These [are] the ones summoned from the community, the leaders of their ancestors' tribes; they [are] the heads of Israel's clans.

So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been designated by name,

And they got together all the people on the first day of the second month; and everyone made clear his family and his father's house, by the number of the names, from twenty years old and over.

Whenever the tent is ready for travel, the descendants of Levi are to take it down. When it's time to encamp, the descendants of Levi are to set it up. Any unauthorized person who approaches it is to be executed.

And the children of Israel did according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did they.

Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, with the ensign of their father's house: far off about the tabernacle of the congregation shall they pitch.

Judah’s military divisions will camp on the east side toward the sunrise under their banner. The leader of the descendants of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab.

"The tribe of Issachar is to encamp beside Judah. The leader of Issachar is to be Zuar's son Nethanel.

"Next is to be the tribe of Zebulun. The leader of Zebulun is to be Helon's son Eliab.

The total number in their military divisions who belong to Judah’s encampment is 186,400; they will move out first.

Reuben’s military divisions will camp on the south side under their banner. The leader of the Reubenites is Elizur son of Shedeur.

and his army as numbered totaled 46,500.

"The tribe of Simeon is to camp beside Reuben. The leader of Simeon is to be Zurishaddai's son Shelumiel.

"Next is to be the tribe of Gad. The leader of Gad is to be Deuel's son Eliasaph.

and his army as numbered totaled 45,650.

The total number in their military divisions who belong to Reuben’s encampment is 151,450; they will move out second.

Then the tabernacle of the congregation shall set forward with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camp: as they encamp, so shall they set forward, every man in his place by their standards.

Ephraim’s military divisions will camp on the west side under their banner. The leader of the Ephraimites is Elishama son of Ammihud.

and his army as numbered totaled 40,500.

"The tribe of Manasseh is to encamp beside them. The leader of Manasseh is to be Pedahzur's son Gamaliel.

"Next is to be the tribe of Benjamin. The leader of Benjamin is to be Gideoni's son Abidan.

The total in their military divisions who belong to Ephraim’s encampment number 108,100; they will move out third.
