In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

And the whole multitude of the people were praying outside at the hour of incense.

The angel went to her and said, "Hail, O highly favored one, the Lord is with you!"

But she was greatly troubled at his saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be.

And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with her husband seven years from her virginity,

And coming up at that very hour she gave thanks to God, and spoke of him to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
