And the answer pleased the children of Israel well, and they praised God, and did not intend to go against them in battle, to destroy the land which the children of Ruben and Gad dwelt in.

189

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Ruben, of Gad and of Manasseh, "This day we perceive that the LORD is among us, because ye have not done this trespass against the LORD. Now have ye delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the LORD."

190

And he brought the kindred of the Zerahites by householders, and Zabdi was caught. And he brought his household man by man, and Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah in the tribe of Judah was caught.

191

For the priests that bare the ark stood in the midst of Jordan, until all was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to say unto the people, according to all that Moses charged Joshua. And the people hasted and went over.

192

The king Taanach; The king of Megiddo;

193

The king of Madon; The king of Hazor;

194

And the coasts of Og, king of Bashan which was of the remnant of the Rephaim and dwelt at Ashtaroth, and Edrei;

195

And the borders of the children of Reuben was Jordan, with the country that lieth thereon. This is the inheritance of the children of Reuben in their kindreds, with the cities and villages pertaining thereto.

196

And in the low country they had Eshtaol, Zorah, and Ashnah;

197

The king of the country of Dor; The king of the nations in Gilgal;

198

The king of Kadesh; The king of Jokneam in Carmel;

199

And their coasts were Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the children of Ammon, unto Aroer that lieth before Rabbah;

200

and the king of Tirzah: All the kings together thirty and one.

201

Then Joshua built an altar unto the LORD God of Israel, in mount Ebal,

202

Then the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon gathered themselves together, both they and all their hosts and went up and besieged Gibeon, and made war against it.

203

Hazarshual, Beersheba, and Bazjothjah;

204

Then Joshua went from Makkedah, and all Israel with him unto Libnah, and fought against Libnah.

205

And it was told the king of Jericho, saying, "Behold there came men in hither tonight, of the children of Israel, to spy out the country."

207

Behold, when we come unto the land, thou shalt bind this purple threaden cord in the window, which thou lettest us down by. And thou shalt bring thy father, thy mother, thy brethren, and all thy father's household, even into the house to thee.

208

But the men of Gibeon sent unto Joshua unto the host to Gilgal, saying, "Withdraw not thy hands from thy servants, but come up to us: for all the kings of the Amorites which dwell in the mountains are gathered together against us."

209

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar Ed, because it is a witness between us, that the LORD is God.

210

And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them, that no breath was let remain. And burnt Hazor with fire,

211

And the LORD said unto Joshua, "Be not afraid of them: for tomorrow about this time I will deliver them all slain, before all Israel: and thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire."

212

and the LORD said unto Joshua, fear them not, for I have delivered them unto thine hand, there shall not a man of them stand before thee.

213

And the men took of their victuals, and counseled not with the mouth of the LORD.

214

Hazargaddah, Heshmon, and Bethpelet;

215

These are the kings of the country which Joshua and the children of Israel smote on this side Jordan, westward, from Baalgad in the valley of Lebanon, even unto mount Halak that goeth up to Seir. And Joshua gave the land unto the tribes of Israel to possess, to every man his part;

216

and unto the Canaanites both by east and west: and unto the Amorites, Hittites, Perezites, and Jebusites in the mountains; and unto the Hivites under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh:

217

And Joshua took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the tongue of gold, and his sons and his daughters, his oxen, asses, sheep, his tent and all that he had, and all Israel with him, and brought them unto the valley of Achor.

218

And even so if thou utter these our words, we will be quit of thy oath which thou hast made us swear."

219

And Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them, to save their lives: and the lords of the congregation sware unto them.

220

And the LORD said unto Joshua, "Fear not, nor dread: but take all the men of war with thee, and up and get thee to Ai. Behold, I have given into thy hand, the king of Ai, and his people, his city and his land.

221

And Achan answered Joshua, and said, "Of a truth I have sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and so and so have I done.

222

Zela, Haeleph, and the city of the Jebusites, which is Jerusalem; Gibeah, and Kiriathjearim: Fourteen cities with their villages. This is the inheritance of the children of Benjamin in their kindreds.

223

Sihon king of the Amorites that dwelt in Heshbon, and ruled from Aroer, which lieth on the brim of the river of Arnon, and to the middle of the river, and half Gilead unto the river Jabbok, the border of the children of Ammon;

224

About forty thousand, trimmed for war, went before the LORD unto battle; even unto the wild fields of Jericho.

225

And she said, "According unto your words, so be it." And so sent them away, and they departed. And she bound the purple cord in the window.

226

And then whosoever go out at the doors of thy house, into the street, his blood shall be upon his own head, and we guiltless. And whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood be upon our heads if any man's hand be upon him:

227

Amam, Shema, and Moladah;

228

and unto the kings that are by north in the mountains and plains, on the south side of Chinnereth, and in the low countries, and in the regions of Dor upon the sea;

229

And in the plain unto the sea of Chinnereth eastward, and unto the sea in the plain called the salt sea eastward, the way to Bethjeshimoth and by south under the springs of Pisgah.

230

This is the inheritance of the children of Gad in their kindreds, the cities with their villages.

231

And all these kings met together, and came and pitched together upon the water of Merom, for to fight with Israel.

232

And they departed and got them into the mountains, and there abode three days until the pursuers were returned. And the pursuers sought throughout all the way and found them not.

233

When all the people were clean over, then went over the ark of the LORD, and also the priests before the people.

234

The king of Jarmuth; the king of Lachish;

235

and commanded the people, saying, "When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests that are Levites bearing it: then depart ye from your places and follow after it.

