down and peered into the tomb

1903

Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and He said to the disciples, "Sit down here while I go over yonder and pray."

1904

You covet things, but cannot acquire them, and so you quarrel and fight. You do not have them, because you do not ask for them.

1906

'For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel in those days,' says the Lord; 'I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they will be my people. And nevermore will each one need to teach his fellow-citizen,

1907

He answered, "The man called Jesus made some clay and rubbed it on my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash them.' So when I had gone and washed them I could see."

1914

So I myself, brothers, could not deal with you as spiritual persons, but as creatures of human clay, as merely baby Christians.

1917

for when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we were going to be pressed with difficulties, and it took place, as you know.

1918

For the real Jew is not the man who is a Jew on the outside, and real circumcision is not outward physical circumcision.

1919

You Samaritans do not know what you are worshiping; we Jews do know what we are worshiping; for salvation comes from the Jews.

1921

After this He went out and saw a tax-collector named Levi in his seat at the tax-collector's desk, and He said to him, "Follow me."

1922

Then some Pharisees and scribes from Jerusalem came to Jesus, and asked Him,

1924

He also was saying: "The kingdom of God is like a man who scatters seed on the ground,

1928

Now He said to His disciples: "It is inevitable that snares to evil will come, but a curse be on the man through whom they come!

1929

It is on account of these very sins that God's anger is coming.

1931

There Paul had a vision one night: a man from Macedonia kept standing and pleading with him in these words, "Come over to Macedonia and help us!"

1932

After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind should blow on the earth, the sea, or any tree.

1933

For some of them practice going into people's houses and capturing weak and silly women who are overwhelmed with the weight of their sins, who are easily led about by all sorts of evil impulses,

1936

Everything is permissible for me, but not everything is good for me. Everything is permissible for me, but I will not become a slave to anything.

1937

Then He said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and look at my hands, and take your hand and put it in my side, and stop being an unbeliever, but be a believer!"

1940

Indeed, I do not understand what I do, for I do not practice what I want to do, but I am always doing what I hate.

1942

Indeed, when heathen people who have no law instinctively do what the law demands, although they have no law, they are a law to themselves,

1943

After this, Jesus went on moving about in Galilee; He would not do so in Judea, because the Jews were trying to kill Him.

1944

There are many other things that Jesus did, which, if they were all written down in detail, I do not suppose that the world itself could hold the books that would have to be written.

1945

Then He said to him, "Get up and go on your way. Your faith has cured you."

1947

Unlike the one that I made with their forefathers the day I took them by the hand to lead them out from the land of Egypt, for they did not abide by their covenant with me, so I did not care for them,' says the Lord.

1948

"Brothers, I may confidently say to you about the patriarch David, that he died and was buried, and that his grave is here among us to this very day.

1949

Then they asked Him, "Why do the scribes say that Elijah has to come first?"

1950

Then they reached Jerusalem, and He went into the temple and began to drive out of it those who were buying and selling things in it. Then He upset the money-changers' tables and the dove-dealers' counters,

1952

And they heard a loud voice from heaven say to them, "Come up here." And they went up to heaven in a cloud, and their enemies looked on as spectators.

1953

which He abundantly poured out upon us through Jesus Christ our Saviour,

1954

It became known to all the residents of Jerusalem, so that this piece of land was called in their language Akeldamach, that is, The Field of Blood.)

1955

But whoever speaks abusively against the Holy Spirit can never get forgiveness, but is guilty of a sin that has no end."

1958

The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. So He sought out Philip and said to him, "Follow me."

1959

There arose also among them a contention as to which one of them should rank as greatest.

1961

And each one went to his own house.

1963

So He was saying to them: "The harvest is plentiful, but the reapers are scarce. So pray the Lord of the harvest to send out reapers to His harvest-field.

1967

I am saying this to keep anyone from misleading you by persuasive arguments.

1969

Greet one another with a consecrated kiss. All the churches of Christ wish to be remembered to you.

1971

Then Jesus said to them, "Is it right on the Sabbath to do people good, or to do them evil, to save life or to take it?"

1973

And you will fold them up just like a robe, and they will be changed like the changing of one's coat, but you are the same, and your years will never cease."

1974

Then He went into a synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand.

