it seemed good to me also, having carefully investigated all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus,

Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

And he asked for a writing tablet, and wrote, "His name is John." And they all marveled.

And even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

Jesus answered them, "Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him:

On another Sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught, and a man was there whose right hand was withered.

When the messengers of John had departed, he began to speak to the crowds concerning John: "What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy; but these have no root, they believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away.

Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.

As they were going along the road, a man said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go."

Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and greet no one on the road.

He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?"

And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live."

Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.

"And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?

It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.'"

And he said, 'A hundred measures of oil.' So he said to him, 'Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.'

Then he said to another, 'And how much do you owe?' And he said, 'A hundred measures of wheat.' He said to him, 'Take your bill, and write eighty.'

And as he went along, many spread their garments on the road.

and they questioned him, "Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man's brother dies, having a wife but no children, the man must take the wife and raise up children for his brother.

For David himself says in the Book of Psalms, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand,

And one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.

But from now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God."

And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.

And they said to each other, "Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked with us on the road, while he opened to us the scriptures?"

Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.
