"If you are God's Son, throw yourself down, for Scripture says- -'He will give his angels commands about thee, And on their hands they will upbear thee, Lest ever thou shouldst strike thy foot against a stone.'"

"Scripture also says," answered Jesus, "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.'"

Then Jesus said to him: "Begone, Satan! for Scripture says-- 'Thou shalt do homage to the Lord thy God, and worship him only.'"

You have heard that it was said--'Thou shalt love thy neighbor and hate thy enemy.'

You, therefore, should pray thus--'Our Father, who art in Heaven, May thy name be held holy,

Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done--on earth, as in Heaven.

This is the man of whom Scripture says--'Behold, I am myself sending my Messenger before thy face, And he shall prepare thy way before thee.'

For God said--'Honor thy father and mother,' and 'Let him who reviles his father or mother suffer death,'

Honor thy father and thy mother.' And 'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thou dost thyself."

'Say to the daughter of Zion--"Behold, thy King is coming to thee, Gentle, and riding on an ass, And on the foal of a beast of burden."'

His answer was: "'Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy Heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.'

The second, which is like it, is this--'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thou dost thyself.'

'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand, Until I put thy enemies beneath thy feet"'?

Again, a second time, he went away, and prayed. "My Father," he said, "if I cannot be spared this cup, but must drink it, thy will be done!"

It is said in the Prophet Isaiah--'Behold! I send my Messenger before thy face; He shall prepare thy way.'

For while Moses said 'Honor thy father and thy mother,' and 'Let him who reviles his father or mother suffer death,'

You know the commandments--'Do not kill. Do not commit adultery. Do not steal. Do not say what is false about others. Do not cheat. Honor thy father and thy mother.'"

And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.'

The second is this--'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thou dost love thyself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

David said himself, speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit-- 'The Lord said to my lord: "Sit at my right hand, Until I put thy enemies beneath thy feet.'"

"Now, Lord, thou wilt let thy servant go, According to thy word, in peace,

A Light to bring light to the Gentiles, And to be the Glory of thy people Israel."

And Jesus answered him: "Scripture says--'Thou shalt do homage to the Lord thy God, and worship him only.'"

And 'On their hands they will upbear thee, Lest ever thou shouldst strike thy foot against a stone.'"

But Jesus answered him: "It is said--'Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.'"

This is the very man of whom Scripture says--'Behold, I am sending my Messenger before thy face, And he shall prepare thy way before thee.'

His reply was--"'Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thou dost thyself.'"

"When you pray," Jesus answered, "say--'Father, May thy named be held holy, thy Kingdom come.

You know the commandments--'Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not say what is false about others, Honor thy father and thy mother.'"

Until I put they enemies as a stool for thy feet."'

"Father," he said, "if it is thy pleasure, spare me this cup; only, not my will but thine be done."

Then Jesus, with a loud cry, said: "Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit." And with these words he expired.

His disciples remembered that Scripture said--'Zeal for thy House will consume me.'

I know that thou always headrest me; but I say this for the sake of the people standing near, so that they may believe that thou has sent me as thy Messenger."

'Fear not, Daughter of Zion; Behold, thy King is coming to thee, Sitting on the foal of an ass.'

After saying this, Jesus raised his eyes heaven-wards, and said: "Father, the hour has come; honor thy Son, that thy Son may honor thee;

And the Immortal Life is this--to know thee the one true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou has sent as thy Messenger.

And now do thou honor me, Father, at thy own side, with the honor which I had at thy side before the world began.

I have revealed thee to those whom thou gavest me from the world; they were thy own, and thou gavest them to me; and they have laid thy Message to heart.

For I have given them the teaching which thou gavest me, and they received it, and clearly understood that I came from thee, and they believed that thou has sent me as thy Messenger.

I intercede for them; I am not interceding for the world, but for those whom thou has given me, for they are thy own--

Now I am to be in this world no longer, but they are still to be in the world, and I am to come to thee. Holy Father, keep them by that revelation of thy Name which thou has given me, that they may be one, as we are.

I have given them thy Message; and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world, even as I do not belong to the world.

Consecrate them by the Truth; thy Message is Truth.

Just as thou has sent me as thy Messenger to the world, so I send them as my Messengers to the world.

That they all may be one--that as thou, Father, art in union with us--and so the world may believe that thou hast sent me as thy Messenger.

I in union with them and thou with me--that so they may be perfected in their union, and thus the world may know that thou hast sent me as thy Messenger, and that thou has loved them as thou hast loved me.

O righteous Father, though the world did not know thee, I knew thee; and these men knew that thou has sent me as thy Messenger.

