I thought this was a good idea, so I sent twelve men from among you, one from each tribe.

Then you responded to me and admitted, "We have sinned against the Lord. We will now go up and fight as the Lord our God has told us to do." So you each put on your battle gear and prepared to go up to the hill country.

You must fight until the Lord gives your countrymen victory as he did you and they take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them on the other side of the Jordan River. Then each of you may return to his own territory that I have given you."

You must appoint judges and civil servants for each tribe in all your villages that the Lord your God is giving you, and they must judge the people fairly.

Fathers must not be put to death for what their children do, nor children for what their fathers do; each must be put to death for his own sin.

Surely he loves the people; all your holy ones are in your power. And they sit at your feet, each receiving your words.