1977

I solemnly say to you, whatever you forbid on earth must be already forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth must be already permitted in heaven.

1979

The next day, while those men were traveling on and not far from the town, Peter went up on the housetop about noon to pray.

1980

So, brothers, we are under obligations, but not to our lower nature to live by the standard set by it;

1981

Then He began to speak to them in stories. "A man once planted a vineyard and fenced it in and hewed out a wine-vat and built a watchtower; then he rented it to tenant farmers, and went abroad.

1984

for I did not get it from any man; I was not taught it, but I got it through a revelation given by Jesus Christ.

1985

For some of the things you bring sound startling to us; so we want to know just what they mean."

1991

For they have started out for His name's sake and so accept nothing from the heathen,

1993

One day He got into a boat with His disciples, and He said to them, "Let us cross to the other side of the lake." So they set sail.

1994

And in Hades he looked up, in constant tortures as he was, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus his bosom companion.

1997

that no one should do wrong and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord takes vengeance for all such things, as we told you before and solemnly warned you.

1998

Now as they led Him away, they seized a man named Simon, from Cyrene, as he was coming in from the country, and put the cross on his shoulders, for him to carry as he walked behind Jesus.

1999

When they reached the place called "The Skull," they crucified Him there; also the criminals, one at His right and one at His left.

2006

and that through union with Him every one of you who believes is given right standing with God and freed from every charge from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.

2008

But after His brothers had gone up to the feast, then He went up too, not publicly but, as it were, privately.

2009

So the Jews began to say to the man who had been cured, "It is the Sabbath, and it is against the law for you to carry your pallet."

2018

"To the messenger of the church in Philadelphia write: 'The Holy and True One, who carries the keys of David, who opens and no one can shut, who shuts and no one can open, speaks as follows:

2022

He will go before Him in the spirit and the power of Elijah to turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the upright, to make ready for the Lord a people perfectly prepared."

2025

we heard this voice ourselves borne from heaven while we were with Him on that sacred mountain.

2032

So, if I come, I will remind you of what he is doing, how with malicious insinuations he is talking about me. Not content with that, he refuses to welcome the brothers himself, he interferes with those who want to do so, and tries to put them out of the church.

2033

I tell you, He will give them justice and protection, and that without delay. But when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?"

2034

I was made very happy as a Christian to have your interest in my welfare revived again after so long; because you have always had the interest but not the opportunity to show it.

2035

For if somebody sees you, who have an intelligent view of this matter, partaking of a meal in an idol's temple, will he not be emboldened, with his overscrupulous conscience, to eat the food which has been sacrificed to an idol?

2037

because you have in everything been richly blessed through union with Him, with perfect expression and fullness of knowledge.

2040

As it was the day of Preparation for the Passover, that the bodies might not remain on the crosses during the Sabbath, for that Sabbath was a very important one, the Jews requested Pilate to have their legs broken and their bodies taken down.

2049

Although He was a Son, He learned from what He suffered how to obey,

2053

He said this, and after that He added, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going there to wake him."

2054

Now one of the criminals who were hanging from their crosses kept abusing Him, saying, "Are you not the Christ? Then save yourself and us too!"

2057

He said to them, "Who do you yourselves say that I am?"

2059

But I tell you not to resist the one who injures you, but if anyone slaps you on one cheek, turn him the other, too;

2064

He walked on a little farther and saw James, the Son of Zebedee, and his brother John; they too were in their boats getting their nets in order.

2065

And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax-collectors and notorious sinners?"

2068

For I tell you, brothers, the good news which was preached by me is not a human message,

2069

As for us apostles, men ought to think of us as ministers of Christ and trustees to handle God's uncovered truths.

2071

"Brothers, that Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit uttered by the mouth of David in the former times about Judas who became the guide to those who arrested Jesus;

2072

As I begged you to do when I was on my way to Macedonia, I still beg you to stay on in Ephesus to warn certain teachers

2077

And this is why He is the Mediator of a new covenant, in order that, after He had suffered death for securing redemption from the offenses committed under the first covenant, those who had been invited to share it might obtain the eternal inheritance promised them.

2078

But someone may say, "You have faith, and I have good deeds. Show me your faith without any good deeds, but I will show you mine by my good deeds."

