O turn you unto my correction: lo, I will express my mind unto you, and make you understand my words.

My son, if you will take my words to your heart, storing up my laws in your mind;


So that your ear is attentive to [skillful and godly] wisdom,
And apply your heart to understanding [seeking it conscientiously and striving for it eagerly];

For, good teaching, have I given you, mine instruction, do not ye forsake.

My son! to my wisdom give attention, To mine understanding incline thine ear,

She never keeps her mind on the road of life; her ways are uncertain, she has no knowledge.

And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

Keep my commandments and live, and mine instruction, as the pupil of thine eye;

They are all true to him whose mind is awake, and straightforward to those who get knowledge.

Better is my fruit than gold, even fine gold, And mine increase than choice silver.


Wise men store up and treasure knowledge [in mind and heart],
But with the mouth of the foolish, ruin is at hand.

For his mouth of good sense, a man will be recommended, but he who is of perverse {mind} will be despised.

They that imagine evil in their mind, will deceive; but the counselors of peace shall have joy following them.

A good man shall enjoy the fruit of his mouth; but he that hath a froward mind, shall be spoiled.


Wisdom rests [silently] in the heart of one who has understanding,
But what is in the heart of [shortsighted] fools is made known.


The mind of the intelligent and discerning seeks knowledge and eagerly inquires after it,
But the mouth of the [stubborn] fool feeds on foolishness.


The heart of the righteous thinks carefully about how to answer [in a wise and appropriate and timely way],
But the [babbling] mouth of the wicked pours out malevolent things.

Unseemly in an unworthy man, is the lip of excellence, much more, in one of noble mind, the lip of falsehood.


A bribe is like a bright, precious stone in the eyes of its owner;
Wherever he turns, he prospers.

What helpeth it to give a fool money in his hand, whereas he hath no mind to buy wisdom?

Of the fruit of a man's mouth, shall his inmost mind be satisfied, with the product of his lips, shall he be satisfied.

The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?


Listen carefully and hear the words of the wise,
And apply your mind to my knowledge;


For it will be pleasant if you keep them in mind [incorporating them as guiding principles];
Let them be ready on your lips [to guide and strengthen yourself and others].

For, just as he hath thought in his own mind, so, he is: Eat and drink! he may say to thee, but, his heart, is not with thee.


Listen, my son, and be wise,
And direct your heart in the way [of the Lord].


Your [drunken] eyes will see strange things
And your mind will utter perverse things [untrue things, twisted things].

Keep in mind that wisdom is like that for your soul; if you find it, there will be a future for you, and what you hope for won't be cut short.
