When he became conscious of his situation, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John who was also called Mark, were a large number of people had met and were praying.

2971

Then He began to speak to them, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled here in your hearing."

2974

Do you think that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not so at all, but rather discord.

2975

For some are born incapable of marriage, and some have been made so by men, and some have made themselves so for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let him accept it who can."

2976

Now if I with Beelzebub's help am driving the demons out, with whose help do your sons drive them out?

2979

Now in the distance He saw a fig tree covered with leaves, and He went up to it to see if He might find some figs on it, but when He got to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the time for figs.

2984

Although it was now evening, yet since it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath,

2988

Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, He set out for Galilee.

2992

For every time you eat this bread and drink from this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until He comes again.

2998

By faith Abel offered a sacrifice more acceptable to God than Cain did, for by it he was approved as an upright man, since God approved him for the offering he made; and by it he still continues to speak, though dead.

3001

And I might almost say, Levi too, who now collects the tenth, through Abraham paid the tenth,

3003

for you may be sure that such a man is crooked and sinful, even self-condemned.

3004

"What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep, and if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and continue to look for the lost one until he finds it?

3005

Because Paul knew that part of them were Sadducees and part of them Pharisees, he began to cry out in the council chamber, "Brothers, I am a Pharisee, a Pharisee's son, and now I am on trial for the hope of the resurrection of the dead."

3006

Yes, I repeat it, anything you ask for as bearers of my name I will do it for you.

3007

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our forefathers, has glorified His Servant Jesus, whom you yourselves betrayed and disowned before Pilate, although he had decided to set Him free.

3008

Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were keeping a fast. So some people came and asked Him, "Why do John's disciples and the Pharisees' disciples practice fasting, but yours never do?"

3010

Then a famine spread all over Egypt and Canaan, and with it great suffering, and our forefathers could not find the simplest food.

3011

And He asked her, "What do you want?" She answered Him, "Give orders that these two sons of mine may sit one at your right and one at your left in your kingdom."

3012

Then some of the Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection, came up and asked Him,

3022

When Jesus had finished this discourse, He left Galilee and went into the district of Judea that is on the other side of the Jordan.

3033

By faith Enoch was transplanted from earth, so that he did not experience dying; and he could not be found, because God had transplanted him from earth. For before he was transplanted from earth evidence was given him that he pleased God;

3034

for, if that had been the case, He would have had to suffer over and over again, ever since the creation of the world. But, as it is, once at the close of the ages He has appeared, to put away sin by His sacrifice.

3037

He will glorify me, because He will take the things that belong to me and tell them to you.

3041

For David did not go up to heaven, but he himself says: 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand,

3045

By our union with the Lord I have confidence in you that you will take no other view of the matter. The man who is unsettling you will certainly pay the penalty for it, no matter who it turns out to be.

3046

Now as the crowds continued to throng upon Him, He began to say: "This is a wicked age. It is looking for a spectacular sign, but none will be given it but the sign of Jonah.

3049

And at once the man was well, and picked up his pallet, and went to walking. Now it was the Sabbath.

3050

But when it was evening, His disciples came to Him and said, "This is a destitute place, and the day is over; send the crowds off to the villages to buy themselves food."

3051

So when Jesus learned that they were going to come and carry Him off by force to crown Him king, He again retired to the hill by Himself.

3052

But He said to them, "Give them something to eat yourselves." Then they said, "We have only five loaves and two fish, unless we go ourselves and buy food for all these people."

3055

Then Jesus found a young donkey and mounted it, doing as the Scripture says:

3058

So it was time for Elizabeth to bear a child, and she bore a son.

3060

and males too have forsaken the natural function of females and been consumed by flaming passion for one another, males practicing shameful vice with other males, and continuing to suffer in their persons the inevitable penalty for doing what is improper.

3061

When He reached the other side, in the district of Gadara, there faced Him two men, who were under the power of demons, who were just coming out from the tombs. They were such terrors that nobody could pass that way.

3063

who had once been disobedient, while God's patience was awaiting in the days when Noah was preparing an ark, in which a few people-- eight, to be exact -- were brought safely through the water.

3068

No one has ever seen God; yet if we practice loving one another, God remains in union with us, and our love for Him attains perfection in our hearts,

3085

But Jesus called them to Him and said, "You know that the rulers of the heathen lord it over them, and their great men rule as despots over them.

3087

My hope for you is well founded; because I know that just as you, brothers, are sharers of my sufferings, so you will be sharers of my comfort too.

3088

At that time some prophets from Jerusalem came down to Antioch,

3093

As they were walking along the road up to Jerusalem, Jesus was going on ahead of them, but they were dazed while those who were still following were afraid. Then again He took the Twelve aside and began to tell them what was going to befall Him.

3094

After a lengthy discussion Peter got up and said to them, "Brothers, you know that in the early days God chose among you that through me the heathen should hear the message of the good news and believe it.

3096

When Jesus reached there, He found that Lazarus had been buried for four days.

3099

As a skilled architect, in accordance with God's unmerited favor given to me, I laid a foundation, and now another is building upon it. But every builder must be careful how he builds upon it;

3102

Now when a workman gets his pay, it is not considered from the point of view of a favor but of an obligation;

3109

Then the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen from the sky upon the earth. To this angel the key to the pit of the abyss was given,

3111

But I certainly admit this as a fact that in accordance with The Way -- that they call heresy -- I continue to worship the God of my forefathers, and I still believe in everything taught in the law and written in the prophets,

3113

And why should I continue to mention more? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets,

3122

And the woman whom you saw is the great city that has dominion over the kings of the earth."

