For this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.





According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.



Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Neither yield your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.



You shall not delay to offer the first of your ripe fruits, and of the outflow of your presses: the firstborn of your sons shall you give unto me.







That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,


Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as you have received of us how you ought to walk and to please God, so you would abound more and more.






Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and your stranger that is within your gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law: And that their children, who have not known anything, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live in the land which you go over Jordan to possess.


And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a skin of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.


And they brought young children to him, that he should touch them: and his disciples rebuked those that brought them. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Allow the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. read more.
And he took them up in his arms, put his hands upon them, and blessed them.





Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do you harm, because my soul was precious in your eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.






Let not your heart envy sinners: but be in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

And you shall eat before the LORD your God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstlings of your herds and of your flocks; that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.

That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that you might fear the LORD your God forever.














So that you incline your ear unto wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding;


Hear you, my son, and be wise, and guide your heart in the way.








And Samuel spoke unto all the house of Israel, saying, If you do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the foreign gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.


Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day.




And they told the king, saying, Behold Nathan the prophet. And when he was come in before the king, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and called after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.

Otherwise it shall come to pass, when my lord the king shall sleep with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon shall be counted offenders.



Therefore you must be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience's sake.






I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.




Sustain me with cakes of raisins, refresh me with apples: for I am sick with love.

Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm: for love is as strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: its flames are flames of fire, a most vehement flame.





Tell me, O you whom my soul loves, where you feed, where you make your flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turns aside by the flocks of your companions?


Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the wealth of his house for love, it would utterly be rejected.






Therefore I say unto you, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.


Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto your name give glory, for your mercy, and for your truth's sake.

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; for his mercy endures forever.

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: because his mercy endures forever. Let Israel now say, that his mercy endures forever. Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endures forever. read more.
Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endures forever.

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endures forever.


And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.

The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, you know very well.



[To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba.] Have mercy upon me, O God, according to your lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of your tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

Remember, O LORD, your tender mercies and your lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.

Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for your mercies' sake.


I will be glad and rejoice in your mercy: for you have considered my trouble; you have known my soul in adversities;





Not because we have not that right, but to make ourselves an example unto you to follow us.




So being affectionately desirous of you, we were willing to have imparted unto you, not the gospel of God only, but also our own souls, because you were dear unto us.


As you know how we exhorted and encouraged and charged every one of you, as a father does his children,



Nor of men sought we glory, neither of you, nor yet of others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.


They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.

And you shall make a plate of pure gold, and engrave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.








Do not drink wine nor strong drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations:












But I roughly treat my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.


I charge you before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that you observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.








And it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.



As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the foreigners shall submit themselves unto me.


And you shall not go aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.




And said unto them, you have kept all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you: You have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God.


Yours, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.

Hear, you that are afar off, what I have done; and, you that are near, acknowledge my might.



Fear you not me? says the LORD: will you not tremble at my presence, who has placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though its waves toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?



Let the sighing of the prisoner come before you; according to the greatness of your power preserve you those that are appointed to die;


To the only wise God our Savior, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.

Be exalted, LORD, in your own strength: so will we sing and praise your power.


And he read in it facing the square that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

Therefore go you, and read in the scroll, which you have written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD's house upon the fasting day: and also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities.

And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, You men and brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

When all Israel has come to appear before the LORD your God in the place which he shall choose, you shall read this law before all Israel in their hearing. Gather the people together, men, and women, and children, and your stranger that is within your gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law: And that their children, who have not known anything, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as you live in the land which you go over Jordan to possess.











Therefore whosoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him unto a wise man, who built his house upon a rock:



Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his leaders, even to Ben-hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethanel, and to Micaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah. And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tobadonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests. And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place. So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.


And these words, which I command you this day, shall be in your heart:

Therefore shall you lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.





And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:

Seek you from out of the book of the LORD, and read: not one of these shall fail, none shall lack her mate: for my mouth has commanded it, and his spirit has gathered them.


For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when you received the word of God which you heard of us, you received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually works also in you that believe.



They answered and said unto him, Are you also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee arises no prophet.










Therefore put away all filthiness and extreme wickedness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.




When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.


Now set your heart and your soul to seek the LORD your God; arise therefore, and build you the sanctuary of the LORD God, to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and the holy vessels of God, into the house that is to be built to the name of the LORD.

But if from there you shall seek the LORD your God, you shall find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.






Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he comes and rains righteousness upon you.


Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore.


In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.



Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish justice in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.










A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God.



He looks upon men, and if any say, I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not;



[To the Chief Musician. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of David.] I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked are before me.










If iniquity be in your hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in your tents.


And shall return unto the LORD your God, and shall obey his voice according to all that I command you this day, you and your children, with all your heart, and with all your soul;

And the children of Israel cried unto the LORD, saying, We have sinned against you, both because we have forsaken our God, and also served Baalim.

If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me;

Yet if they shall come to themselves in the land where they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplication unto you in the land of them that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have committed wickedness; And so return unto you with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away captive, and pray unto you toward their land, which you gave unto their fathers, the city which you have chosen, and the house which I have built for your name:



O Israel, return unto the LORD your God; for you have fallen because of your iniquity. Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we offer the sacrifices of our lips.


So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

If that nation, against whom I have spoken, turn from their evil, I will change from the evil that I thought to do unto them.


Therefore also now, says the LORD, turn you even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:


And I will wait upon the LORD, that hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope in him.

[To the Chief Musician, altaschith. A michtam of David; when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him.] Deliver me from my enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloodthirsty men. For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD. read more.
They run and prepare themselves apart from my fault: awake to help me, and behold. You therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to punish all the nations: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah. They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city. Behold, they bellow out with their mouths: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, does hear? But you, O LORD, shall laugh at them; you shall have all the nations in derision. Because of your strength will I wait upon you: for God is my defense.






[To the Chief Musician, to jeduthun. A Psalm of David.] Truly my soul waits upon God: from him comes my salvation.


It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.


Yea, in the way of your judgments, O LORD, have we waited for you; the desire of our soul is to your name, and to the remembrance of you.




My soul waits for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning: I say, more than they that watch for the morning.




Lead me in your truth, and teach me: for you are the God of my salvation; on you do I wait all the day.














Blessed is the man that hears me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.






And the Levite, (because he has no part nor inheritance with you,) and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your gates, shall come, and shall eat and be satisfied; that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hand which you do.

And you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite that is within your gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you, in the place which the LORD your God has chosen to place his name there.

When you reap your harvest in your field, and have forgotten a sheaf in the field, you shall not go again to get it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. When you beat your olive tree, you shall not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow. When you gather the grapes of your vineyard, you shall not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.



If any man or woman that believes has widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.



Let not a widow be put on the list under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man,