2079

Some days after this Paul said to Barnabas, "Let us go back and visit the brothers in every town where we preached the Lord's message, to see how they are."

2081

Paul, an apostle sent not from men or by any man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father who raised Him from the dead --

2082

When they had plenty, He said to His disciples, "Pick up the pieces that are left, that nothing be wasted."

2085

Then they came to the place called Gethsemane, and He said to His disciples, "Sit down here while I pray."

2086

My father who gave them to me is stronger than all, and no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand.

2087

Then they came to Bethsaida. And they brought a blind man to Him and begged Him to touch him.

2093

Now some people were bringing even their babies to Him to have Him touch them, but the disciples, when they saw it, reproved them for it.

2098

"Also whenever you fast, you must not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they put on a gloomy countenance, to let people see them fasting. I solemnly say to you, they already have their reward.

2099

Symeon has told how God at first graciously visited the heathen to take from among them a people to bear His name.

2102

If you do not believe the earthly things I tell you, how can you believe the heavenly things, if I tell you about them?

2103

Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever pays no attention to you pays no attention to me, and whoever pays no attention to me pays no attention to Him who sent me."

2105

One day as He was teaching, there were some Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Him to cure people.

2118

So the dragon was enraged against the woman, and he went off to make war with the rest of her descendants, who continue to keep God's commands and to bear testimony to Jesus.

2119

But Jesus answered him, "The Scripture says, 'Not on bread alone does man live.'"

2121

But one of the fellow-guests heard this, and said to Him, "Happy will be the man who is fortunate enough to be at the feast in the kingdom of God."

2123

But before this faith came, we were kept locked up under the law, in preparation for the faith which was to be unveiled.

2127

"But in those days, after that misery, the sun will turn dark, the moon will not shed its light,

2132

Now we have not received the spirit that belongs to the world but the Spirit that comes from God, that we may get an insight into the blessings God has graciously given us.

2135

For just as by that man's disobedience the whole race of men were constituted sinners, so by this One's obedience the whole race of men may be brought into right standing with God.

2136

Then another angel came out of the temple and cried in a loud voice to Him who was seated on the cloud, "Put forth your sickle and reap, for the time to reap has come, because the earth's harvest is ripe."

2140

But thanks be to God, for He always leads me in His triumphal train, through union with Christ, and everywhere through me keeps spreading the perfume of the knowledge of Him.

2142

When they heard this, with one united prayer to God they said: "O Lord, you are the Maker of heaven, earth, and sea, and everything that is in them, and the One

2144

I hope to see you very soon and will talk it over face to face. Goodbye. Our friends wish to be remembered to you. Remember me to our friends individually.

2145

That slave who knows his master's wishes and does not get ready or act upon them will be severely punished.

2147

and that most of the Christian brothers have grown confident enough, because of my imprisonment, to dare to tell God's message without being afraid.

2149

And while they were gazing after Him into heaven, two men dressed in white suddenly stood beside them,

2150

so that they might search for God, possibly they might grope for Him, and find Him, though He is really not far from any of us.

2151

This suggestion was approved by the whole body, and so they selected Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, Philip, Procorus, Nikanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicholas of Antioch, who was a convert to Judaism.

2152

You brood of vipers! How can you, wicked as you are, say anything that is good? For the mouth talks about the things that fill the heart.

2153

There was also a prophetess there, Hannah, a daughter of Phanuel, who belonged to the tribe of Asher.

2156

I solemnly say to you, the present age will not pass away before all this takes place.

2158

Now several women were there looking on from a distance, among them Mary of Magdala, Mary the mother of the younger James and of Joses, and Salome,

2161

Always think of our Lord's patience as salvation, just as our dearly beloved brother Paul, with the wisdom granted him, wrote you to do,

2164

Now about the contribution for God's people, I want you to do as I directed the churches of Galatia to do.

2170

Now He looked up and saw the rich people dropping their gifts into the treasury.

2173

and He went out carrying the cross by Himself to a spot called The Place of the Skull, or in Hebrew, Golgotha.

2177

Then they said to each other, "Did not our hearts keep burning in our bosoms as He was talking to us on the road, as He went on explaining the Scriptures to us?"

