And He marvelled because of their unbelief. And He was going round about the villages, teaching.

277

And they said, "Moses permitted to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away."

278

And He said to her, "Suffer the children first to be satisfied; for it is not good to take the children's bread, and cast it to the little dogs."

279

"And, when the seven among the four thousand, how many basketfuls of pieces did ye take up?" And, they said, "Seven."

280

But take heed; I have foretold you all things.

281

And He taught them many things in parables, and said to them in His teaching,

282

And, an opportune day having come, when Herod, on his birthday, made a supper for his nobles and for the chief captains, and the chief men of Galilee;

283

When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of pieces did ye take up?" They say to Him "Twelve."

284

And having strictly charged him, He straightway sent him away,

285

For John said to Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife."

286

And He taketh with Him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly amazed, and to be in distress.

287

And those going before, and those following, were crying, "Hosanna! Blessed is He That cometh in the name of the Lord!

289

and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. And He cometh into a house.

290

And these likewise are those sown upon the rocky places, who, when they hear the word, straightway with joy receive it;

291

And, when the sabbath came, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many, hearing Him, were astonished, saying, "Whence hath this Man these things?" And, "What is the wisdom which is given to This Man?" And, "Such mighty works are wrought by His hands!"

292

And these are the ones sown on the good ground: such as hear the word, and receive it, and bear fruit, thirtyfold, and sixtyfold, and a hundredfold."

293

this was from the Lord, and is marvelous in our eyes?"

294

But, after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee."

295

And, at the season, he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruits of the vineyard.

296

But straightway a woman, whose little daughter had an unclean spirit, having heard of Him, coming, fell down at His feet.

297

and the stars will be falling out of the heavens, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken.

298

But he, going forth, began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the matter; so that He could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places. And they were coming to Him from every quarter.

299

and they have no root in themselves, but are only temporary; then, when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, straightway they stumble.

300

But no one is able, after having entered into the house of the strong man, to plunder his goods, except he first bind the strong man; and then will he plunder his house.

301

How he entered into the house of God during the high priesthood of Abiathar, and ate the show-bread, which it is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?"

302

and saith to them, "Go into the village that is over against you; and straightway, as ye enter into it, ye will find a colt tied, on which no man ever yet sat: loose him, and bring him.

303

for Herod was fearing John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he was preserving him.

304

And, when He came out of the boat, straightway there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,

305

And the woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by race. And she kept asking Him to cast forth the demon out of her daughter.

307

"I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with Me now three days, and have nothing to eat;

308

And oft-times it cast him both into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but, if Thou canst do anything, having compassion on us, help us!"

309

And He said to them, "Did ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was hungry, he and those who were with him?

311

And those who saw it declared to them how it befell the demoniac, and concerning the swine.

312

And, having called them to Him, He said to them in parables, "How can Satan cast out Satan?

314

And He saith to the man having the withered hand, "Arise in the midst."

315

And, as He was entering into the boat, he that had been a demoniac was beseeching Him, that he might be with Him.

316

For he that has, to him shall be given; and he that has not, from him shall be taken away even what he has."

317

If any one has ears to hear, let him hear."

318

And, taking hold of the blind man's hand, He brought him out of the village; and, spitting in his eyes, and putting His hands upon him, He asked him, "Do you see anything?"

319

The immersion of John, was it from Heaven, or from men? Answer Me."

320

And, taking him, they beat him, and sent him away empty.

321

And he went away, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus did for him; and all were wondering.

322

And they told Him, saying, 'John the Immerser;' and others, 'Elijah;' but others, 'One of the prophets.'"

323

And they began to beseech Him to depart from their borders.

324

And He said to them, "Do ye not yet understand?"

325

and the daughter of Herodias herself coming in and dancing, it pleased Herod and those reclining at table with him; and the king said to the damsel, "Ask of me whatsoever you wish, and I will give it to you."