3125

I am writing to you, dear children, because for His sake your sins have been forgiven.

3126

to Titus, my genuine child in our common faith: be spiritual blessing and peace from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Saviour.

3132

for he looks and then goes off and at once forgets how he looked.

3135

For none of them was in want, for as many of them as were owners of farms or houses proceeded to sell them, one by one, and continued to bring the money received for the things sold

3136

and no spiritual utterance which disowns Jesus can come from God; it is the utterance of Antichrist. You have heard that it is coming, and right now it is already in the world.

3143

For false Christs and false prophets will announce themselves, and they will do signs and wonders to mislead, if possible, even God's chosen people.

3144

We know that no one who is born of God makes a practice of sinning, but the Son who was born of God continues to keep him, and the evil one cannot touch him.

3145

I have much to say to you about Him, but it is difficult to make it clear to you, since you have become so dull in your spiritual senses.

3147

The God of this people Israel chose our forefathers, and made this people important during their stay in Egypt, and then with an uplifted arm He led them out of it.

3149

If I am in sorrow, it is on behalf of your comfort and salvation; if I am comforted, it is for the comfort that is experienced by you in your patient endurance of the same sort of sufferings that I am enduring too.

3151

So whoever eats the bread and drinks from the Lord's cup in an unworthy way is guilty of sinning against the Lord's body and blood.

3152

"Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one of them, does not light a lamp and sweep the house, and look carefully until she finds it?

3155

Jesus said to His disciples, "I solemnly say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven.

3159

So from this moment on, I do not estimate anybody by the standard of outward appearances. Although I once did estimate Christ by this standard, I do not do so any longer.

3166

Then He glanced around at them all and said to him, "Put out your hand." And he did so, and his hand was at once completely restored.

3168

and one-third of all the living creatures in the sea perished, and one-third of the ships were destroyed.

3170

And as they could not get him near to Jesus, on account of the crowd, they dug through the roof over the spot where He was standing and let the pallet down that the paralyzed man was lying on.

3171

they had tails like scorpions with stings in them, so in their tails their power lay to injure men for five months.

3173

If the first handful of dough is consecrated, so is the whole mass; if the tree's root is consecrated, so are the branches.

3174

What are we to conclude? Are we to keep on sinning, because we are not living as slaves to law but as subjects to God's favor? Never!

3175

At twelve o'clock darkness covered the whole land and lasted until three in the afternoon.

3177

In those days when a great crowd again had gathered and they had nothing to eat, He called His disciples to Him, and said,

3178

Then I heard something like the shout of a great multitude and the roar of many waters and the peal of mighty thunders, saying: "Praise the Lord! For the Lord, our Almighty God, has now begun to reign!

3180

But these persons abuse everything they do not understand, and they are going to be destroyed by the very things they know by instinct, like the irrational animals.

3191

Then he answered, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced, even if someone rises from the dead.'"

3192

Yes, I now am speaking to you who are a part of the heathen peoples. As I am an apostle to the heathen peoples, I am making the most of my ministry to them, to see

3193

Out from the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder, while in front of it seven flaming lamps were burning; they were the seven spirits of God.

3195

Peter answered Him, "Lord, if it is you, let me come to you on the water."

3196

as the Scripture says, "I have made you the father of many nations." That is, the promise is in force in the sight of God in whom he put his faith, the God who can bring the dead to life and can call to Himself the things that do not exist as though they did.

3197

For up to the days of John all the prophets, and even the law, prophesied about it,

3199

It was about such men also that Enoch, the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied when he said: "See! The Lord comes with myriads of His people

3201

On arriving there they called the church together, and in detail reported to them all that God had done through them as instruments, and how He had opened to the heathen the door of faith.

3203

But I will show you whom to fear. Fear Him who, after killing you, has power to hurl you down to the pit; yes, I tell you, fear Him.

3205

Now as a great crowd was coming together and people were coming to Him from one town after another, He said by way of a story:

3208

"Then the master said to his slave, 'Go out on the roads and by the hedges and make the people come in, so that my house may be filled.

3211

But He kept silent and made no answer at all. So the high priest again questioned Him in these words, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?"

3212

"Now learn what the story of the fig tree means. Just as soon as its branches grow tender, and put forth leaves, you know that summer is near.

3213

and when Paul laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they began to speak in foreign tongues and to prophesy.

3216

Then the whole body of them arose and brought Him to Pilate.

3217

"Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea."

3220

He dropped to the ground; then he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?"

3234

you cling to what men hand down. You are fine teachers to cancel what God commanded, in order to keep what men have handed down!

3237

to be serious, pure, home keepers, kind, and subordinate to their husbands, so as not to cause God's message to suffer reproach.

3240

Then Judas, who had betrayed Him, as he felt condemned, in remorse brought back the thirty pieces to the high priests and elders,

3241

For if Joshua had really given them rest, He would not afterward have been speaking of another day.

3248

Meantime, my righteous servant will live by faith. But if a man draws back, my soul has no delight in him."

3249

And I am glad that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus have come to see me, because they have supplied what you lacked.

3250

Jesus heard that they had turned the man out of the synagogue; so He found him and said to him, "Do you believe in the Son of Man yourself?"