Yet only to do what thou, by thy power and of thy own will, didst long ago destine to be done.

Now, therefore, O Lord, mark their threats, and enable thy servants, with all fearlessness, to tell thy Message,

While thou stretchest out thy hand to heal, and causest signs and wonders to take place through the Name of thy holy Servant Jesus."

That our children have had this promise completely fulfilled to them by God, by his raising Jesus. That is just what is said in the second Psalm--'Thou art my Son; this day I have become thy Father.'

"I did not know, Brothers, that it was the High Priest," said Paul, "for Scripture says--'Of the Ruler of thy People thou shalt speak no ill'."

God must prove true, though every man prove a liar! As Scripture says of God-'That thou mayest be pronounced righteous in what thou sayest, and gain thy cause when men would judge thee.'

With no ground for hope, Abraham, sustained by hope, put faith in God; in order that, in fulfillment of the words-'So many shall thy descendants be,' he might become 'the Father of many nations.'

Scripture says-'For thy sake we are being killed all the day long, We are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.'

Nor, because they are Abraham's descendants, are they all his Children; but-'It is Isaac's children who will be called thy descendants.'

'Lord, they have killed thy Prophets, they have pulled down thy altars, and I only am left; and now they are eager to take my life.'

The commandments, 'Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet,' and whatever other commandment there is, are all summed up in the words--'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thou dost thyself.'

And that the Gentiles also may praise God for his mercy. As Scripture says--'Therefore will I make acknowledgment to thee among the Gentiles and sing in honor of thy Name.'

'Death has been swallowed up in victory! Where, O Death, is thy victory? Where, O Death, is thy sting?'

Now it was to Abraham that the promises were made, 'and to his offspring.' It was not said 'to his offsprings,' as if many persons were meant, but the words were 'to thy offspring,' showing that one person was meant--and that was Christ.

Indeed, the whole Law has been summed up in this one precept- -'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thou dost thyself.'

'Honor thy father and mother'--this is the first Commandment with a promise--'

For to which of the angels did God ever say-- 'Thou art my Son; this day I have become thy Father'? or again-- 'I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son'?

while of the Son he said-- 'God is thy throne for ever and ever; The scepter of his Kingdom is the scepter of Justice;

Thou lovest righteousness and hatest iniquity; Therefore God, thy God, has anointed thee with the festal oil more abundantly than thy peers.'

Again-- 'Thou, Lord, in the beginning didst lay the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

As a mantle thou wilt fold them up, And as a garment they shall be changed, But thou art the same, and thy years shall know no end.'

To which of the angels has God ever said-- 'Sit thou at my right hand until I put thy enemies as a stool for thy feet'?

Thou hast made him, for a while, lower than angels; With glory and honour thou hast crowned him; Thou hast set him over all that thy hands have made;

He says-- 'I will tell of thy Name to my Brothers, In the midst of the congregation I will sing thy praise.'

In the same way, even the Christ did not take the honour of the High Priesthood upon himself, but he was appointed by him who said to him-- 'Thou art my Son; this day I have become thy Father';

His words were-- 'I will assuredly bless thee and increase thy numbers.'

So I said, "See, I have come' (as is written of me in the pages of the Book), "To do thy will, O God."'

and then there is added-- 'See, I have come to do thy will.' The former sacrifices are set aside to be replaced by the latter.

of whom it had been said-- 'It is through Isaac that there shall be descendants to bear thy name.'

Yet, if you keep the royal law which runs--'Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thou dost thyself,' you are doing right;

'Worthy art thou, our Lord and God, to receive all praise, and honour, and power, for thou didst create all things, and at thy bidding they came into being and were created.'

And they are singing a new song--'Thou art worthy to take the book and break its seals, for thou wast sacrificed, and with thy blood thou didst buy for God men of every tribe, and language, and people, and nation,

saying-- 'We thank thee, O Lord, our God, the Almighty, who art and who wast, that thou hast assumed thy great power and reigned.

The nations were enraged, and thy Wrath fell upon them; the time came for the dead to be judged, and for thee to give the reward to thy servants the Prophets, and to the People of Christ, and to those who reverence thy Name--the high and the low alike--and to destroy those who are destroying the earth.'

They are singing the song of Moses, the Servant of God, and the song of the Lamb-- 'Great and marvelous are thy deeds, O Lord, our God, the Almighty. Righteous and true are thy ways, Eternal King.

Who will not reverence and praise thy Name, O Lord? Thou alone art holy! All nations will come and worship before thee, for thy judgments have become manifest.'