326

and beseeches Him much, saying, "My little daughter is extremely ill; I pray that, coming, Thou wilt lay Thy hands upon her, that she may be healed and live."

328

all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man."

329

But those husbandmen said among themselves, 'This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.'

330

but there will come days when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.

331

And it came to pass, as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside, and the birds came and devoured it.

332

But he kept saying with great vehemence, "If I must die with Thee, I will not deny Thee!" And in like manner also said they all.

333

Verily I say to you, I will no more drink of the fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new in the Kingdom of God."

334

And, if any one say to you, 'Why do ye this?' say ye, 'The Lord hath need of him;' and straight-way he will send him back hither."

335

And they bring the colt to Jesus, and cast on him their garments; and He sat on him.

336

And He said to her, "Because of this word go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter."

337

And straight-way Jesus, perceiving in Himself that power had gone forth from Him, turning about in the crowd, said, "Who touched Me?"

338

And, going away into her own house, she found the child laid upon the bed, and the demon gone out.

339

And Peter, answering, says to Jesus, "Rabbi, it is good that we are here; and let us make three tents; one for Thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah;"

340

He had yet one, a beloved son; he sent him to them last, saying, 'They will pay deference to my son.'

341

And Jesus said to them, "I will ask you one thing; and answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

342

And they ate, and were satisfied; and they took up, of the pieces that remained over, seven baskets.

343

And if a house be divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand.

344

and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, he knows not how.

345

What, therefore, will the lord of the vineyard do! He will come, and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others.

346

and, if I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way; and some of them are from afar."

348

And again he sent to them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and dishonored.

349

And He commandeth the multitude to sit down on the ground; and, taking the seven loaves, having given thanks, He broke, and was giving to the disciples, to set before them; and they set them before the multitude.

352

And the Pharisees said to them, "Behold, why are they doing on the sabbath that which is not lawful?"

354

And they said to them even as Jesus said; and they let them go.

355

And many spread their garments in the way; and others spread branches, having cut them from the fields.

356

And, taking him, they killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.

359

And, having cried out, and convulsed him much, it came out; and he became as one dead; so that many said, "He died!"

360

And, coming in straight-way, in haste, to the king, she asked, saying, "I wish that you would, forthwith, give me on a dish, the head of John the Immerser."

361

And he swore to her, "Whatsoever you ask of me, I will give it to you, unto half of my kingdom."

362

And the king, straightway sending off one of his guard, gave orders to bring his head; and, departing, he beheaded him in the prison,

363

And he sent another; and him they killed; and many others, beating some, and killing some.

364

who had his dwelling in the tombs; and no one could any longer bind him, not even with a chain;

365

And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.

366

because he had often been bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces, and no one had strength to tame him.

367

But, when the fruit permits, straightway he puts forth the sickle, because the harvest has come."

368

But she answered, and says to Him, "Yes, Lord; even the little dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs."

369

And, if Satan did arise against himself, and was divided, he cannot stand, but has an end.

370

having heard the things concerning Jesus, coming in the crowd behind, touched His garment.

371

And, as they were coming down from the mountain, He charged them that they should tell no one what they saw, until the Son of Man should arise from the dead.

372

And they went away, and found a colt tied at the door without on the street; and they loose him.

373

For she said, "If I touch even His garments, I shall be healed."

374

And, having gone out, she said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" And she said, "The head of John the Immerser."

375

And, as He was sitting upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked Him privately,

376

And some of those standing there said to them, "What do ye, loosing the colt?"

377

"But take heed to yourselves; for they will deliver you up to the councils; and in synagogues ye will be beaten; and before governors and kings ye will stand for My sake, for a testimony to them.

378

383

And His disciples answered Him, "Whence will any one be able to satisfy these men with bread, here in a desert place?"

384

for he knew not what to answer, for they became much afraid.

385

And some of those standing by, hearing it, said, "Behold, He is calling Elijah!"