3251

For the third time Jesus asked him, "Simon, son of John, do you really tenderly love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus the third time asked him, "Do you really tenderly love me?" So he answered Him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I do tenderly love you." Jesus said to him, "Then feed my sheep.

3253

And there was a great deal of grumbling about Him among the crowds, some saying that He was a good man, and others that He was not, but was misleading the masses.

3254

The spiritual blessing of the Lord Jesus be with His people.

3255

Then He proceeded to say to the man who invited Him: "When you give a luncheon or a dinner, stop the social custom of inviting your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your rich neighbors, for they may invite you in return and so you will be repaid.

3259

They asked him to stay longer, but he would not consent.

3267

But as for you, you must not seek for others to call you 'Teacher,' for you have but one who is 'Teacher,' and you are all brothers.

3270

Because if anyone merely listens to the message without obeying it, he is like a man who looks in a mirror at his own face,

3274

So they picked them up and filled twelve baskets with the pieces that were left from the five barley loaves, which were more than the eaters wanted.

3284

When He took it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each with a harp, and golden bowls that were full of incense, which represent the prayers of God's people.

3285

A voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, kill something and eat it."

3287

Because the Scripture foresaw that God would bring the heathen into right standing with Himself on condition of faith, He beforehand proclaimed the good news to Abraham in the promise, "It is through you that all the heathen will be blessed."

3288

All who sin without having the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law.

3291

But the word of the Lord lives on forever"; that is, the message of the good news which has been brought to you.

3292

Jesus said, "Yes, I am, and you will all see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Almighty and coming in the clouds of the sky!"

3297

On her forehead was written a name with a symbolical meaning, "Mighty Babylon, the mother of prostitutes and of earth's abominations."

3298

But if it is by His unmerited favor, it is not at all conditioned on what they have done. If that were so, His favor would not be favor at all.

3299

And they dressed Him in a purple robe and made a crown of thorns and crowned Him with it,

3301

He answered them, "Elijah does come first and gets everything ready, but how is it that the Scripture says about the Son of Man that He will suffer much and be rejected?

3302

I will make him who conquers a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall never again go out of it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God, and my own new name.

3303

Christ has been parceled out by you! It was not Paul who was crucified for you, was it? You were not baptized in Paul's name, were you?

3305

So you too, when you do all that you are ordered to do, say, 'We are worthless slaves; we have done only what we ought to have done.'"

3309

For if, after men have escaped the corrupting ways of the world through a full knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they again become entangled in them and are conquered by them, then their last condition is worse than their former one.

3314

He came and took the book from the right hand of Him who was seated on the throne.

3318

Do we then through faith make null and void the law? Not at all; instead, we confirm it.

3319

At that time you will know that I am in union with my Father and you are in union with me and I am in union with you.

3326

"I know your pressing trouble and poverty, but still you are rich; I know how you are abused by those who claim to be Jews although they are not, but are only a synagogue of Satan.

3327

I have to keep on boasting. There is no good to be gotten from it, but I will go on to visions and revelations which the Lord has given me.

3332

but they could not cope with his good practical sense and the spiritual power with which he usually spoke.

3333

Now if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on law, and boast about God,

3336

If anyone hears my words and fails to keep them, it is not I that judge him, for I have not come to judge but to save the world.

3337

On the contrary, you practice wronging and robbing others, and that your brothers.

3339

who has been making this known from ages past.'

3340

But keep on storing up your riches in heaven where moths and rust do not make away with them and where thieves do not break in and steal them.

3341

So a strange awe seized the whole church and everybody who heard it.

3342

And He got into a boat, and His disciples went with Him.

3344

I mean this, that one of you says, "I belong to Paul's party," another, "And I belong to Apollos' party," another, "And I belong to Cephas' party," another, "And I belong to Christ's party."

3346

she was told, "The elder will be a slave to the younger."

3347

But Ananias answered, "Lord, I have heard many people tell of this man, especially the great sufferings he has brought on your people in Jerusalem.

3359

What is your duty, then? They will certainly hear that you have come.

3360

This is the second letter, dearly beloved, that I have already written to you, in both of which I am trying by reminders to stir up your unsullied minds

3366

Should we pay it, or should we not?" Now because He saw their pretense, He said to them, "Why are you testing me so? Bring me a twenty-cent coin to look at."

3367

spiritual blessing and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,

3370

Then the serpent made water, like a river, spout from his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with its torrent.

3371

except that in town after town the Holy Spirit emphatically assures me that imprisonment and sufferings are awaiting me.

3373

and before I went up to Jerusalem to see those who had been apostles before me, I retired to Arabia, and afterwards returned to Damascus.

3376

I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall in utter ruin, did they? Of course not! On the contrary, because of their stumbling, salvation has come to heathen peoples, to make the Israelites jealous.

3377

But if anyone is inclined to be contentious about it, I for my part prescribe no other practice than this, and neither do the churches of God.

3380

But because Jesus knew it, He left there. And many people followed Him, and He cured them all,

3385

Then the soldiers led Him away to a place inside the court yard, that is, of the governor's palace, and they called the whole battalion together.

3387

Many of them said, "He is under the power of a demon and is going crazy. Why are you listening to Him?"

3388

wild waves of the sea foaming up their own shame; wandering stars that are forever doomed to utter darkness.

3402

She instantly fell dead at his feet. When the young men came in, they found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

3412

Then they asked him, "Where is He?" He answered, "I do not know."

