And they put over His head His accusation, "THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS." Then are there crucified with Him two robbers, one on the right hand and one on the left. And those passing by were reviling Him, wagging their heads, and saying, "Thou Who destroyest the temple and buildest it in three days, save Thyself: if Thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross." Likewise also the high priests, mocking, with the scribes and elders, were saying, "Others He saved, Himself He cannot save! King of Israel is He! let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe on Him! He has trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now, if He desireth Him; because He said, 'I am God's Son.'" And the robbers, who were crucified with Him, were reproaching Him with the same thing. And from the sixth hour there came darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And, about the ninth hour, Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "My God! My God! Why didst Thou forsake Me?" And some of those standing there, hearing it, said, "This One is calling for Elijah. And straightway one of them, running and taking a sponge, and filling it with vinegar, and putting it on a reed, was giving Him to drink. But the rest said, "Let alone! Let us see whether Elijah is coming to save Him!" And Jesus, crying again with a loud voice, yielded up His spirit. And those passing by railed on Him, wagging their beads, and saying, "Aha! Thou Who destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days! save Thyself, coming down from the cross!" In like manner the high priests, mocking Him among themselves with the scribes, said, "He saved others; Himself He cannot save! Let the Christ, the King of Israel now come down from the cross, that we may see, and believe!" And those who were crucified with Him were reproaching Him. And, the sixth hour having come, there was darkness upon the whole land until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with aloud voice, "ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI!" which is, being interpreted, "My God! My God! why didst Thou forsake Me!" Luke 23:27-49

And there was following Him a great multitude of people, and of women, who bewailed and lamented Him But, turning towards them, Jesus said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for Me; but weep for yourselves, and for your children; for, behold, the days are coming in which they will say, 'Happy the barren, and the wombs which bore not, and breasts that gave not suck.' read more.
Then will they begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us;' and to the hills, 'Cover us;' for, if they do these things in the green tree, what shall be done in the dry?" And there were being led two others also, malefactors, with Him to be put to death. And, when they came to the place that is called "The Skull," there they crucified Him, and the malefactors; one on the right hand, and the other on the left. And Jesus said, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do!" And, dividing His garments among them, they cast lots. And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also were scoffing at Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself! if This is the Christ of God, the Chosen!" And the soldiers also were mocking Him, coming near, and offering Him vinegar, and saying, "If Thou art the King of the Jews, save Thyself!" And there was also an inscription over Him, "THE KING OF THE JEWS, THIS!" And one of the suspended malefactors kept reviling Him, saying, "Art not Thou the Christ? Save Thyself and us!" But the other, answering and rebuking him, said, "Do you not fear God, seeing that you are in the same condemnation? and we, indeed, righteously; for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds: but This Man did nothing amiss." And he said, "Jesus, remember me, when Thou comest in Thy Kingdom." And He said to him, "Verily I say to you, "To-day you shall be with Me in Paradise." And it was already about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land till the ninth hour, the sun's light failing. And the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And, crying with a loud voice, Jesus said, "Father, into Thy hands I commit My spirit." And, having said this, He expired. And the centurion, beholding what took place, glorified God, saying, "Truly This was a righteous Man!" And all the multitudes, coming together to this sight, viewing the things that took place, were returning, smiting their breasts. And all those acquainted with Him stood afar off, and the women who followed with Him from Galilee, seeing these things.

