There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zachariah, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

But if that servant says in his heart, My lord delays his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunk;

The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get out, and depart from here: for Herod will kill you.

And when one of them that sat at table with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.

And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hard it is for those that have riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

And as they heard these things, he proceeded to tell a parable, because he was near to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

He shall come and destroy these tenants, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.

When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilean.

And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.

And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly glad: for he was desirous to see him for a long time, because he had heard many things about him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.

And Herod with his men of war despised him, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.

And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death was done by him.