3417

After that I went into the districts of Syria and Cilicia.

3431

Then Joseph sent and invited his father Jacob and all his kinsmen, seventy-five in all;

3433

if it is for a good deed to a helpless man, or to learn how he was cured, that we are today being tried,

3434

People do not light a lamp and put it under a peck-measure but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all that are in the house.

3436

Then the messengers returned to the house and found the slave well.

3437

they were to go with plain sandals on their feet and not to wear two shirts.

3445

I have written briefly to the church, but Diotrephes, who likes to be first among them, refuses to listen to me.

3448

and screamed aloud, "What do you want of me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God's name, I beg you, do not torture me."

3451

If all the body were an eye, how could we hear? If all the body were an ear, how could we smell?

3457

At that very hour there was a great earthquake, and one-tenth of the city went down. Seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were stricken with awe, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

3459

They are blots on your love feasts while they feast with you, daringly caring for no one but themselves; rainless clouds swept along by winds; leafless trees that bear no fruit, doubly dead, uprooted;

3462

Even if I should judge, my decision is fair, because I am not alone, but there are two of us, I and the Father who has sent me.

3477

and so, in my case, the command which should have meant life turned out to mean death.

3479

And His fame at once spread in all directions all over that part of Galilee.

3487

But in your case, my dearly loved friends, even though we speak in such a tone, we are sure of better things, yea, things that point to salvation.

3499

And they brought Him one. Then He asked them, "Whose picture and title is this?" They answered Him, "Caesar's."

3505

Pray for me, for I am sure that I have a clear conscience, and in everything I want to live a noble life.

3517

But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and people treated him just as they pleased, as the Scripture says about him."

3518

Do you not remember that while I was with you I used to tell you this?

3519

Let everyone who has ears listen to what the Spirit says to the churches."'"

3530

They threw dust on their heads and wept and mourned, crying out, 'Alas! Alas for the great city where all who had ships on the sea grew rich from her great wealth! For in a single hour she has been destroyed.'

3540

The man went back and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had cured him.

3542

For I solemnly say to you, many prophets and upright men yearned to see what you are seeing, and did not see it, and to hear what you are hearing, and did not hear it.

3552

let him who is in the field not turn back to get his coat.

3553

For I am not overstepping my authority as though I should not reach you, for I was the very first to reach as far as you with the good news of Christ.

3554

They took the man who had been blind to the Pharisees.

3565

Continue to give these directions so that the people may be without reproach.

3573

He saved me from a death so horrible, and He will save me again! He it is on whom I have set my hope that He will still save me,

3575

Then another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle.

3576

In writing you this, I swear before God, I am telling you the solemn truth.

3577

He further told them to provide horses for Paul to ride, so as to bring him in safety to Felix, the governor, to whom

3580

So he released the man who had been put in prison for riot and murder, whom they continued to demand, but turned Jesus over to their will.

3583

But I was personally unknown to the Christian churches in Judea;

3584

Now while Peter was still at a loss to know what the vision he had seen could mean, the men who had been sent by Cornelius had asked for the way to Simon's house and had stopped at the gate;

3585

So he called together all the high priests and scribes of the people, and anxiously asked them where the Christ was to be born.

3586

Look at the Israelites in their practices. Are not those who eat the sacrifices in spiritual fellowship with the altar?

3587

For sin found its rallying point in that command and through it deceived me and killed me.

3593

So when Joseph awoke from his sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord directed him, and took her as his wife;

3594

but you say if a man tells his father or mother, 'Everything I have that may be of use to you is Corban,' that is, consecrated to God,

3610

you let him off from doing anything more for his father or mother;

3613

Keep urging the younger men to be sensible.

3617

Because there is only one loaf, so we, though many, are only one body, for we all partake of one loaf.

3618

Yes, the overscrupulous brother, for whom Christ died, is ruined by your so-called knowledge.

3623

Let me say again that no one must think that I am a fool, but if you do, please treat me like a fool and let me do a little boasting too, as other fools do.

3626

Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written!"

3632

But he said, "I have kept all these commandments ever since I was a child."

3635

When evening came, He went with the Twelve.

3642

spiritual blessing be with you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3644

So the report got out among the brothers that this disciple was not going to die. But Jesus did not tell him that he was not going to die; He said only, "If I wish him to wait until I come, what is that to you?"

3649

Then he took him by the right hand and lifted him, and his feet and ankles instantly grew strong,

3651

Happy the man whose sin the Lord does not charge against him!"

3652

they are secret backbiters, open slanderers, hateful to God, insolent, haughty, boastful; inventors of new forms of evil, undutiful to parents,

3653

and in this way fulfilled the saying spoken by the prophet Isaiah:

3654

in honor or dishonor, in slander or praise; considered a deceiver and yet true,

3663

For what I am writing you is nothing more than what you can read and understand, and I hope that you will understand it perfectly, just as some of you have come to understand me partially;

3666

so that I can preach the good news in the regions beyond you, without boasting in another man's sphere of work already done by him.

3668

Then he said, 'This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and in them I will store all my grains and my goods.

3669

So why are you questioning me? Ask those who heard what I told them. Of course, they know what I said."

3672

But He knew what they were thinking, and so said to them, "Any kingdom that is not united is in the process of destruction, and one house falls after another.

3686

Then He admonished the disciples not to tell anyone that He was the Christ.