2184

"For in this city they actually met against your holy Servant Jesus, whom you had consecrated -- Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the heathen and the peoples of Israel,

2185

But Peter said, "Never by any means, sir, for I have never eaten anything common, or not ceremonially cleansed."

2186

So then, since Christ has suffered in our physical form, you too must arm yourselves with the same determination. For whoever suffers in his physical form has done with sin,

2189

So we ought to show hospitality to such men, to prove that we cooperate with them for the truth.

2194

Then the apostles and elders in cooperation with the whole church passed a resolution to select and send some men of their number with Paul and Barnabas to Antioch. These were Judas, who was called Barsabbas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers.

2196

For if the dead are never raised, Christ has not been raised;

2197

This is the one who in the congregation in the desert went between the angel, who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and our forefathers, who also received, to be handed down to you, utterances that still live.

2198

He told them this story, as follows: "The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a mustard seed which a man took and sowed in his field.

2201

If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he will ask and God will grant him life; yea, He will grant it to any who do not commit a sin that leads to death. There is a sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that.

2202

And He answered him, "Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only One who is perfectly good. But if you want to get into that life, you must practice keeping the commandments."

2203

King Herod heard of Him, for His name was now on everybody's lips, and people were saying that John the Baptist had risen from the dead, and that this was why such mighty powers were working in Him.

2206

Then He went out of the city and up the Mount of Olives, as He was in the habit of doing; and His disciples, too, followed Him there.

2208

In every way you will grow richer and richer so as to give with perfect liberality, which will through me result in thanksgiving to God for it.

2209

But now you too must once for all put them all aside -- anger, rage, malice, and abusive, filthy talk from your lips.

2210

Now I want you to rest assured, brothers, that those things which have befallen me have actually resulted in the progress of the good news;

2211

Meanwhile as the people had gathered in tens of thousands, so that they were trampling upon one another, He began to say, first of all, to His disciples: "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, that is, hypocrisy.

2212

and how I outstripped many of my own age among my people in my devotion to the Jewish religion, because I surpassed all others in my zeal for the traditions handed down by my forefathers.

2214

But it is not that God's word has failed. For not everybody that is descended from Israel really belongs to Israel,

2215

Then He deposed him and raised up for them David to be king, to whom He bore this testimony, 'I have found in David, the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who will do all that my will requires.'

2217

But, as the case with Him now stands, He has entered upon a priestly service as much superior to theirs as the covenant of which He is the Mediator is superior to theirs, superior because it has been enacted upon superior promises.

2220

Then He went up on the hillside and summoned to Him those whom He wanted, and they went to Him.

2223

and those who have done good will come out for a resurrection to life, but those who have done evil for a resurrection to condemnation.

2225

For whoever keeps on bidding him good morning is sharing in his wicked works.

2226

The good man, out of his good inner storehouse, brings forth what is good, the bad man, out of his bad one, what is bad. For a man's mouth usually speaks the things that fill his heart.

2228

"What man among you, if he wishes to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate the cost, to see whether he has money enough to complete it?

2229

The children of your chosen sister wish to be remembered to you.

2231

When he knocked at the outer door, a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer it,

2237

When they were turned loose, the apostles went back to their companions and told them what the high priests and elders had said to them.

2241

Then one of the seven angels with the seven bowls came and spoke to me, saying: "Come, I will show you the doom of the noted prostitute who is seated on many waters,

2243

Above all, my brothers, stop swearing, either by heaven or by the earth, or by anything else. Let your "Yes" mean Yes, and your "No," No, so as to keep from falling under condemnation.

2245

Then His mother and His brothers came. They were standing outside and sent word to call Him.

2248

Now if we preach that Christ has been raised from the dead, how is it that some of you are saying that there is no such thing as a resurrection of the dead?

2249

Jesus heard it, and said to them, "Not well but sick people have to send for the doctor. It is not upright but sinful people that I have come to invite."

2250

Why do you keep watching the tiny speck in your brother's eye, but pay no attention to the girder in your own?

2251

But the man who has misgivings about eating, if he then eats, has already condemned himself by so doing, because he did not follow his faith, and any action that does not follow one's faith is a sin.

2253

Then Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah, for it is not man that made this known to you, but my Father in heaven.

2256

The woman answered, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You were right in saying, 'I have no husband,'

2257

One Sabbath He happened to be passing through the wheat fields, and His disciples were pulling and eating the heads of wheat, rubbing them in their hands.