And, having heard of it, his disciples came and took up his corpse, and placed it in a tomb.

387

And they led Jesus away to the high priest; and there come together with him all the high priests and the elders and the scribes.

And, though becoming very sorrowful, the king, because of his oaths, and those reclining with him, would not thwart her.

392

And His disciples said to Him, "Thou seest the multitude thronging Thee, and sayest Thou, 'Who touched Me?'"

393

And He cometh and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, "Simon, are you sleeping? were you not able to watch one hour?

405

And, suddenly looking around, they no longer saw with themselves any one, except Jesus only.

406

And Jesus saith to them, "All ye will be made to stumble; because it has been written, 'I will smite the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered abroad.'

408

Verily I say to you, whosoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, will in no wise enter therein."

409

And, when He was alone, those who were about Him with the twelve asked Him as to the parables.

410

making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye handed down; and many such things ye do."

464

In like manner the high priests, mocking Him among themselves with the scribes, said, "He saved others; Himself He cannot save!

And, seeing them distressed in rowing, for the wind was contrary to them, about the fourth watch of the night He cometh to them, walking on the sea; and He wished to pass by them;

550

"We heard Him say, 'I will destroy this temple made with hands, and in three days I will build another made without hands.'"

551

And He spake the saying openly. And Peter took Him, and began to rebuke Him.

552

And with many such parables He spake the word to them, as they were able to hear it.

554

And He permitted no one to follow with Him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

555

And they were saying among themselves, "Who will roll away the stone for us out of the door of the tomb?"

556

And Jesus, answering him, said, "What do you wish that I should do for you?" And the blind man said to Him, "Rabboni, that I may receive my sight."

558

And, the hour being already late, His disciples, coming to Him, said, "The place is desert, and the hour is already late;

559

And, hearing that it was Jesus the Nazarene, he began to cry out, and say, "Son of David! Jesus! have mercy on me!"

560

And straightway the second time the cock crowed. And Peter remembered the word, how Jesus said to him, "Before the cock crows twice, you will deny Me thrice." And, having thought thereon, he kept weeping.

562

And, returning, He found them again sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they knew not what to answer Him.

563

And Jesus, seeing that he answered discreetly, said to him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God." And no one any more dared to question Him.

564

And they went away in the boat to a desert place apart.

565

And He said to them, "Why are ye fearful? Have ye not yet faith?"

566

And there was one called Barabbas, bound with the insurgents, who, in the insurrection, had committed murder.

567

And He saith to them, "Are ye too thus without understanding? Do ye not perceive that nothing, entering into a man from without, can defile him;

568

And he preached, saying, "There cometh after me One Who is mightier than I, the latchet of Whose shoes I am not worthy, stooping down, to loose.

569

And, looking around, Jesus saith to His disciples, "With what difficulty shall those who have riches enter into the Kingdom of God!"

570

And straight-way the damsel arose, and walked; for she was twelve years old. And straightway they were amazed with great amazement.

571

And one, running and filling a sponge full of vinegar, putting it on a reed, gave it to Him to drink, saying, "Let alone; let us see whether Elijah is comming to take Him down."

572

And one of those standing by, having drawn his sword, smote the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear.

573

And, passing by the next morning, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.

574

And they bring to Him one deaf, and speaking with difficulty; and they beseech Him to lay His hand upon him.

575

And wheresoever He was entering into villages, or into cities, or into the country, they placed the sick in the marketplaces, and were beseeching Him, that they might touch even the border of His garment; and as many as touched were healed.

576

And, having taken hold of the child's hand, He saith to her, "Talitha cumi;" which is, being interpreted, "Damsel, (I say to you), arise."

577

And, taking a little child, He set it in the midst of them; and, holding it in His arms, He said to them,

578

And Pilate wondered, if He had already died; and, calling to him the centurion, he asked him, whether He were already dead.

579

And Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of Joses, beheld where He was laid.