3687

Then they approached the village to which they were going, and He acted as though He were going on farther,

3696

But if to keep on living here means fruit from my labor, I cannot tell which to choose.

3697

So the Pharisees said to one another, "You see, you cannot help it at all; the whole world has gone off after Him!"

3700

But we did not for a moment yield them submission, in order that the truth of the good news might prevail for you.

3703

who died for us, so that whether we still live or sleep we may live in fellowship with Him.

3705

Now finish doing it too, so that your readiness to finish it may be just like your readiness to start it, in accordance with what you have.

3708

only they kept hearing people say, "Our former persecutor is now preaching as good news the faith which once he tried to destroy,"

3709

Then the foul spirit convulsed him and with a deafening shriek got out of him.

3710

Some fell in rich soil, and came up and grew and yielded thirty, sixty, even a hundredfold."

3711

and they kept on praising God for me.

3712

For it is not the man who keeps on recommending himself who is really approved, but it is the man whom the Lord recommends.

3717

If others share this right with you, have we not a stronger claim? Yet, we have never used this right; no, we keep on bearing everything, to keep from hindering the progress of the good news of Christ.

3721

For there were about five thousand men. So He said to His disciples, "Have them sit down in reclining groups of fifty each."

3722

Yet it is a new command that I am writing you; it is true in Him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.

3723

So the men of faith are blessed as partners with trusting Abraham.

3725

So Jesus then told them plainly: "Lazarus is dead,

3728

and would not let anybody carry a vessel through the temple.

3733

May the Lord show mercy to the family of Onesiphorus, because he often cheered me and was not ashamed of the chains I wore.

3734

Indeed, we never resorted to flattery, as you are well aware, nor to any pretext for making money; God is our witness.

3740

But he said to Him, "Teacher, I have kept all these commandments ever since I was a child."

3743

Now the axe is already lying at the roots of the trees. Every tree, then, that fails to bear good fruit is to be cut down and thrown into the fire."

3744

I am thankful that I baptized none of you but Crispus and Gaius,

3757

And at the dinner hour he sent his slave to say to the invited guests, 'Come, for it is now ready.'

3759

And yet, for fear of the Jews, nobody dared to speak in public about Him.

3761

for he was a vital part of his forefather though yet unborn, when Melchizedek met him.

3764

If the foot says, "Since I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body," that does not make it any less a part of the body.

3767

how is the man who occupies the place of the illiterate to say "Amen" to your thanksgiving? For he does not know what you are saying.

3769

With his hand he motioned to them to be quiet, and then he told them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. He added, "Tell all these things to James and the brothers." Then he left them and went somewhere else.

3772

The Lord grant that he may find mercy at His hands on that day. And you very well know yourself how great were the services he rendered me at Ephesus.

3773

Then He went up to her, grasped her hand, and had her get up. The fever left her, and she began to wait upon them.

3779

and at once he leaped to his feet and started walking; then he went into the temple with them, walking, leaping, and praising God.

3785

Yes, I did baptize the family of Stephanas, too; I do not now recall that I baptized anyone else.

3786

By this means they excited the people, the elders, and the scribes, and so they rushed upon him, seized him, and brought him before the council.

3791

my persecutions, my sufferings, such as befell me at Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra, such as I endured but the Lord delivered me out of them all.

3792

And Simon's mother-in-law was confined to her bed with a fever. So they at once told Him about her.

3795

Do you not know that those who do the work about the temple get their living from the temple, and those who constantly attend on the altar share its offerings?

3802

If the Lord had not cut those days short, nobody would have escaped, but for the sake of the people chosen as His own He has cut them short.

3803

Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alpheus, Simon who was called the Zealot,

3804

Even while He was saying this, His opponents were blushing with shame, but all the people were rejoicing over all the glorious things that were being done by Him.

3808

But Jesus had spoken about his death. However, they supposed that He was referring to falling into a natural sleep.

3812

But Jesus said to them, "They do not need to leave here; give them something to eat yourselves."

3814

As He approached the gate of the town, look, there was being carried out a dead man, his mother's only son, and she was a widow! A considerable crowd of townspeople were with her.

3816

from that time waiting till His enemies should be made the footstool of His feet.

3822

For Jesus was saying to him, "You foul spirit, come out of him."

3823

If the ear says, "Since I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body," that does not make it any less a part of the body.

3843

So it is no surprise if his servants also masquerade as ministers for doing right, whose doom shall be in accordance with what they do.

3854

And thus they all continued to be astounded and bewildered, and continued to say to each other, "What can this mean?"

3858

and they cried in a loud voice: "Our salvation is due to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb."

3860

Then they said to me, "You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages, and kings."

3861

This took place three times; then all at once the thing was taken up into the sky.

3865

But the earth helped the woman, for it opened its mouth and swallowed the river which the dragon made to spout from his mouth.

3871

But she was agitated at what he said, and began to ponder what this greeting meant.

3876

But when he heard that, he was very sad, for he was surpassingly rich.

3878

and he was always craving to get a square meal from the scraps that fell from the rich man's table. Yes, the very dogs used to come and lick his sores.

3887

So He spoke to it and said, "Never again may anyone eat a fig from you!" And His disciples were listening to it.

3889

since He had received from God the title of a High Priest with the rank of Melchizedek.

3890

But He sighed in spirit and said, "Why do the people of these times ask for a spectacular sign? I solemnly say, no sign at all will be given them."

3893

Now you must do just what we tell you. We have here four men who are under a vow.