236

For the children of Israel took their journey and came unto their cities the third day: and their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth and Kiriathjearim.

237

And the LORD delivered them into the hands of Israel: and they smote them and chased them, into great Sidon, and unto the hot waters, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward: and smote them until they had none remaining of them.

238

And Joshua came unto them suddenly, and journeyed from Gilgal all night.

239

"Come up unto me and help me, that we may smite Gibeon: for they have made peace with Joshua and the children of Israel."

240

in the upper land, and nether land, in plains, and springs of water, in the wilderness, and south country the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perezites, the Hivites and the Jebusites:

241

And when all the kings that dwell on this side Jordan, in the hills and valleys, and along by all the coasts of the great sea even unto Lebanon - the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perezites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites - heard,

242

And the people came up out of Jordan the tenth day of the first month and pitched in Gilgal even in the east borders of Jericho.

243

And Joshua came, and all the men of war with him, against them: unto the water of Merom, suddenly, and fell upon them.

244

and reigned in mount Hermon, and in Salecah, and throughout all Bashan, unto the borders, of the Geshurites, and the Maacathites and half Gilead, unto the borders of Sihon king of Heshbon.

245

And the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh went before the children of Israel, armed, as Moses charged them.

246

Aijalon with her suburbs, and Gathrimmon with her Suburbs: Four cities.

247

that all the people of the world may know the hand of the LORD how mighty it is, and that ye might fear the LORD your God forever."

248

Baalah, Iim, and Ezem;

249

Moses the servant of the LORD and the children of Israel smote them, and Moses the servant of the LORD, gave their lands a possession, unto the Reubenites, Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh.

250

And Joshua served them as the LORD bade him, houghed their horses and burnt their chariots with fire.

251

And after three days the officers went throughout the host,

252

And the two men returned and descended from the mountain and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun, and told him all that had chanced them.

253

which came out, and all their hosts with them, a multitude of folk even as the sands of the sea in number with horses and chariots exceeding many.

254

And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem, for a hundredth pieces of silver, which parcel became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.

255

Jarmuth, Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah;

256

The king of Eglon; The king of Gezer;

257

And she said, "Give me a blessing: for thou hast given me a southward and dry land: give me also springs of water." Then he gave her springs of water, both above and beneath.

258

And Joshua ascended from Gilgal, both he and all the people of war with him, and all the men of might,

259

And the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,

260

And they said unto Joshua, "The LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land, for all the inhabiters of the country faint for fear of us."

261

So that there was not a man left in Ai, or in Bethel, that went not out after Israel. And they left the city open and followed after Israel.

262

And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein. Only the silver, the gold, and the things of brass and iron they put unto the treasure of the house of the LORD.

263

Then Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two spies, secretly, saying, "Go and view the land and also Jericho." And they went, and came unto a harlot's house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

264

Rekem, Irpeel and Taralah,

265

Then Joshua said to the two men that went to spy out the country: go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence, both the woman and all that pertaineth to her, as ye sware to her.

266

And the twelve stones which they took out of Jordan, Joshua pitched in Gilgal.

267

And the sun abode, and the moon stood still, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of the righteous, how that the sun abode in the midst of heaven and hasted not to go down by the space of a whole day?

268

And out of the tribe of Dan: Eltekeh with her suburbs; Gibbethon with her suburbs;

269

The king of Jericho; The king of Ai beside Bethel;

270

And they cast upon him a great heap of stones that remaineth unto this day. And so the LORD turned from his fierce wrath. Wherefore the name of the place is called the valley of Achor unto this day.

271

For the LORD your God dried up the water of Jordan before you, until ye were over, as the LORD your God did unto the reed sea, which he dried up before us till we were over;

272

And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot, and her father's household and all that pertained unto her, and she dwelt in Israel - even unto this day - because she hid the messengers which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

273

And the children of Israel slew them not, because the lords of the congregation had sworn unto them by the LORD God of Israel. And therefore all the multitude murmured against the lords.

274

And Joshua the son of Nun called unto the priests, and said unto them, "Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the LORD."

275

That day, the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel. And they feared him, as they feared Moses all the days of his life.

276

And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, "When your children ask you in time to come saying, 'What mean these stones?'

277

And when the men of Ai looked back after them and saw, behold, the smoke of the city ascended up to heaven. And they had no place to flee either this way or that, for the people that fled to the wilderness turned back again upon the followers.

278

The king of Jerusalem; The king of Hebron;

279

as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, according as it is written in the book of the law of Moses: an altar of rough stone over which no tool of iron was lifted. And they sacrificed thereon burnt sacrifice, and offered peace offerings.

280

And the lyers-await rose quickly out of their places, and ran, as soon as Joshua had stretched out his hand, and they entered into the city, and took it, and hasted and set it on fire.

281

Then Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai which is beside Bethaven, on the east side of Bethel, and spake unto them, saying, "Get you up and view the country." And the men went up and spied out Ai,

282

And Joshua made him knives of stone and circumcised the children of Israel in the hill of foreskins.

283

And the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame was heard, throughout all lands.

284

And when the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD were ascended out of Jordan - as soon as the soles of the priests' feet were brought to dry land - the water of Jordan returned again to his place and went over all his banks as he did before.

285

And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. And the seventh day, ye shall compass the city seven times and the priests shall blow with their trumpets.

286

And the LORD said unto Joshua, "Behold, I have given into thine hand, Jericho and her king and the men of war.

287

And they took them out of the midst of his tent and brought them unto Joshua and unto all the children of Israel, and poured them out before the LORD.

