And it came about that when he got near Jericho, a certain blind man was seated by the side of the road, making requests for money from those who went by.

Those who were leading the way were sternly telling him to keep quiet; but he screamed all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

Jesus said to him, “Regain your sight; your [personal trust and confident] faith [in Me] has made you well.”

Made an attempt to get a view of Jesus, and was not able to do so, because of the people, for he was a small man.

And running on before, he got up into a sycamore that he might see him, for he was going to pass that way.

And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

So he said, A certain man of high birth went into a far-away country to get a kingdom for himself, and to come back.

And when he came back again, having got his kingdom, he gave orders for those servants to whom he had given the money to come to him, so that he might have an account of what business they had done.

Because I was in fear of you, for you are a hard man: you take up what you have not put down, and get in grain where you have not put seed.

Why then did you not put my money in a bank, so that when I came I would get it back with interest?

[Jesus explained,] ‘I tell you that to everyone who has [because he valued his gifts from God and has used them wisely], more will be given; but from the one who does not have [because he disregarded his gifts from God], even what he has will be taken away.’

But as for those enemies of mine who were unwilling that I should become their king, bring them here, and cut them to pieces in my presence.'"

And it came about that when he got near Beth-phage and Bethany by the mountain which is named the Mountain of Olives, he sent two of the disciples,

"Go to the village facing us," he said, " and, when you get there, you will find a foal tethered, which no one has yet ridden; untie it and lead it here.

Then they brought it to Jesus, and after throwing their robes on the donkey, they helped Jesus get on it.

And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

They were saying, 'May the King who comes in the name [i.e., by the authority] of the Lord, be blessed. May there be peace in heaven and praise [to God] in the highest [i.e., may this praise reach to the highest heaven].'

And he said in answer, I say to you, if these men keep quiet, the very stones will be crying out.

If thou hadst got to know, in this day, even thou, the conditions of peace -- But, now, are they hid from thine eyes:

and they will level you to the ground, you [Jerusalem] and your children within you. They will not leave in you one stone on another, all because you did not [come progressively to] recognize [from observation and personal experience] the time of your visitation [when God was gracious toward you and offered you salvation].”

saying, "It is written, ??he house of God shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of robbers."

And it came to pass, on one of those days, as he is teaching the people in the temple, and proclaiming good news, the chief priests and the scribes, with the elders, came upon him,

And at the right time he sent a servant to the workers to get part of the fruit from the vines; but the workmen gave him blows and sent him away with nothing.

He shall come and destroy these husbandmen, and shall give the vineyard to others. And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.

And hearing it they said, God forbid. And he looked on them and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, this is become the head of the corner?

Then the scribes and the chief priests looked for a way to get their hands on Him that very hour, because they knew He had told this parable against them, but they feared the people.

So, after impatiently watching their opportunity, they sent spies who were to act the part of good and honest men, that they might fasten on some expression of His, so as to hand Him over to the ruling power and the Governor's authority.

And they were not able to get anything from these words before the people: but they were full of wonder at his answer, and said nothing.

Master, Moses said that if a man's brother comes to his end, having a wife, but no children, his brother is to take the wife, and get a family for his brother.

[Now] there were these seven brothers; the first one got married, but when he died he did not leave any children behind.

And Jesus said to them [i.e., the Pharisees. See Matt. 22:41], "How is it that they [i.e., the experts in the law of Moses. See Mark 12:35] can say that the Christ [i.e., God's specially chosen one] is the son of David?

For David himself said in the book of Psalms [Psa. 110:1], 'The Lord [i.e., God] said to my [i.e., David's] Lord [i.e., Jesus], sit at my right side

"Beware of the scribes who like to go about in long robes, and love to be saluted with respect in public places, and to have the front seats in the synagogues and the best places at banquets??47 men who eat up widows' houses and to cover it up make long prayers! They will get all the heavier sentence!"

Who take the property of widows and before the eyes of men make long prayers; they will get a greater punishment.

For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

As some were talking about the temple complex, how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, He said,

For I will give you words and wisdom, so that not one of those who are against you will be able to get the better of you, or to put you in the wrong.

At that time, those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are inside the city (Jerusalem) must get out, and those who are [out] in the country must not enter the city;

"Then [Note: This event answers to the "immediately" of Matt. 24:29, and suggests the next major event on God's calendar] there will be [supernatural] signs [evident] in the sun and moon and stars. And on earth [there will be] distress among nations; they will be perplexed by the roaring of the ocean's churning waves. [Note: Probably this is figurative language for highly agitated conditions on earth].

And all the people would get up early in the morning to listen to him in the Temple.

So he accepted the offer and started looking for a good opportunity to betray Him to them when the crowd was not present.

And they said to him, Where are we to get it ready?

"Listen," he answered, "when you have got into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into whatever house he enters;

and ye shall say unto the good man of the house, 'The master sayeth unto thee, Where is the guest chamber where I shall eat mine Easter lamb with my disciples?'

Then he will show you a large upstairs room that is furnished. Get things ready for us there."

So they went and found all as He had told them; and they got the Passover ready.

Then Jesus took a cup [Note: This was one of the cups partaken of during the Passover meal], and after giving thanks to God [for it], He said, "Take this and share it among yourselves,

Then He took a [small] loaf of bread, and after He had given thanks to God, He broke it and gave [pieces] to His apostles, and said, "This is [i.e., represents] my [physical] body which is [to be] given for you; continue to do this [i.e., eat it regularly] to remember me by."

And in the same way He took [another] cup, after the [Passover] meal, and said, "This cup is [i.e., represents] the New Agreement [i.e., between God and mankind] made by my blood, which is [to be] poured out for you.

For it will be done to the Son of man after the purpose of God, but unhappy is that man by whom he is given up.

so you can eat and drink at my table in my [coming] kingdom. [Also] you will sit on [twelve] thrones [See Matt. 19:28], judging the twelve tribes of Israel [i.e., judging God's people through their writings].

And he said to them, But now, he who has a money-bag, or a bag for food, let him take it: and he who has not, let him give his coat for money and get a sword.

And when He got there He said to them, "Pray that you do not give in [i.e., to the devil] under trials."

and He said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not fall into temptation.”

Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders who had come out to get him, "Have you come out with swords and clubs like you would against an outlaw?

And they arrested Him and led Him away, and brought Him to the High Priest's house, while Peter followed a good way behind.

And one of the wenches, as he sat, beheld him by the fire and set good eyesight on him, and said, "This same was also with him."

"Tell us if you are the Christ [i.e., God's specially chosen one]." But He replied, "You would not believe me if I [did] tell you [who I am].

Then the whole assembly got up and brought Him before Pilate.

And one of the evil-doers on the cross, with bitter feeling, said to him, Are you not the Christ? Get yourself and us out of this.

Then Jesus said to him, "Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise [Note: This is a place in God's presence, referred to as "the third heaven" (II Cor. 12:2-4), and where overcomers will be able to eat from "the tree of life" (Rev. 2:7)]."
