And they are also seven kings; five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; and when he comes, he must remain a little while.

288

And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:

289

And he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness, and I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns.

290

These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they have kept themselves chaste. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They have been purchased from among men as first fruits to God and to the Lamb.

291

And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying, "To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!"

293

And he said to me, "The waters you saw where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues.

294

Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, with a rainbow over his head; and his face was like the sun, and his legs like pillars of fire.

295

But I have a few things against you: you have some there who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat food sacrificed to idols and to practice sexual immorality.

296

For all nations have drunk the wine of her impure passion, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich with the wealth of her wantonness."

297

And he called out with a mighty voice, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great! She has become a dwelling place of demons, a haunt of every unclean spirit, a haunt of every unclean and hateful bird.

298

I looked, and behold, a white horse, and its rider had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.

300

When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up from the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them and kill them.

301

From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron; he treads the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.

302

He exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound was healed.

303

Another angel, who had a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. And he was given much incense to offer, with the prayers of all the saints, on the golden altar before the throne.

305

Then I saw another angel ascend from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God, and he called out with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the earth and sea,

306

The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

307

for his judgments are true and just; he has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication, and he has avenged on her the blood of his servants."

308

who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw.

309

This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits.

310

So the first angel went and poured out his bowl on the earth, and foul and loathsome sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshipped his image.

311

I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who showed them to me.

312

and will come out to deceive the nations which are at the four corners of the earth, that is, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the seashore.

313

Then God's temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant; and there were flashes of lightning, voices, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a great hailstorm.

314

saying, "Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads."

316

And he deceives those who dwell on the earth because of the signs which he was given power to do in the presence of the beast. He ordered them to make an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

318

And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron; and her child was caught up to God and to his throne.

319

Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand.

320

with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication."

322

And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

323

And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against him who sits on the horse and against his army.

325

The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, "It is done!"

326

The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands nor give up worshipping demons and idols of gold and silver and bronze and stone and wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk;

328

He who does wrong, let him do wrong still; and he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; and he who does right, let him do right still; and he who is holy, let him be holy still."

329

I heard a voice from heaven like the sound of many waters and like the sound of loud thunder, and the voice I heard was like the sound of harpists playing on their harps.

330

but in the days of the trumpet of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then the mystery of God will be finished, as he announced to his servants the prophets.

331

And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn the song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who had been redeemed from the earth.

332

Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the generals and the rich and the strong, and every one, slave and free, hid in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains,

334

And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

337

And he said to me, "These words are trustworthy and true. And the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants the things which must soon take place."

338

The woman was clothed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and of the unclean things of her immorality,

339

And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and devoured them.

340

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple, saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God."

341

And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which mystically is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

342

And the ten horns you saw, they and the beast will hate the harlot; they will make her desolate and naked, and will eat her flesh and burn her up with fire,

343

And I saw what looked like a sea of glass mixed with fire and, standing beside the sea of glass, those who had been victorious over the beast and his image and over the number of his name. They held harps of God

346

It had a great, high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and on the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel.

347

The beast who was, and is not, is an eighth. He belongs to the seven and he goes to destruction.

348

And the kings of the earth, who committed fornication and were wanton with her, will weep and wail over her when they see the smoke of her burning;

349

Remember therefore what you have received and heard; keep it, and repent. But if you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you.

350

And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name and his dwelling, that is, those who dwell in heaven.

351

And he said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near.

353

The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was given to it to scorch men with fire.

355

The fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was plunged into darkness; men gnawed their tongues in agony

356

The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood,

357

Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan who say that they are Jews and are not, but lielook, I will make them come and bow down before your feet, and know that I have loved you.

358

Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous, seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, because with them the wrath of God is finished.

359

and swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created heaven and the things in it, the earth and the things in it, and the sea and the things in it, that there will be no more delay,

360

The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood like that of a dead man, and every living thing in the sea died.

361

The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald,

362

The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as clear as glass.

363

for God has put it into their hearts to carry out his purpose by being of one mind and giving over their royal power to the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

364

As she glorified herself and played the wanton, so give her a like measure of torment and mourning; for she says in her heart, 'A queen I sit, and I am not a widow, mourning I will never see.'

365

And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, because no one buys their cargoes any more

366

Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he cried to all the birds that fly in midheaven, "Come, gather for the great supper of God,

367

"And behold, I am coming soon. Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book."

368

At once I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne was standing in heaven, with one sitting on the throne.

369

And the angel said to me, "Why do you wonder? I will tell you the mystery of the woman and of the beast that carries her, which has the seven heads and the ten horns.

370

His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems; and he has a name written on him which no one knows but himself.

371

The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the rod, twelve thousand stadia; its length and width and height are equal.

372

Men were scorched by the fierce heat, and they cursed the name of God who had power over these plagues, and they did not repent and give him glory.

373

having the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal.

374

Therefore in one day her plagues will come, pestilence and mourning and famine, and she will be burned with fire; for mighty is the Lord God who judges her.

375

And a voice came from the throne, saying, "Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both small and great."

376

If anyone has an ear, let him hear.

378

cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and chariots; and slaves and human souls.

379

The third angel poured out his bowl into the rivers and the springs of water, and they became blood.

380

the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.

381

And again they shouted, "Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever."

382

they will stand far off, in fear of her torment, and say, 'Woe, woe, the great city, the mighty city, Babylon! In one hour has your judgment come.'

384

He also measured its wall, a hundred and forty-four cubits by a man's measure, which is also an angel's.

385

And I heard the angel of the waters say, "Righteous are you, who are and who were, O Holy One, because you judged these things;

386

After this I looked, and the temple of the tabernacle of testimony in heaven was opened,

387

But he said to me, "Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God."

388

These have one purpose and they give their power and authority to the beast.

389

for her sins are piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.

390

And I heard the altar saying, "Yes, O Lord God, the Almighty, true and just are your judgments."

391

Pay her back even as she has paid, and give back to her double according to her deeds; in the cup which she has mixed, mix a double portion for her.

392

In one hour such great wealth has been laid waste!' And every shipmaster and all passengers and sailors, and all who make their living by the sea, stood far off,

393

for they shed the blood of saints and prophets, and you have given them blood to drink. They deserve it."

394

The one who talked with me had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, and its gates and its walls.

395

cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble;

396

and the seven angels who had the seven plagues came out of the temple, clothed in linen, clean and bright, and girded around their chests with golden sashes.

397

so that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great."

398

and they cursed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and they did not repent of their deeds.

399

saying, 'Woe, woe, the great city, she who was clothed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls!

400

The fruit you longed for has gone from you, and all your riches and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.

401

Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God, who lives for ever and ever.

402

And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed.

403

and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, 'What city is like the great city?'

404

There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.

405

The merchants of these things, who gained wealth from her, will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning,