581

Did ye never read the Scripture, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same became the head of a corner;

583

so also do ye, when ye see these things coming to pass, know that He is near, at the doors.

584

She, going, told it to those who had been with Him, as they were mourning and weeping.

585

for they did not understand concerning the loaves, but their heart was hardened.

586

And they, hearing it, rejoiced, and promised to give him money. And he was seeking how he might conveniently deliver Him up.

588

And, if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is good for you to enter into life lame, rather than having the two feet to be cast into Hell.

589

And, taking him aside from the multitude privately, He put His fingers into his ears; and, spitting, He touched his tongue;

590

And the high priests accused Him of many things.

591

And a multitude was sitting about Him; and they say to Him, "Behold, Thy mother and Thy brothers without are seeking for Thee."

592

And, having entered, He saith to them, "Why do ye make a tumult, and weep? the child did not die, but she is sleeping."

593

And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, "He hath done all things well: He maketh even the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak."

594

But Jesus said to them, "Ye know not what ye are asking. Are ye able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be immersed with the immersion that I am immersed with?"

595

David himself calls Him Lord; and whence is He his Son?" And the great multitude heard Him gladly.

596

Now he that was betraying Him gave them a signal, saying, "Whomsoever I shall kiss, This is He, take Him, and lead Him away securely."

597

And, wheresoever he enters, say ye to the master of the house, 'The Teacher saith, Where is My guest-chamber, where I may eat the passover with My disciples?'

598

And one of the multitude answered Him, "Teacher, I have brought to Thee my son, who has a dumb spirit;

599

And the people saw them going on their way, and many knew them, and they ran together there on foot from all the cities, and outwent them.

600

and whosoever wishes to be first among you shall be servant of all:

602

but to sit on My right hand, or on My left, is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared."

603

who, when He was in Galilee, were following Him, and ministering to Him; and many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

604

But they were silent; for they disputed with one another in the way, who was the greatest.

605

And, leaving the multitude, they take Him with them, as He was, in the boat. And other boats were with Him.

606

And, having taken leave of them, He went away into the mountain to pray.

607

for they all did cast in out of their abundance; but she out of her want cast in all that she had??er whole living."

609

And the ten, hearing it, began to be much displeased with James and John.

610

and the first seats in the synagogues, and the first places at the feasts;

612

But they were not understanding the saying, and were afraid to ask Him.

613

(For he was coming to understand that because of envy the high priests had delivered Him up).

614

And, calling to Him His disciples, He said to them, "Verily I say to you, this poor widow cast in more than all who are casting into the treasury;

615

But the high priests stirred up the multitude, that he should rather release to them Barabbas.

616

And, when it was evening, the boat was in the midst of the sea, and He was alone on the land.

617

And Peter followed Him afar off, even within into the court of the high priest; and he was sitting with the attendants, and he was warming himself at the light of the fire.

618

And they come to the house of the synagogue-ruler; and He beholds a tumult, and people weeping and wailing greatly.

619

And, answering them, He saith, "Who is My mother, and My brothers?"

620

But Jesus said, "Forbid him not; for there is no one who shall exercise power in My name, and be able quickly to speak evil of Me;

621

yet, when it is sown, grows up, and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts out great branches; so that the birds of the heaven can lodge under its shadow."

622

And Pilate, again answering, said to them, "What, then, shall I do to Him Whom ye call the King of the Jews?"

623

I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye did not take Me; but this is done that the Scriptures may be fulfilled."

624

And looking around on those who sat about Him, He saith, "Behold, My mother, and My brothers!

625

Ye heard the blasphemy: what think ye?" And they all condemned Him to be worthy of death.

626

Arise, let us be going. Behold, he that is betraying Me has come near."

627

and they, going away, told it to the rest; neither did they believe them.

628

But Jesus no longer made any answer; so that Pilate marvelled.

629

OMITTED TEXT.

630

And his ears were opened, and the bond of his tongue was loosed, and he was speaking properly.