2259

Then He said to them: "Suppose one of you has a friend, and you go to him in the middle of the night and say to him, 'Friend, lend me three loaves;

2261

Then they asked Him, "What must we do to perform the works that God demands?"

2264

has made us, though dead because of our shortcomings, live again in fellowship with Christ -- it is by His unmerited favor that you have been saved.

2271

So I want the men everywhere to offer prayer, lifting to heaven holy hands which are kept unstained by anger and dissensions.

2273

So let us fear that when the promise for us to be admitted to His rest is still remaining valid some one of you may be found to have missed it.

2277

I prize and praise you for always remembering me and for firmly standing by the teachings as I passed them on to you.

2278

Later on He appeared to the Eleven themselves while they were at table, and reproved them for their lack of faith and their stubbornness, because they had not believed those who had seen Him after He had been raised from the dead.

2280

Concerning this the Scripture says: "He led a host of captives, when He went up on high, and granted gifts to men."

2282

Whoever, therefore, breaks one of the least of these commands and teaches others so to do, will be ranked as least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices them and teaches others so to do, will be ranked as great in the kingdom of heaven.

2284

What special privilege, then, has a Jew? Or, what benefit does circumcision confer?

2289

When they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them and some scribes arguing with them.

2292

And He at once got into the boat and crossed to the district of Dalmanutha.

2296

But, O senseless man, are you willing to learn that faith without good deeds is worthless?

2301

So He who was seated on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was reaped.

2302

but when the sun came up, they were scorched and withered away, because they had not taken root.

2304

Now when I came to you, brothers, I did not come and tell you God's uncovered secret in rhetorical language or human philosophy,

2305

When Jesus heard this, He was astounded at him, and turning to the crowd that was following Him He said, "I tell you, I have not found, in a single case among the Jews, so great faith as this!"

2306

If you get forgiveness for people's sins, they are forgiven them; if you let people's sins fasten upon them, they will remain fastened upon them."

2309

However, you must stop rejoicing over the fact that the spirits are submitting to you, but continue to rejoice that your names are enrolled in heaven."

2311

But when he came out, he could not speak to them, and so they knew that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary. Meanwhile he kept on making signs to them, and remained dumb.

2314

For you will not forsake my soul to Hades. Nor will you let your Holy One experience decay.

2315

For the sorrow that comes in accordance with the will of God results in repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regrets, but the sorrow the world produces results in death.

2316

Now we charge you, brothers, on the authority of the Lord Jesus Christ, to hold yourselves aloof from any brother who is living as a shirker instead of following the teachings you received from us.

2320

Now about the foods that have been sacrificed to idols: We know that every one of us has some knowledge of the matter. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

2323

Then the Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Does not everyone of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or donkey and lead him out of the stable to water him?

2326

If you knew me, you would know my Father too. From now on you do know Him and you have seen Him."

2329

2330

Then He led them out as far as Bethany, and lifted up His hands and blessed them.

2332

"Again, you have heard that it was said to the men of old, 'You must not swear falsely, but you must perform your oaths as a religious duty.'

2334

Next day, while they were walking over from Bethany, He felt hungry.

2338

And from the days of John the Baptist until the present moment the kingdom of heaven has been continuously taken by storm, and those who take it by storm are seizing it as a precious prize.

2343

"To the messenger of the church at Sardis write: 'The One who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars speaks as follows: "I know what you are doing; you have the reputation of being alive, but in reality you are dead.

2344

because I do not keep my eyes on things that are seen but things that are unseen. For things that are seen are temporary, but things that are unseen are eternal.

2346

but we should write them to abstain from everything that is contaminated by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals, and from tasting blood.

2347

"Listen to another story. There was once an owner of an estate who planted a vineyard and built a fence around it, and hewed out a wine-vat in it, and built a tower, and rented it to tenant farmers, and then went abroad.

2353

I did not know Him myself, but the very One who sent me to baptize in water said to me, 'The One on whom you see the Spirit coming down and remaining, is the One who is to baptize in the Holy Spirit.'

2355

So he began to argue with himself, 'What am I to do, because I have nowhere to store my crops?'