3896

and charged them not to publish Him,

3900

They came and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit,

3905

Certainly sin was in the world before the law was given, but it is not charged to men's account where there is no law.

3908

The deaconesses too must be serious, not gossips; they must be temperate and perfectly trustworthy.

3911

Wherever it seizes him, it convulses him, and he foams at the mouth and grinds his teeth; and he is wasting away. So I asked your disciples to drive it out, but they could not do it."

3913

He touched her hand, the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on Him.

3914

His disciples at the time did not understand this, but after Jesus was glorified, they remembered that this had been written about Him and that they had fulfilled it in His case.

3917

The grapes in the wine press were trodden outside the city, and blood streamed from the wine press until it reached the horses' bridles for a distance of two hundred miles.

3918

If a man is ready and willing to give, his gift is acceptable in accordance with what he has, not with what he does not have.

3920

I am speaking to sensible men; decide for yourselves about what I say.

3921

These words again led to a difference of opinion among the Jews.

3924

You know that everyone here who belongs to the Roman province of Asia has deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

3931

For he considered the fact that God was able to raise people from the dead; and so from the dead, in a figure, he did receive him back.

3932

No widow under sixty years of age should be put on this roll. A widow must have had but one husband,

3935

and brought them to the chiefs of the police court. They said, "These men are Jews; they continue to make great disturbance in our town

3936

Some fell among the thorn seed, and the thorns grew up and choked them out and they yielded no grain.

3938

By faith Jacob, when about to die, put his blessing on each of Joseph's sons, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.

3943

Now if in such a way you sin against your brothers and wound their overscrupulous consciences, you are actually sinning against Christ.

3944

And while they were sitting at table and eating, Jesus said, "I solemnly say to you, one of you, one who is now eating with me, is going to betray me."

3949

As certainly as God is to be trusted, my message to you has not been a "Yes" that might mean "No."

3954

whoever in this way continues serving Christ is well-pleasing to God and approved by men.

3961

of whom it had been said, "Through Isaac your offspring must be traced."

3971

He said to him, 'On the ground of what you say I will sentence you, you wicked slave! You knew that I was a stern man, that I picked up what I did not put down, and reaped what I did not sow.

3974

For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye than for a rich man to get into the kingdom of God."

3975

So he sent off to Macedonia two of his assistants, Timothy and Erastus, while he stayed on for a while in Asia.

3977

"Teacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man's brother died leaving a wife but no child, the man must marry the widow and raise up a family for his brother.

3979

And He continued to say to them, "Whenever you put up at a house, stay there until you leave that place.

3988

and do not presume to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our forefather? For I tell you, God can raise up descendants for Abraham even out of these stones.

3993

and yet anything that is exposed by the light is made clear to them, for anything that is made clear is light.

3994

So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, so that when I came back I could have collected my principal with interest.

4004

For through the test you get by doing this service you will continue praising God for your fidelity to your confession of the good news of Christ, and for the liberality of your contributions to them and all others;

4007

Now he is here and has authority from the high priests to put in chains all who call upon your name."

4011

Then He took the five loaves and two fish and looked up to heaven and blessed them, and He broke them in pieces and gave them to the disciples to pass on to the people.

4021

So now you know the power that is holding him back, that he is to be unveiled at His own appointed time.

4024

When all the people saw him walking about and praising God,

4032

Now it was on the Sabbath when Jesus had made the clay and caused the man's eyes to see.

4034

But you, dearly beloved, must remember the words that have already been spoken by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ,

4035

so as to keep anyone from saying that you were baptized in my name.

4038

The crowd that had been with Him when He called Lazarus out of the grave and raised him from the dead, kept on talking about it.

4040

let your message be wholesome and unobjectionable, so that our opponent may be put to shame at having nothing evil to say about us.

4046

And yet for your sakes it is very necessary for me to stay on here.

4048

But Peter, meanwhile, kept on knocking. So they opened the door, and when they saw him, they were astounded.

4052

I always thank my God every time I mention you in my prayers,

4054

The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man's, and the fourth was like an eagle flying.

4055

Then you will say, "Branches have been broken off for us to be grafted in."

4056

and to advocate practices which it is against the law for us Romans to accept or observe."

4065

the colonel ordered Paul to be brought into the barracks, and told them to examine him by flogging, in order that he might find out why they were crying out against him in such a way.

4075

The second woe is past. See! The third woe is soon to come.

4076

They said to her, "You are crazy!" But she persistently insisted that it was so. Then they said, "It is his guardian angel!"

4089

Now Jesus turned, and as He saw them following Him, He said, "What are you looking for?" They said to Him, "Rabbi," (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"

4094

For when a change in the priesthood takes place, a change in its law necessarily takes place.

4095

Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have turned over to Satan to be so disciplined that they will stop their abusive speech.

4096

for as long as that upright man was living among them, his upright soul, day and night, was always being tortured by what he saw and heard in their lawless actions --

4098

and I am glad for your sake that I was not there so that you may come to have real faith in me. But let us go to him."

4100

For I would venture to mention only what Christ has accomplished through me in bringing the heathen peoples to obedience, by word and by work,

4101

For I am going to show him how great are the sufferings he must endure for my name's sake."

4105

and said to Him, "Every bit of this I will give to you, if you will fall on your knees and worship me."

4109

But they all in the same attitude began to excuse themselves. The first one said, 'I have just bought a piece of land and I must go and look it over. Please excuse me.'