631

And the high priests and all the Sanhedrin were seeking for testimony against Jesus, in order to put Him to death; and they were not finding it.

632

And, having come, going straightway to Him, he says, "Rabbi;" and kissed Him.

633

But He saith to them, "Give ye them to eat." And they said to Him, "Going, shall we buy two hundred denaries worth of loaves, and give them to eat?"

634

And He commanded that all should recline by companies on the grass.

635

And they laid hands on Him, and took Him.

636

But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came, and fell down before Him, and told Him all the truth.

637

And Pilate again asked Him, saying, "Answerest Thou nothing? Behold how many things they accuse Thee of!"

638

but, seeing Him walking on the sea, they supposed that it was a ghost, and they cried out;

639

And He charged them much that no one should know this; and He commanded that something should be given her to eat.

640

But he again denied. And, after a little while, those who stood by said to Peter, "Of a truth you are one of them; for you are a Galilaean."

641

But he denied, saying, "I neither know nor understand what you are saying." And he went out into the porch [and the cock crowed].

642

And He went up to them into the boat; and the wind ceased; and they were exceedingly amazed in themselves:

643

And, going away again, He prayed, saying the same thing.

644

Or what could a man give as an exchange for his soul?

645

But he began to curse, and to swear, "I know not This Man of Whom ye speak."

646

And they said to Him, "Grant to us that we may sit, one on Thy right hand, and one on Thy left, in Thy Kingdom."

647

And, answering, they say to Jesus, "We do not know." And Jesus saith to them, "Neither do I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."

648

And Pilate answered them, saying, "Do you wish me to release to you the King of the Jews?"

649

And they were deriding Him. But He, having put them all out, taketh with Him the father of the child, and the mother, and those with Him, and goeth in where the child was.

650

for they all saw Him; and were troubled. But he straight-way talked with them, and saith to them, "Be of good courage! it is I, be not afraid."

651

And, coming up, the multitude began to ask him to do as he was wont to do to them.

652

And He charged them that they should tell no one; but the more He charged them, the more a great deal did they publish it.

653

And they cried out again, "Crucify Him!"

654

And they said to Him, "We are able." And Jesus said to them, "The cup that I drink ye shall drink; and the immersion with which I am immersed shall ye be immersed;

655

And Pilate said to them, "Why, what evil did He do?" But they cried out vehemently, "Crucify Him!"

656

And many were rebuking him, that he should be silent. But he kept crying much more, "Son of David! have mercy on me!"

657

And those who ate the loaves were five thousand men.

658

And they took up broken pieces, twelve basketfuls, and from the fishes.

659

And Jesus answering, said to them, "Did ye come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs, to seize Me?

660

And they all ate, and were satisfied.

661

And certain ones, standing up, were bearing false testimony against Him, saying,

662

send them away, that, having gone into the surrounding fields and villages, they may buy themselves something to eat."

663

And he, casting away his garment, springing up, came to Jesus.

664

And He said to them, "What do you wish that I should do for you?"

665

And, standing still, Jesus said, "Call him." And they call the blind man, saying to him, "Be of good cheer; arise, He is calling you!"

666

But He saith to them, "How many loaves have ye? go and see." And, having ascertained, they say, "Five, and two fishes."

667

And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, "Dost Thou answer nothing? What do these testify against Thee?"

668

For many were bearing false testimony against Him, and their testimonies were not agreed.

669

And, having learned it from the centurion, he granted the Corpse to Joseph.

670

And the high priest, rending his clothes, says, "What further need have we of witnesses?

672

And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and fifties.

673

And the maid, seeing him, began again to say to those standing by, This is one of them."

674

and, seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him, and says, "You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus."

675

And He was looking around to see her who did this.

676

they ran about that whole country, and began to carry about on beds those who were sick, where they were hearing that He was.

677

And, when they came out of the boat, straightway recognizing Him,

678

And not even so did their testimony agree.