288

And Joshua commanded the priests, saying, "Ascend up out of Jordan."

289

"Take you twelve men out of the people, of every tribe a man.

290

Now all the people that came out were circumcised. But all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way after they came out of Egypt, they circumcised not.

291

"Command the priests that bear the ark of witness to come up out of Jordan."

292

Above all things, be strong and harden thyself, to observe and to do according to all the laws which Moses my servant commanded thee. Turn there from neither to the righthand, nor to the left: that thou mayest have understanding in all thou takest in hand.

293

But three days after they had made peace with them, they heard that they were neighbours unto them, and that they dwelt among them.

294

And this is the cause why Joshua circumcised. All the people that came out of Egypt that were males, all that were men of war, died in the wilderness by the way after they came out of Egypt.

295

And command you them, saying, 'Take you hence out of the midst of Jordan, even out of the place where the priests stood in a readiness, twelve stones. And take ye them away with you and put them in the place where you lodge at night.'"

296

And the king of Ai he hanged on tree, until evening. And as soon as the sun was down, Joshua commanded and they took the carcass down off the tree, and cast it in the entering of the gate of the city, and cast thereon a great heap of stones, that remaineth unto this day.

297

And then Joshua sent messengers which ran unto the tent. And behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver thereunder.

298

But when the Inhabiters of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done unto Jericho, and Ai,

299

And when there is a long blast blown with the ram's horn, as soon as ye hear the sound of the horn, let all the people shout a mighty shout. And then shall the walls of the city fall down, and the people shall ascend up, every man straight before him."

300

And the king of Ai they took alive and brought him to Joshua.

301

And the young men that were spies went in and brought out Rahab, and her father, and mother, and all the brethren and all that she had. And they brought out all her household and put them without the host of Israel.

302

And Joshua set Ai on fire and made it a heap forever and a wilderness, even unto this day.

303

And Joshua called unto the twelve men which he had prepared of the children of Israel, of every tribe a man,

304

And Joshua said, "Inasmuch as thou hast troubled us: the LORD shall trouble thee this day." And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burnt them with fire, and overwhelmed them with stones.

305

Kiriathaim, Sibmah and Zerethshahar in mount Emak;

306

And all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai.

307

And when Joshua and all Israel saw that the lyers-await had taken the city and that the smoke of it ascended, they turned again and laid on the men of Ai.

308

Show your children and say, 'Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.'

309

And the men of Ai smote of them upon a thirty and six men, and chased them before the gates even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down. And the hearts of the people were discouraged and melted like water.

310

And as she went, she moved him to ask of her father a field. And she alighted off her ass. And Caleb said unto her, "What aileth thee?"

311

And thou shalt do to Ai and her king, as thou didst unto Jericho and her king. Nevertheless the spoil and cattle thereof, ye shall take unto yourselves. But lay a watch unto the town on the backside thereof."

312

Only the cattle and the spoil of the said city, Israel took unto themselves, according unto the word of the LORD, which he commanded Joshua.

313

And Joshua said unto all the people, "Thus sayeth the LORD God of Israel, 'Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the water in old time even Terah the father of Abraham and Nahor, and served strange gods.

314

And then Joshua arose and all the men of war, to go up unto Ai. And Joshua chose out thirty thousand men of war, and sent them by night.

315

And their coasts were from Mahanaim, even all Bashan, the kingdom of Og, king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair which lie in Bashan, even three score cities,

316

And ye shall compass the city, all that be men of war, and go round about it once: and so shall you do six days.

317

and returned unto Joshua and said unto him, "Let not all the people go up, but let as it were a two or three thousand men go up and destroy Ai, and make not all the people to labour thither, for they are but few."

318

And so there went up thither about a three thousand men, which fled before the men of Ai.

319

And Joshua said, "Ah, Lord Jehovah, wherefore hast thou brought this people over Jordan to deliver us into the hands of the Amorites to destroy us? Would to God we had adventured and dwelt on the other side Jordan.

320

As soon, therefore, as ye have taken the city, see that ye set it on fire. According to the commandment of the LORD see that ye do: behold, I have charged you."

321

Saying, 'That the LORD hath made Jordan a border between us and you, ye children of Ruben and of Gad: ye have no part therefore in the LORD.' And so shall your children make our children cease from fearing the LORD.

322

But this we will do to them and let them live: and so shall no wrath be upon us because of the oath which we sware unto them."

323

For Joshua plucked not his hand back again which he stretched out with the spear, until they had utterly destroyed all the inhabiters of Ai.

324

And they will come out after us, until we have plucked them away from the city. For they will say, 'They flee before us, as at the first time': for we will flee before them.

325

But all the lords said unto all the congregation, "We have sworn unto them by the LORD God of Israel, and therefore we may not hurt them.

326

And he commanded them, saying, "See that ye lie await unto the town on the backside thereof. Go not very far from the city, and see that ye be all ready.

327

And they answered Joshua and said, "It was told thy servants, how that the LORD thy God had commanded his servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabiters thereof out of your sight, and therefore we were exceeding sore afraid of our lives because of you.

328

Then shall ye rise up from lying await and destroy the city: For the LORD your God will deliver it into your hands.

329

And I and all the people that are with me, will approach unto the city. And when they come out against us, as at the first time, then will we flee before them.

330

And the lords said unto them, "Let them live, that they may be hewers of wood and drawers of water unto all the congregation," as the lords said unto them.

331

And now therefore cursed be you, and there shall not cease to be of you, bondmen and hewers of wood and drawers of water unto the house of my God."

