Jesus clearly perceived at once be the Spirit that they were thus reasoning in their hearts and said to them.

"Why do you reason thus in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Rise, take up your cot and walk'?

Thus by your tradition which you have handed down you set at naught the word of God; and you do many other things like that."

Then the army captain, who was standing facing Jesus when he thus died, said, "in truth this man was a Son of God."