John 19:16-30

Then, therefore, he delivered Him up to them to be crucified. They took Jesus, therefore; and, bearing the cross for Himself, He went forth into the place called "Place of a Skull," which, in Hebrew, is called "Golgotha;" where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on each side, and Jesus in the midst. read more.
And Pilate wrote a title also, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, "JESUS THE NAZARENE, THE KING OF THE JEWS." This title, therefore, many of the Jews read; because the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, in Greek. The high priests of the Jews, therefore, said to Pilate, "Write not, 'The King of the Jews,' but that He said, I am King of the Jews." Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written." The soldiers, therefore, when they crucified Jesus, took His garments, and made four parts, to each soldier a part; and also the coat. And the coat was without a seam, woven from the top throughout. They said, therefore, one to another, "Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be; that the Scripture might be fulfilled, which says, 'They divided My garments among themselves, and upon My vesture did they cast lots.'" The soldiers, therefore, did these things. But there were standing by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. Jesus, therefore, seeing His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, saith to His mother, "Woman, behold your Son!" Then saith He to the disciple, "Behold, your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home. After these things Jesus, knowing that all things have now been finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, "I thirst." There was set there a vessel full of vinegar; so, putting a sponge full of vinegar on hyssop, they bore it to His mouth. When, therefore, Jesus received the vinegar, He said, "It has been finished;" and, bowing His head, He delivered up His spirit.

death » How death entered into the world

1 Corinthians 15:20-23

Romans 5:12-21

Therefore, as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin; and so death passed unto all men, for that all sinned; for until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not reckoned, when there is no law: but yet death reigned from Adam until Moses even over those who sinned not after the likeness of Adam's transgression, who is a type of Him Who was to come. read more.
But not as the trespass, so also is the free gift; for, if by the trespass of the one, the many died, much more did the grace of God, and the gift by the grace of the One Man, Christ Jesus, abound to the many. And not as through one that sinned, so is the gift; for, indeed, the judgment came of one trespass unto condemnation; but the free gift came of many trespasses unto justification. For, if, by the trespass of the one, death reigned through the one; much more shall those who receive the abundance of the grace, and of the gift of righteousness, reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. So, then, as through one trespass, the judgment came to all men unto condemnation; so also, through one righteous act, the free gift came to all men unto justification of life. For as, through the disobedience of the one man, the many were constituted sinners; so also through the obedience of the One, shall the many be constituted righteous. And the law entered, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace did super-abound; that, as sin reigned in death, so also might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

death » Why the body dies

Romans 8:10-11

And, if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness. And, if the Spirit of Him Who raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, He Who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will make alive your mortal bodies through His Spirit dwelling in you.

1 Corinthians 15:35-38

But some one will say, "How are the dead raised? and with what kind of body do they come?" Foolish one! that which you sow is not made alive, except it die; and that which you sow, you sow not the body that shall be, but a bare grain, it may be of wheat, or of some other kind; read more.

Colossians 2:20

If ye died with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as if living in the world, do ye subject yourselves to decrees,

Romans 6:2-11

It could not be! How shall we, who died to sin, live any longer therein? Or are ye ignorant, that all we who were immersed into Christ Jesus were immersed into His death? We were buried, therefore, with Him through the immersion into death; that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life. read more.
For, if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, we shall be also in the likeness of His resurrection; knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be brought to nought, that we should no more be in bondage to sin; for he that died has been justified from sin. But, if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him; knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dieth no more; death no more has dominion over Him. For the death that He died, He died to Sin once for all; but the life that He liveth He liveth to God. Even so reckon ye also yourselves dead, indeed, to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Romans 7:1-10

Or, are ye ignorant, brethren, (for I am speaking to those who know law), that the law has dominion over the man as long as he lives? For the married woman has been bound by law to the living husband; but, if the husband dies, she is loosed from the law of the husband. So, then, if, while the husband is living, she is married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress; but, if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man. read more.
Wherefore, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that ye might be joined to another??o Him Who was raised from the dead??hat we might bear fruit to God. For, when we were in the flesh, the passions of sins, which were through the law, were working in our members to bring forth fruit to death. But now we have been fully discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of spirit, and not in oldness of the letter. What, then, shall we say? Is the law sin? It could not be! But I had not known sin, except through law; for I would not know even coveting, if the law did not say, "You shall not covet;" but sin, taking occasion through the commandment, wrought in me all manner of coveting; for apart from law sin is dead. And I was alive apart from the law once; but, when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. And the commandment which was unto life was itself found by me to be unto death;