332

Then Joshua sent for them, and talked with them, and said, "Wherefore have ye beguiled us and yet ye dwell among us?

333

And now, behold, we are in thine hand; as it seemeth good and right in thine eyes to do unto us, so do."

334

Be strong and bold: for unto this people shalt thou divide the land which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

335

they played wilily, and went and sent ambassadors: and took old sacks upon their asses, and wine bottles old and rent and knit together again,

336

And his coasts met at Tabor, Shahazumah and at Bethshemesh and endeth at Jordan: Sixteen cities with their villages.

337

And Joshua made them that same day hewers of wood and drawers of water unto the congregation and unto the altar of God unto this day, in the place which God should choose.

338

And the men of Israel said unto the Hivites, "Peradventure you dwell among us, and then how should we make peace with you?"

339

"Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore, up and go over Jordan, both thou and all this people, unto the land the which I give unto the children of Israel.

340

And Eleazar the son of Aaron died, whom they buried in Gibeah that pertained to Phinehas his son and was given him in Mount Ephraim.

341

And they came unto Joshua, unto the host to Gilgal, and said unto him and unto the men of Israel, "We be come from a far country, now therefore make agreement with us."

342

they gathered themselves together to fight against Joshua and Israel with one accord.

343

And he dealt as it is said with them, and rid them out of the hands of the children of Israel, that they slew them not.

344

and old clouted shoes upon their feet, and old raiment upon them and all their provision of bread was dried up and hoared.

345

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Judah in their kindreds.

346

But yet the children of Israel trespassed in the excommunicate things: for Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah of the tribe of Judah, took of the excommunicate things. And the wrath of the LORD waxed hot against the children of Israel.

347

When Joshua was waxen old, and stricken in years, the LORD said unto him, "Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet exceeding much land to be possessed.

348

And they answered him, "From a very far country thy servants are come, in the name of the LORD thy God: for we have heard the fame of him, and all that he did in Egypt,

349

Betharabah, Zemaraim, and Bethel;

350

And they cried unto the LORD. And he put darkness between you and the Egyptians and brought the sea upon them and covered them. And your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt. And ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.

351

And they said unto Joshua, "We are thy servants." And Joshua said unto them, "What are ye, and whence come ye?"

352

And the children of Judah came unto Joshua in Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said unto him, "Thou knowest what the LORD said unto Moses the man of God, about me and thee in Kadesh Barnea.

353

And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers. And they conquered it, and dwelt therein.

354

And Jericho shut in her people, and was shut for fear of the children of Israel, so that no man went out or in.

355

All the places that the soles of your feet shall tread upon, have I given you, as I said unto Moses:

356

Kinah, Dimonah, and Adadah;

357

And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for elders of Israel, and for their heads, judges and officers which presented themselves before God.

358

And the LORD said unto Joshua, "This day I have taken away the shame of Egypt from you": and called the name of the same place Gilgal unto this day.

359

And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, ox, sheep and ass, with the edge of the sword.

360

but it shall be a witness between us and you and our generations after us, that we should serve the LORD, with our offerings, sacrifices and peace offerings: and that your children should not say to ours in time to come: ye have no part in the LORD.'

361

And out of the half tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with her suburbs; Gathrimmon with her suburbs: Two cities.

362

And the fifth lot came out unto the tribe of the children of Asher by their kindreds.

363

And after that he read all the words of the law, both the blessing and cursing, according to all that is written in the book of the law -

365

And the whole congregation of the children of Israel came together at Shiloh, and set up the tabernacle of witness there, and the land was in subjection before them.

366

And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh was there a part given among the children of Judah, by the mouth of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Kiriatharba father of Anak which city is called Hebron.

367

Allamelech, Amad, and Mishal; and met at Carmel on the sea, and at Shihor and at Libnath

368

And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho eastward, and the wilderness that goeth up from Jericho throughout mount Bethel:

369

And the second lot came out unto the tribe of the children of Simeon by their kindreds. And their inheritance fell in the midst of the inheritance of the children of Judah.

370

And their coasts were from Heleph and from Allon in Zaananim, and Adaminekeb and Jabneel even to Lakkum, and go out at Jordan.

371

And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with her suburbs; Daberath with her suburbs;

372

And we thought if they should so say to us, or to our generations in time to come, that we would say again, 'Behold the fashion of the altar which our fathers made, neither for burnt offerings nor sacrifices, but that it should be a witness between us and you.'

373

But in any wise take exceeding good heed that ye do the commandment and law which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you: which is, that ye love the LORD your God, and walk in his ways and keep his commandments, and cleave unto him, and serve him with all your hearts and all your souls."

374

And it came to pass, a long season after that the LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and was stricken in years.

375

And then went up to the valley of the son of Hinnom, even unto the south side of the Jebusites the inhabiters of Jerusalem. And then went up to the top of the hill that lieth before the valley of Hinnom westward, and by the edge of the valley of Rephaim northward;

376

And these are the countries which the children inherited in the land of Canaan, unto which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun and the ancient heads of the tribes of the children of Israel,

377

And the lot of the tribe of the children of Judah in their kindreds was the wilderness of Zin that stretched to the coasts of Edom southward, and is the utmost part of the south coasts.

378

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest and the lords returned from the children of Reuben and of Gad out of the land of Gilead unto the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.

379

And the LORD delivered, into the hands of Israel, Lachish; that they took it the second day, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were therein, according to all that he did to Libnah.

380

Behold, I walk this day, by the way of all the world: call ye to mind in all your hearts and in all your souls, that nothing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God promised you. All are come to pass, and nothing hath failed thereof.

