In those days Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John.

Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!”

They were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them. They were astonished, but those who followed Him were afraid. Taking the Twelve aside again, He began to tell them the things that would happen to Him.

But to sit at My right or left is not Mine to give; instead, it is for those it has been prepared for.”

Jesus called them over and said to them, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles dominate them, and their men of high positions exercise power over them.

and some of those standing there said to them, “What are you doing, untying the donkey?”

Then those who went ahead and those who followed kept shouting:

Hosanna!
He who comes in the name
of the Lord is the blessed One!

They came to Jerusalem, and He went into the temple complex and began to throw out those buying and selling in the temple. He overturned the money changers’ tables and the chairs of those selling doves,

“But those tenant farmers said among themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours!’

Summoning His disciples, He said to them, “I assure you: This poor widow has put in more than all those giving to the temple treasury.

“When you see the abomination that causes desolation standing where it should not” (let the reader understand), “then those in Judea must flee to the mountains!

For those will be days of tribulation, the kind that hasn’t been from the beginning of the world, which God created, until now and never will be again!

Unless the Lord limited those days, no one would survive. But He limited those days because of the elect, whom He chose.

“But in those days, after that tribulation:

The sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not shed its light;

And one of those who stood by drew his sword, struck the high priest’s slave, and cut off his ear.

When the servant saw him again she began to tell those standing nearby, “This man is one of them!”

But again he denied it. After a little while those standing there said to Peter again, “You certainly are one of them, since you’re also a Galilean!”

Those who passed by were yelling insults at Him, shaking their heads, and saying, “Ha! The One who would demolish the sanctuary and build it in three days,

Let the Messiah, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see and believe.” Even those who were crucified with Him were taunting Him.

When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “Look, He’s calling for Elijah!”

She went and reported to those who had been with Him, as they were mourning and weeping.

Later, He appeared to the Eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table. He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who saw Him after He had been resurrected.
