Don't think you can say to yourselves, "We have father Abraham!' because I tell you that God can raise up descendants for Abraham from these stones!

"You are the salt of the world. But if the salt should lose its taste, how can it be made salty again? It's good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled on by people.

So go into the roads leading out of town and invite as many people as you can find to the wedding.'

He asked them, "Then how can David by the Spirit call him "Lord' when he says,

If David calls him "Lord', how can he be his son?"

You snakes, you children of serpents! How can you escape being condemned to hell?

and stated, "This man said, "I can destroy the sanctuary of God and rebuild it in three days.'"

"He saved others but can't save himself! He is the king of Israel. Let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.

So the demons begged him, "Send us among the pigs, so that we can go into them!"

The disciples were utterly amazed and asked one another, "Then who can be saved?"

But Jesus told them, "You don't realize what you're asking. Can you drink from the cup that I'm going to drink from or be baptized with the baptism with which I'm going to be baptized?"

They told him, "We can."

While Jesus was teaching in the Temple, he asked, "How can the scribes say that the Messiah is David's son?

David himself calls him "Lord,' so how can he be his son?" And the large crowd kept listening to him with delight.

because you'll always have the destitute with you and can help them whenever you want, but you won't always have me.

When he goes into a house, say to its owner that the Teacher asks, "Where is my room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?'

In the same way, the high priests, along with the scribes, were also making fun of him among themselves. They kept saying, "He saved others, but can't save himself!

Then Zechariah asked the angel, "How can I be sure of this, since I am an old man, and my wife is getting older?"

One day, while Jesus was in one of the cities, a man covered with leprosy saw Jesus and fell on his face, begging him, "Lord, if you want to, you can make me clean."

The scribes and the Pharisees began to argue among themselves, saying, "Who is this man who is uttering blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"

But Jesus told them, "You can't force the wedding guests to fast while the groom is still with them, can you?

He also told them a parable: "One blind person can't lead another blind person, can he? Both will fall into a ditch, won't they?

How can you say to your brother, "Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you don't see the beam in your own eye? You hypocrite! First remove the beam from your own eye, and then you'll see clearly enough to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

When the Lord saw her, he felt compassion for her. He told her, "You can stop crying."

As the day was drawing to a close, the Twelve came to him and said, "Send the crowd away to the neighboring villages and farms so they can rest and get some food, because we are here in a deserted place."

Suppose he answers from inside, "Stop bothering me! The door is already locked, and my children are here with us in the bedroom. I can't get up and give you anything!'

So if you can't do a small thing like that, why worry about other things?

"Sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor. Make yourselves wallets that don't wear out a dependable treasure in heaven, where no thief can get close and no moth can destroy anything.

So Jesus went on to say, "What is the kingdom of God like? What can I compare it to?

Again he said, "To what can I compare the kingdom of God?

After the homeowner gets up and closes the door, you can stand outside, knock on the door, and say again and again, "Lord, open the door for us!' But he will answer you, "I don't know where you come from.'

Then you will be blessed because they can't repay you. And you will be repaid when the righteous are resurrected."

Still another said, "I recently got married, so I can't come.'

"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, as well as his own life, he can't be my disciple.

Whoever doesn't carry his cross and follow me can't be my disciple.

Otherwise, if he lays a foundation and can't finish the building, everyone who watches will begin to ridicule him

"Or suppose a king is going to war against another king. He will first sit down and consider whether with 10,000 men he can fight the one coming against him with 20,000 men, won't he?

If he can't, he will send a delegation to ask for terms of peace while the other king is still far away.

In the same way, none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his possessions."