381

Then Joshua called unto the Reubenites, the Gadites and to the half tribe of Manasseh,

382

Dimnah with her suburbs; and Nahalal with her suburbs: Four cities.

383

Chepharammoni, Ophni, and Geba: Twelve cities with their villages.

384

God forbid that we should rebel against the LORD and that we should turn this day from after him, and build an altar for burnt offerings nor sacrifices, save the altar of the LORD our God that is before his tabernacle."

385

And the tribe of Manasseh which was the eldest son of Joseph received a lot. And Machir, the eldest son of Manasseh, which was the father of Gilead and a man of war, had Gilead and Bashan.

386

And when they came unto the coasts of Jordan that lie in the land of Canaan: there the children of Ruben, the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh, built an altar fast by Jordan, and that a great altar to see to.

387

And unto the children of Gershon which were of the kindreds of the Levites, they gave out of the other half tribe of Manasseh, the city of refuge for the slayer, Golan in Bashan with her suburbs; Beeshterah with her suburbs: Two cities.

388

And the rest of the children of Manasseh received by their kindreds: which were the children of Abiezer; the children of Helek: the children of Asriel: the children of Shechem, the children of Hepher: the children of Shemida. These are the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph in their kindreds.

389

from Shihor in Egypt unto the borders of Ekron northward, which land was counted to pertain unto the Cananites, even to the five lords of the Philistines: the Gazathites, Ashdothites, Eshkalonites, Gittites, Ekronites, with the Avites,

390

Ziklag, Madmannah, and Sansannah;

391

And Joshua smote all the hill countries and the south countries, and the valleys, and the springs of water, with all their kings and let nought remain, but utterly destroyed all that breathed, as the LORD God of Israel commanded.

392

and then it draweth from the sand hill unto the fountain of water called Nephtoah, and goeth out at the cities of mount Ephron; and draweth to Baalah, otherwise called Kiriathjearim;

393

Hazor Hadattah, and Keriothhezron, otherwise called Hazor;

394

This is the land that remaineth: all the coasts of the Philistines: and all the Geshurites:

395

Then the LORD spake unto Joshua, saying,

396

And then the coast turneth to Ramah and to the strong city of Azor and turneth to Hosah and endeth at the sea, by the possession of Achzib;

397

And out of the tribe of Naphtali, the city of refuge for the slayer, Kadesh in Galilee, with her suburbs; Hammothdor, with her suburbs; Kartan with her suburbs: Three cities.

398

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Issachar by their kindreds, the cities and their villages.

399

and Hebron, Rehob, Hammon, and Kanah even unto great Sidon.

400

And they appointed Kadesh in Galilee, in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kiriatharba which is Hebron, in the mountains of Judah.

401

And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with her suburbs; Abdon with her suburbs;

402

Jarmuth with her suburbs; Engannim with her suburbs: Four cities.

403

And their inheritance was Beersheba, Sheba, and Moladah;

404

And all Israel and the elders thereof, and their officers and judges, stood part on this side the ark, and part on that side, before the priests: that were Levites which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD - as well the stranger, as they that were born among them: half of them on the forefront of the Mount of Gerizim, and half of them on the forefront of mount Ebal: as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded, first to bless the people of Israel.

405

But the Jebusites that were the inhabiters of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not cast out. Wherefore the Jebusites dwell among the children of Judah unto this day.

406

yet the children of Manasseh could not overcome those cities, but the Cananites began to dwell in the same land.

407

And when ye went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho, the citizens of Jericho fought against you: the Amorites, Perezites, Cananites, Hittites, Girgashites, Hivites, Jebusites which I delivered into your hands.

408

And I gave you a land in which ye did not labor, and cities which you built not, and ye dwelt in them. And vines, and olive trees which ye planted not, and ye ate of them.

409

Mizpeh, Chephirah and Mozah;

410

Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish: But Joshua smote him and his people, until he left him nought remaining.

411

And then came the principal heads of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun and unto the ancient heads of the tribes of the children of Israel,

412

And the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon toward the sun rising, from Baalgad under mount Hermon until thou come to Hamath,

413

Ummah, Aphek, and Rehob: Twenty and two cities with their villages.

414

So that all the cities of the Gershonites in their kindreds were thirteen with their Suburbs.

415

Helkath with her suburbs; Rehob with her suburbs: Four cities.

416

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Asher by their kindreds: these cities with their villages.

417

And the third lot came unto the children of Zebulun according unto their kindreds. And the coasts of their inheritance came to Sarid,

418

Now, therefore, give me this mountain which the LORD at that time promised, for thou heardest at the time, how the Anakims were there, and how the cities were great and walled. I trust the LORD will be with me, and I shall drive them out as the LORD said."

419

And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher, Bethshean, and her towns: and the inhabiters of Dor, with the towns pertaining to the same: and the inhabiters of Endor with the towns of the same: and the inhabiters of Taanach with her towns and the inhabiters of Megiddo with the towns of the same, even three countries:

420

And unto the kindreds of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, they gave out of the tribe of Zebulon: Jokneam with her suburbs; Kartah with her suburbs;

421

So that all the cities which were given unto the kindreds of the other children of Kohath, were ten with their suburbs.

422

And from Lachish, Joshua departed unto Eglon, and all Israel with him, and there besieged it, and assaulted it,

423

And out of the tribe of Reuben, they gave Bezer with her suburbs; Jahaz with her suburbs;

424

Notwithstanding, they drave not out the Cananites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Cananites dwelt among the Ephraimites unto this day, and pay tribute.