2358

While they were going along the road, a man said to Him, "I will follow you wherever you go."

2361

Stop talking against one another, brothers. Whoever is in the habit of talking against a brother or of criticizing his brother is criticizing and condemning the law. But if you are in the habit of criticizing the law, you are not a practicer but a critic of the law.

2363

But Jacob heard that there was food in Egypt and sent our forefathers on their first visit down there.

2367

Now the main point in what I am saying is this: We have such a High Priest as this, one who has taken His seat at the right hand of God's majestic throne in heaven

2368

Even the prophets, who prophesied about the spiritual blessing meant for you, made careful investigations and persistent research about this salvation,

2370

So he ordered the chariot to stop, and Philip and the official both went down into the water, and Philip baptized him.

2372

For I lived in constant dread of you, because you are a stern man, you pick up what you did not put down, you reap what you did not sow.'

2375

I never shrank from telling you anything that was for your good, nor from teaching you in public and in private,

2376

(This man bought a piece of land with the money which he took for his treachery, and he fell there face downward and his body broke in two, and all his intestines poured out.

2377

But as to times and dates, brothers, you have no need of anyone's writing you,

2378

They stopped at Jason's house and tried to bring them out to the people. So, as they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the town magistrates, shouting, "These fellows, who have turned the world topsy-turvy, have come here too,

2382

They kept running after him, because for a long time he had thrilled them with his magical performances.

2383

At that time some people brought to Him a man under the power of demons, who was blind and dumb, and He cured him, so that the dumb man could talk and see.

As he traveled on he finally approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.

2402

in whom all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are stored up.

2403

Then I fell before his feet to worship him, but he said to me, "You must take care not to do that. I am only a fellow-slave of yours and of your brothers who hold to the testimony borne by Jesus. Worship God. For the testimony borne by Jesus is the inspiring spirit of prophecy."

2405

"I am a Jew, born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up here in this city, and carefully educated under the teaching of Gamaliel in the law of our forefathers. I was zealous for God, as all of you are today.

2406

He answered: "Listen, brothers and fathers. The glorious God appeared to our forefather Abraham while he was in Mesopotamia before he ever made his home in Haran,

2407

Then Jesus called them to Him, and said to them, "You know that those who are supposed to rule the heathen lord it over them, and their great men rule as despots over them;

2409

Then Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. No, indeed, I have not come on my own authority, but He has sent me.

2410

"A curse on you, you hypocritical scribes and Pharisees! For you bolt the doors of the kingdom of heaven in men's faces, for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you let those who are trying to do so go in.

2416

Then He insisted that the disciples at once get into their boat and cross ahead of Him toward Bethsaida, while He was sending the crowd away.

If anyone continuously comes to see you without bringing this teaching, you must stop welcoming him to your house and stop bidding him good morning,

2431

Because the time has come for judgment to begin at the household of God, and if it begins with us, what will the end be of those who are rejecting God's good news?

2432

when suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a terrific blast of wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting,

2433

It was already about noon, and darkness covered the whole country, and lasted until three o'clock,

2437

I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world now, but only for those whom you have given me, because they are yours --

2444

the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

So Jesus said to them, "When you lift the Son of Man (on the cross), you will know that I am the Christ, and that I do nothing on my own authority, but that I say exactly what my Father has instructed me to say.

2452

so that you became examples to all the believers in Macedonia and Greece.

2455

You must continue to love Him, although you have never seen Him, but because you do believe in Him, although you do not now see Him, you must continue to rejoice with an unutterable and triumphant joy,

2482

and to make clear how is to be carried out the trusteeship of this secret which has for ages been hidden away in God, the Creator of all things,

2483

Then a measuring rod like a staff was given to me, and I was told: "Rise and measure the temple of God and the altar, counting those who worship there,

2485

Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to make you stand in His glorious presence faultless and full of triumphant joy,

2486

And in His teaching He continued to say: "Beware of the scribes who like to go about in long robes, to be saluted with honor in public places,

Now I will give you my opinion on this matter. For this is for your interest, because you were not only the first to do anything about it, but the first to want to do so; you started it a year ago.

2490

But bring those enemies of mine here who did not want me to become king over them and slay them in my presence!'"

2491

Again the devil took him up on a very high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world, and their splendor,
