'tis observable, even this religious sorrow which you had, what solicitude has it not wrought in you, what apologies, what indignation, what fear, what desire, what zeal, yea, what revenge! so that by your whole conduct, ye have shown your selves to be clear from guilt in this matter.

wherefore, my writing to you so severely did not proceed from any prejudice to him, that had done the wrong, or from favour to him that suffered wrong, but to show my conscientious regard to your welfare.

so that your comfort was no small satisfaction to me: yea, and I was the more exceedingly pleased for that cheerful tranquillity of mind which Titus received from the behaviour of you all.

this I did, to prevent any suspicion that might be rais'd from my having the management of so great a sum:

Do ye judge of things by the outward appearance? if any man is confident in himself, that he is Christ's, let him from himself conclude too, that as he is Christ's, even so are we.

don't neglect the gift you have, which was given you with the ministerial charge, when you receiv'd imposition of hands from the presbytery.

besides, having nothing to do, they get the habit of rambling from one house to another, and are not only idling, but prattle and intermeddle, and utter what is not decent.

If any one deviate from this doctrine, not adhering to the wholesome instructions of our Lord Jesus Christ, the true doctrine of piety,

which some having obtain'd, have revolted from the faith, and brought upon themselves variety of piercing pains.

and thereby deviated from the true principles of faith. grace be with you. AMEN.

to Timothy, my dear son, grace, mercy and peace from God the father, and from Jesus Christ our Lord.

Keep that form of sound doctrine you receiv'd from me, which consists in christian faith and charity:

the Lord grant he may obtain mercy from him in that day, for you know very well what services de did me at Ephesus.

As for you, my son, strenuously acquit yourself of the charge you have receiv'd from Christ Jesus.

he that enters into the service, disengages himself from civil affairs, that he may be acceptable to his officer.

Moses did not meet with greater opposition from Jannes and Jambres, than truth does from men so corrupted in their mind, and so adulterated in their faith.

as for these impious impostors, they will go on from bad to worse, seducing others, and deluding themselves.

and that from your infancy you were acquainted with the sacred writings, which point you the way to salvation, by believing in Christ Jesus:

and the Lord will deliver me from every malicious design, and preserve me for his heavenly kingdom. to him be glory to endless ages. amen.

not doating on Jewish Fables, and the tenets of men, that deviate from the truth.

who gave himself for us, to redeem us from all iniquity, and qualify us to be his peculiar people, passionately affected to virtue.