425

And the coasts of the children of Dan went out from beyond them. For the children of Dan went up and fought against Leshem and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and conquered it, and dwelt therein and called it Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

426

and turneth toward the sun rising to Bethdagon, and met at Zebulun and in the valley of Iphtahel, and toward the northside of Bethemek and Neiel, and goeth out on the left side of Cabul;

427

and then goeth out from Bethel to Luz, and runneth along unto the borders of Archiataroth;

428

Eltolad, Chesil, and Hormah;

429

Forty years old was I when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land. And I brought them word again even as I thought in mine heart.

430

"The mighty God Jehovah, he knoweth, and Israel shall know if; it be to rebel or transgress against the LORD, then the LORD save us not this day.

431

And it went out on the south side of the going up to Akrabbim, and went along to Zin, and ascended up on the south side of Kadesh Barnea, and went along the Hezron and went up to Addar, and set a compass to Karka,

432

Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon: all these cities are twenty and nine with their villages.

433

all the inhabiters of the hill country, from Lebanon unto the hot waters even all the Sidonians. I will cast them out from before the children of Israel, and see that thou in any wise divide it by lot unto the children of Israel to inherit, as I have commanded thee.

434

But and if ye shall go back and cleave unto the rest of these nations that remain with you and shall make marriages with them, and shall go to them and they come to you:

435

And the fourth lot came out to the children of Issachar by their kindreds.

436

And now behold, the LORD hath kept me lusty, as he said, this forty and five years, even since the LORD spake unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness. And now see I am this day four score and five years:

437

And he wrote there, upon the stones, the second law of Moses which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.

438

One of you shall chase a thousand: for the LORD your God he fighteth for you, as he hath said unto you.

439

For the other half, with the Reubenites and the Gadites, have received their inheritance already which Moses gave them beyond Jordan eastward: even as Moses the servant of the LORD gave them:

440

There escaped nothing of all the good things which the LORD had said unto the house of Israel. But all came to pass.

441

and half Gilead and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which pertain unto the children of Machir the son of Manasseh, and that unto half the children of Machir by their kindreds.

442

And I sent hornets before you and ye cast out before you: even the two kings of the Amorites: but not with your own sword or with your own bow.

443

And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the sons begotten of Anak.

444

Be, therefore, exceeding strong that ye take heed to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye bow not aside therefrom, to the righthand or to the left:

445

And then went up to Debir from the valley of Achor, and so northward, turning toward Gilgal that lieth before the going up to Adummim, which is of the south side of the River. And then went along to the water of Enshemesh, and ended at the well of Rogel.

446

even all the kingdom of Og in Bashan which reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei which same remained yet of the rest of the Rephaim. But Moses smote them and destroyed them.

447

But Zelophehad the son of Hepher the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons save daughters. And these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah;

448

Hapharaim, Shion, Anaharath;

449

And the people answered Joshua, "The LORD our God we will serve and his voice we will obey."

450

and said unto them, "Ye have kept all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you:

451

And he went up thence, to the inhabiters of Debir, whose name in the old time was Kiriathsepher.

452

But there remained among the children of Israel seven tribes which had not their inheritance divided out.

453

and goeth out on the side of Ekron northward; And then draweth to Shikkeron and goeth along to mount Baalah, and goeth out at Jabneel; and the end of the coasts is the sea.

454

from Aroer that lieth on the brim of the river Arnon, with the city in the midst of the river. And all the plain of Medeba unto Dibon;

455

Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor for to curse you.

456

And they gave them Kiriatharba of the father of Anak, which is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with the suburbs of the same round about it.

457

And thus they gave to the children of Aaron the priest the franchised cities of the slayer, Hebron with her suburbs, and Libnah with her suburbs;

458

and then it compasseth from Baalah westward, unto Seir, and then goeth along unto the side of mount Jearim, otherwise called Chesalon, on the north side thereof; and cometh down to Bethshemesh and goeth to Timnah,

459

And Joshua answered them, "If ye be much people, then get you up to the wood country, and prepare for yourselves there in the land of the Perezites and of the Rephaim, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for you."

460

And Joshua blessed Caleb the son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron to inherit.

461

And the children of Merari by their kindreds, had out of the tribe of Reuben, out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

462

be sure that the LORD your God will not cast out all these nations before you. But they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges for your sides, and pricks in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.

463

But I took your father Abraham from the other side of the water, and brought him into the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

464

But unto the tribe of Levi Moses gave none inheritance, "For the LORD God of Israel he is their inheritance," as he said unto them.

465

Heshbon with her suburbs; and Jazer with her suburbs: Four cities in all,

466

and that ye go not unto these nations that remain with you: and that ye neither make mention or swear by the names of their gods, and that ye neither serve them nor bow yourselves unto them.

467

And the children of Ruben, the children of Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh, returned and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, and to the land of their possession, wherein they were possessed at the mouth of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

468

And then the coast turneth westward to Aznoth in mount Tabor, and then goeth out from thence to Hukkok and meeteth with Zebulun on the south side, and with Asher on the west, and at Judah upon Jordan toward the sun rising.

469

And the sixth lot came out unto the children of Naphtali by their kindreds.

470

and all the cities of Sihon, king of the Amorites which reigned in Heshbon, even unto the borders of the children of Ammon;

471

Take good heed therefore unto your souls, that ye love the LORD your God.

472

Wherefore he sent for all Israel and for their elders, their heads, their judges and officers, and said unto them, "I am old and stricken in years.