4111

For see what this very sorrow, suffered in accordance with the will of God, has done for you! How earnest it has made you, how concerned to clear yourselves, how indignant, how alarmed, how much it made you long to see me, how loyal to me, how determined to punish the offender! At every point you have cleared yourselves in the matter.

4115

Yes, when he got to Rome he took pains to look me up and finally found me.

4117

"Cease from fearing, Daughter of Zion; See, your King is coming mounted on an ass's colt!"

4120

And if we know that He listens to us in whatever we ask Him for, we know that we get from Him the things that we have asked Him for.

4122

that is, to go by you on my way to Macedonia, and then to come back to you from Macedonia, and have you send me on to Judea.

4124

Then Jesus said to the captain, "Go; it must be done for you as you have believed." And his servant-boy was cured that very hour.

4125

for if God did not spare the natural branches, certainly He will not spare you.

4126

Now since I am certain of this, I know that I shall stay on and stay by you all to promote the progress of your faith

4131

But you have it to your credit that you hate what the Nicolaitans are doing, as I do too.

4135

And a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores, had been laid at his gate,

4136

And each one teach his brother, saying, "Know the Lord," For all will know me, from the lowest to the highest.

4137

to execute judgment upon all, to convict all the godless of their godless deeds which in their godlessness they have committed, and of all the harsh things that godless sinners have said against Him."

4138

Those who were looked upon as leaders -- what they were makes no difference to me -- God pays no attention to outward appearances these leaders added nothing new to me.

4143

But thanks be to God, who kindles in the heart of Titus the same enthusiasm for you that I have;

4144

If they were all one part, how could it be a body?

4151

So why did you not put my money into the bank? In that case, when I came back I could have gotten interest on my principal.'

4152

that is, to understand that you have grounds for boasting of me just as I have for boasting of you, on the day of our Lord Jesus.

4156

These persons are grumblers, ever complaining about their lot. They live to satisfy their evil passions, their lips boast arrogant things, and they flatter others for personal gain.

4161

The planter and the waterer are one in aim, and yet each of us will get his own pay in accordance with his own work,

4164

But first He has to endure much suffering, and be disowned by this age.

4174

When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there.

4192

Before God who preserves the life of all His creatures and before Christ Jesus who in testifying before Pontius Pilate made His good profession, I solemnly charge you

4193

But Jesus answered, "You do not realize what you are asking for. Can you drink the cup that I am about to drink?" They answered, "Yes, we can."

4196

For I do not want it to be a relief for others and a burden on you,

4199

Yes, they have cheered my spirit, and yours too. You must deeply appreciate such men.

4211

Then the twenty-four elders who were seated on their thrones before God fell on their faces and worshiped God,

4212

For He of whom this is said became a member of a different tribe no member of which ever officiated at the altar.

4213

Now they had forgotten to bring any bread; that is, they had only one loaf with them in the boat.

4215

But, as it is, you boast of your proud pretensions. All such boasting is wicked.

4217

Then there were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder; then there was a great earthquake, an earthquake so great that none like it had ever been since man first existed on the earth.

4222

Are not they the ones who scoff at the beautiful name you bear?

4223

But as he bade them goodbye, he promised, "I will come back to you again, if it is God's will." Then he set sail from Ephesus.

4225

because they said to you, "In the last times there will be mockers who will live to satisfy their own godless passions."

4229

but it takes no real root in him, and he lasts only a little while, and just as soon as suffering and persecution come for the truth's sake, he at once yields and falls.

4231

and, 'They will bear you up on their hands, so that you will never strike your foot against a stone.'"

4234

And they did so, and made all the people sit down and recline.

4240

Then they demanded a king, and for forty years God gave them Saul, the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin.

4241

you must not be boasting against the natural branches. And if you do, just consider, you do not support the root, but the root supports you.

4244

They told him, "At Bethlehem in Judea, for this is what the prophet wrote:

4245

Where your forefathers found I stood their test, because they saw my works for forty years,

4247

So take the thousand dollars away from him and give it to him who has ten thousand.

4248

From now on I will tell you things before they take place, so that when they do take place, you may believe that I am the Christ.

4250

and saved the upright Lot who was constantly distressed by the immoral conduct of lawless men --

4251

Now if the old religious service which resulted in death, although its law was carved in letters of stone, was introduced with a splendor so great that the Israelites could not keep their eyes fixed on Moses' face because of the splendor that was fading from it,

4252

Then the upright will answer, 'Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and give you something to eat, or thirsty, and give you something to drink?

4258

For out of great sorrow and distress of heart, yes, while shedding many tears, I wrote you, not to make you sad but to make you realize that my love for you continues running over.

4259

But many who are first now will be last then, and last now who will be first then."

4262

So if God had given them the same gift that He gave us when we believed upon the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to try -- and how could I if I tried -- to thwart God?"

4266

Never in the slightest degree be frightened by your opponents, for such fearlessness will be strong evidence to them of their impending destruction, but to you a sure sign, and that from God, of your salvation.

4279

So they were discussing with one another the fact that they had no bread.

4280

and as he saw Jesus passing by he said, "Look! He is the Lamb of God!"

4285

For you know that, when later he wanted to get possession of the blessing, he was rejected, for he could find no opportunity to repent, although with tears he tried to get the blessing.

4289

When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they were terror-stricken.

4292

And all the people were utterly amazed when they saw Him, and ran up to Him and greeted Him.