473

Adamah, Ramah and Hazor;

474

Now therefore divide this land to inherit, unto the nine tribes and the half tribe of Manasseh."

475

And Moses sware the same season saying, 'The land whereon thy feet have trodden, shall be thine inheritance and thy children forever because thou hast followed the LORD my God continually.'

476

Zanoah, Engannim, Tappuah and Enam;

477

And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, "Why hast thou given us but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing we be much people, and forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed us so?"

478

And the seventh lot fell to the tribe of Dan by their kindreds.

479

These are they to which Moses gave inheritance in the fields of Moab, on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward.

480

And Kattath, Nahalal, Shimron, Idalah, and Bethlehem: Twelve cities with their villages.

481

Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah; nine cities with their villages.

482

and goeth down westward, even unto the coasts of Japhleti, and unto the coasts of Bethhoron the nether, and so to Gezer, and the ends of their coasts came to the sea.

483

And the coasts of Manasseh reached from Asher to Michmethath that lieth before Shechem and went along on the righthand, even unto the inhabiters of Entappuah,

484

And Joshua answered the house of Joseph, Ephraim and Manasseh, saying, "Ye be much people and have great power and shall not therefore have one lot.

485

and Gilead, and the lands that border upon the Geshurites and the Maacathites, and all mount Hermon and all Bashan unto Salecah;

486

And I brought you into the land of the Amorites which dwelt on the other side Jordan. And they fought with you: and I gave them into your hands. And ye conquered their country. And I destroyed them in your sight.

487

And compasseth it on the north side and goeth to Nathan, and endeth in the valley of Iphtahel.

488

Ashdod with her towns and villages. Gaza with her towns and villages, even unto the river of Egypt: and the great sea with the coasts that lie thereon.

489

and went along to Azmon, and it went out to the river of Egypt: so that the end of the coast is the sea. And these are their south coasts.

490

And on the other side Jordan over against Jericho eastward, they gave Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain, out of the tribe of Reuben and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

491

This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Naphtali by their kindreds: these cities and their villages.

492

and cometh down to the edge of the hill that lieth before the valley of the son of Hinnom which is in the valley of Rephaim northward, and descendeth through the valley of Hinnom unto the side of Jebusi southward and goeth down to the well of Rogel.

493

Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites nor the Maacathites: But the Geshurites and the Maacathites dwelt among the Israelites even unto this day.

494

that the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly, may flee thither. And those cities shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

495

And their strong cities are Ziddim, Zer, Hamath, Rakkath and Chinnereth;

496

from the south. All the land of the Cananites, and Mearah that pertaineth to the Sidonians, even unto Aphek, and to the borders of the Amorites.

497

and yet am as strong at this time, as I was when Moses sent me: look how strong I was then, so strong I am now, to war and to do all manner of things.

498

And went up to Bethhoglah and went along by the north side of Betharabah and went up to the stone of Bohan the son of Reuben.

499

Then the children of Joseph said again, "The hill will not be gotten of us: for all the Cananites that dwell in the low country have chariots of iron, and so have they that inhabit Bethshean, and the towns of the same, and they also that dwell in the valley of Jezreel."

500

And Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite, unto this day: because he followed the LORD God of Israel perpetually.

501

And the people answered and said, "God forbid that we should forsake the LORD and serve strange gods.

502

But when ye have forsaken the LORD and have served strange gods, he will turn and do you evil and consume you, after that he hath done you good."

503

And the lot came out unto the kindreds of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest which were of the Levites had given them by lot, out of the tribe of Judah, out of the tribe of Simeon, out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.

504

Did not Achan the son of Zerah trespass in the excommunicate things, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel, so that he alone perished not for his wickedness?'"

505

and went out westward to Michmethath on the north side, and compassed eastward unto Taanathshiloh, and past it on the east side unto Janoah,

506

gave them their inheritance by lot, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, to give unto the nine tribes, and unto the half tribe of Manasseh.

507

And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all these nations before your faces: for the LORD your God he fought for you.

508

at the mouth of the LORD they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnathserah in mount Ephraim. And he built the city and dwelt therein.

509

And the children of Israel sent unto the children of Ruben, to the children of Gad and unto the half tribe of Manasseh into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,

510

And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities by name:

511

"Come with the children of Israel and say, 'Appoint out free cities, of which I spake unto you by Moses,

512

And now the LORD hath given rest unto your brethren as he promised them. Wherefore, return and go unto your tents and unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side Jordan.

513

and spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan saying, "The LORD commanded by Moses, to give us cities to dwell in and the fields about them, for our cattle."

514

And the men arose and went their way. And Joshua charged them that went to describe the land saying, "Hence, and go through the land and describe it, and come again to me hither: and I will cast lots for you before the LORD in Shiloh."

515

And their east coasts are the salt sea, even unto the edge of Jordan. And their borders in the north quarter were from another point of the sea where Jordan endeth.

516

Nevertheless, my brethren that went up with me discouraged the hearts of the people. But I followed the LORD my God even unto the end.

517

Then Joshua said unto the folk, "Ye are witnesses unto yourselves, that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him." And they said, "We are witnesses."

518

and with him ten lords of every chief house a lord throughout all the tribes of Israel, which heads of their fathers' households were over the thousands of Israel.

519

But that ye stick fast unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.

520

and turned from Sarid eastward toward the sun rising unto the border of Chisloth in mount Tabor: and then goeth out to Daberath and goeth up to Japhia;

521

And Moses gave unto the half tribe of Manasseh. And the half tribe of Manasseh had their part by their kindreds.