4298

It was because of this confidence that first I planned to visit you, to give you a double delight;

4302

as you are practicing it toward all the brothers all over Macedonia. We beg you, brothers, to continue to live better and better;

4304

which will result in your joy; so that, through union with Christ Jesus, you may have more than sufficient ground for boasting about me, through my being with you again.

4305

But Simon Peter still stood warming himself. So they said to him, "You too are not one of His disciples, are you?" He denied it and said, "No, I am not."

4310

Are you satisfied already? Have you grown rich already? Have you ascended your thrones without us to join you? Yes, I could wish that you had ascended your thrones, that we too might join you on them!

4322

So neither the planter nor the waterer counts for much, but God is everything in keeping the plants growing.

4327

And if Satan is really disunited, how can his kingdom last? Yet you say that I am driving the demons out with Beelzebub's help.

4328

Very well, but it was for lack of faith that they were broken off, and it is through your faith that you now stand where you are. Stop your haughty thinking, rather continue to be reverent,

4329

because I continue to hear of the love and faith you have in the Lord Jesus and all His people,

4334

and recognized him as the very man who used to sit at The Beautiful Gate of the temple to beg, they were completely astounded and bewildered at what occurred to him.

4339

At the same time he was hoping to get money from Paul, and so he kept on sending for him and talking with him.

4341

obscure and yet well-known, on the point of dying and yet I go on living, punished and yet not put to death,

4344

Then a discussion came up between John's disciples and a Jew about purification.

4345

But his countenance fell at that command, and he went away in deep distress, for he owned a great deal of property.

4346

Even by saying this it was all that they could do to keep the crowds from offering sacrifices to them.

4352

So then, if food can make my brother fall, I will never, no, never, eat meat again, in order to keep my brother from falling.

4355

And if anyone asks you why you are untying it, you are to answer, 'The Lord needs it.'"

4356

But now, since Timothy has just come back to me from you, and brought me good tidings of your faith and love, and told me how kindly you remembered me and that you are longing to see me as much as I am to see you,

4357

saying: "Amen! Blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and strength be to our God forever and ever. Amen!"

4360

He said to them, "Come and you will see." So they went and saw where He was staying, and they spent the rest of the day with Him; it was about four in the afternoon.

4363

We never sought praise from men, either from you or from anyone else; although as apostles we could have stood on our official dignity.

4365

must have a reputation for doing good deeds, as bringing up children, being hospitable to strangers, washing the feet of God's people, helping people in distress, or devoting herself to any sort of doing good.

4371

But as it now is, there are many parts, but one body.

4373

Others said, "These are not the words of a man who is under the power of a demon. A demon cannot make the eyes of the blind see, can he?"

4381

You have put all things under His feet!" Now when He gave Him authority over everything, He did not leave a single thing that was not put under His authority. But as yet we do not see everything actually under His authority,

4388

Indeed, the very men who let themselves be circumcised do not themselves observe the law. But they simply want you to let yourselves be circumcised, so that they can boast of you as members of their party.

4392

since you are having the same struggle that you once saw me have and which you hear that I am still having.

4393

For at the haul of fish that they had made, bewildering amazement had seized him and all his men,

4394

But continue to seek His will, and these things will be yours besides.

4403

Just so the Lord has issued orders that those who preach the good news shall get their living out of it.

4406

And they brought the boy to Him. As soon as the spirit saw Him, it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and kept rolling over and foaming at the mouth.

4409

in this way amassing for themselves the riches that forever endure in the life to come, so that at last they may grasp the life that is life indeed.

4416

For whoever is admitted into God's rest himself has rested from his works, just as God did.

4417

For when these are forgiven, there is no more need of an offering for sin.

4418

So the crowds were asking him this question, "What then ought we to do?"

4421

and I pray that their sharing of your faith may result in their recognition in us of everything that is right with reference to Christ.

4422

Then the third angel blew his trumpet, and there fell from the sky a great star blazing like a torch, and it fell upon one-third of the rivers and the springs of water.

4424

They, too, should first be tested till approved, and then, if they are found above reproach, they should serve as deacons.

4425

The Jews were dumbfounded and said, "How can this uneducated man know the Scriptures?"

4429

These men who are trying to force you to let yourselves be circumcised simply want to make a fine outward show, only to keep you from being persecuted for the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.

4432

He continues to say: "I will never, never any more recall their sins and deeds of wrong."

4433

just as the Scripture says, "The man who gathered much did not have too much, and the man who gathered little did not have too little."

4437

Then all the angels stood around the throne, the elders, and the four living creatures, and fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,

4441

So when evening came, He and His disciples used to go out of the city.

4443

And they went to John and said to him, "Teacher, the man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan, to whom you bore testimony yourself, is baptizing people and everybody is going to Him."

4450

And because he could not pay it, his master ordered him to be sold, yea, even his wife and children and all he had, and payment to be made.

4451

Then He kept warning them by saying, "Look out! Keep on guarding yourselves against the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod."

4455

But whoever continues to hate his brother is in darkness and is living in darkness, and he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

4456

I am not going too far in my boasting, and actually boasting of other men's labors, but I am cherishing the hope that your faith may so continue to grow that through you my work within my sphere may be so enlarged as to run over,

4459

Celebrate over her, O heaven, you saints, apostles, and prophets too, because God has taken vengeance on her for you."

4464

And they all ate and had aplenty, and what they had left over was taken up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.

4465