522

and the bordering cities of the children of Ephraim, lie among the inheritance of the children of Manasseh: even all the cities with their villages.

523

And their south coasts were from the brink of the salt sea and from a certain point of the sea that leaneth southward.

524

Then the children of Reuben and of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh answered, and said unto the heads over the thousands of Israel,

525

and went from thence to the south side of Luz, otherwise called Bethel: and descended to Atarothaddar upon the hill that lieth on the south side of the nether Bethhoron.

526

And their borders went from Tappuah westward unto the river Kanah, and the ends were the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim in their kindreds,

527

For the children of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. And therefore they gave no part unto the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in and the suburbs of the same, for their beasts and cattle.

528

And when the children of Israel heard say, "Behold the children of Reuben, the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar in the forefront of the land of Canaan in the borders of Jordan on the side of the children of Israel":

529

And out of the tribe of Gad, they gave the franchised city of the slayer, Ramoth in Gilead with her suburbs; Mahanaim with her suburbs;

530

so that there was not one word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not - before all the congregation of Israel, with women and children and the strangers that were among them.

531

And as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you: so shall the LORD bring upon you all evil until he have destroyed you from off this good land, which the LORD your God hath given you

532

And I gave unto Isaac, Jacob and Esau. And I gave unto Esau mount Seir to possess it. But Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

533

And the LORD gave the rest round about according to all that he sware unto their fathers. So that there stood not a man of all their enemies before them. But the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hands.

534

so that all the cities of the children of Merari in their kindreds, which were the rest of the kindreds of the Levites, were by their lot, twelve cities.

535

Unto the one half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses gave possession in Bashan: and unto the other half thereof gave Joshua with their brethren on this side Jordan westward. And also when Joshua sent them away unto their tents and blessed them,

536

And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD, and there he divided the land unto the children of Israel, to each their portion.

537

And out of the tribe of Benjamin they gave Gibeon with her suburbs; Geba with her suburbs;

538

"Thus say the whole congregation of the LORD: 'What transgression is this that ye have transgressed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from after the LORD and to build you an altar for to rebel this day against the LORD?

539

and from thence goeth along eastward toward the sun rising, to Gathhepher, Ethkazin, and goeth to Rimmon, Methoar, and Neah.

540

And thereto all the villages that lie round about these cities, even unto Baalathbeer and Ramah, southward. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Simeon in their kindreds.

541

and Ain with her suburbs, and Juttah with her suburbs, and Bethshemesh with her suburbs: Nine cities out of those two tribes.

542

And their coasts were Helkath, Hali, Beten and Achshaph;

543

And the lot of the tribe of the children of Benjamin came up according to their kindreds. And the coasts of their lot came out between the children of Judah and the children of Joseph.

544

And all the cities that the Levites had in the possession of the children of Israel were forty eight with their suburbs.

545

These are the inheritances which Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun, and the ancient fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel divided by lot in Shiloh before the LORD, in the door of the tabernacle of witness, and so made an end of dividing the country.

546

"Then put away," said he, "the strange gods which are among you, and bow your hearts unto the LORD God of Israel."

547

And the LORD did cast out before us all the nations with the Amorites which dwelt in the land, wherefore we will serve the LORD - for he is our God."

548

But I would not agree to hearken unto Balaam, and therefore he blessed you: And so I delivered you out of his hand.

549

Maon, Carmel, Ziph, and Juttah;

550

Aim, Rimmon, Ether and Ashan: Four cities with their villages.

551

And Joshua smote them from Kadesh Barnea, unto Gaza, and all the coasts of Goshen, even unto Gibeon.

552

Then I sent Moses and Aaron. And I plagued Egypt, after the manner as I did among them, and after that I brought you out,

553

And their coasts were Jezreel, Chesulloth, Shunem;

554

And they gave them the free city of the slayer: Shechem with her suburbs, in mount Ephraim; and Gezer with her suburbs;

555

Anathoth with her suburbs; Almon with her suburbs: Four cities.

556

and the land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, which Tappuah lay in the borders between Manasseh and the children of Ephraim.

557

Eltolad, Bethul and Hormah;

558

And Joshua said unto the children of Israel, "How long are ye so slack to go and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers hath given you?

559

Gederoth, Bethdagon, Naamah and Makkedah: sixteen cities with their villages.

560

And their north coasts were from Jordan and went up to the side of Jericho on the north side, and went up through the mountains westward, and they ended at the wilderness of Bethaven;

561

and went up to the sea and to Mareal, and touched at Dabbesheth, and met at the river that lieth before Jokneam;

562

because the daughters of Manasseh did inherit among his sons. And Manasseh's other sons had the land of Gilead.

563

Behold, I have appointed these nations that remain to be the inheritance of your tribes: even from Jordan, and all the nations that I have destroyed, even unto the great sea.

564

he said unto them, "Return with much riches unto your tents, and with very much cattle, with silver, gold, brass, iron, and with raiment above measure, and divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren."

565

And the west borders are the great sea and the coasts that lie thereon. And these are the coasts of the children of Judah round about in their kindreds.

566

And the children of Ephraim took their coasts by kindreds. And the coasts of their inheritance eastward were, Atarothaddar, even unto Bethhoron the upper,

567

Then Joshua returned and all Israel with him to Debir, and they fought against it,

568

and took it, and the king thereof and all the towns that pertained thereto. And smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls that were therein, and let nought remain. And as he did to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and the king thereof, and as he did to Libnah and her king.

569

And the south coast goeth from the edge of Kiriathjearim westward, and goeth out to the water well of Nephtoah;

570
