The Pharisee, having taken his stand, was praying these things with himself: 'God, I thank Thee that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax-collector!

587

And, having taken a cup, and giving thanks, He said, "Take this, and share it among yourselves;

589

And both the scribes and the Pharisees were murmuring, saying, "This Man receiveth sinners and eateth with them!"

590

And He spake to them this parable, saying,

591

saying, "Truly the Lord arose, and appeared to Simon."

592

Two men went up into the temple to pray; one a Pharisee, and the other a tax-collector.

593

And, before all these things, they will lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up into the synagogues and prisons, being brought before kings and governors for My name's sake.

594

"All things were delivered up to Me by My Father; and no one knows Who the Son is, but the Father; and Who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son purposeth to reveal Him."

595

Now there came to Him His mother and brothers; and they could not get to Him because of the multitude.

596

And they said, 'Lord, he has ten pounds.'

598

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the Heavenly host, praising God, and saying,

599

Salt, therefore, is good; but if even the salt become tasteless, with what shall it be seasoned?

601

to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary.

602

And he said, 'I pray you, therefore, father, that you would send him to my father's house;

605

And there was given to Him a book of the prophet Isaiah; and, opening the book, He found the place where it had been written,

606

because every one who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted."

607

And He spake also a parable to them: "Can the blind lead the blind? Will they not both fall into a pit?

608

Now they were Mary Magdalene, and Joana, and Mary the mother of James; and the rest of the women with them were telling these things to the apostles.

609

And he said to him, 'Child, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours'

610

And they will come from the east and west, and from the north and south, and shall recline at table in the Kingdom of God.

611

and, behold, a man, called by name Zacchaeus, and he was a chief tax-collector; and he was rich.

612

And of which of you that is a father shall his son ask bread, and he give him a stone? or a fish, and he, instead of a fish, give him a serpent?

613

Wherefore, I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven; because she loved much; but he, to whom little is forgiven, loves little."

614

And, while they still disbelieved for joy, and marvelled, He said to them, "Have ye here anything to eat?"

615

And all were bearing witness to Him, and were wondering at the words of grace which proceeded out of His mouth; and they said, "Is not this Joseph's Son?"

616

Be ye also ready; because at an hour ye think not the Son of Man cometh."

620

And the angel, answering, said to him, "I am Gabriel, who have been standing near before God, and I was sent to speak to you, and to proclaim these glad tidings to you.

621

And the lord praised the steward of unrighteousness, because he acted prudently; because the sons of this age are more prudent toward their own generation, than the sons of light.

622

and he from within, answering, shall say, 'Trouble me not; already the door has been shut, and my children are with me in the bed; I cannot rise and give you.'

623

And Wisdom was justified by all her children."

624

"But woe to you that are rich! because ye are receiving your consolation!

626

Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things, and enter into His glory?"

627

Or those eighteen upon whom the tower in Siloam fell and slew them, suppose ye that they were offenders above all the men dwelling in Jerusalem?

628

and Joanna wife of Chuzas Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, who were ministering to them of their substance.

629

And they said to Him, "The disciples of John fast often, and make supplications; likewise also those of the Pharisees; but Thine are eating and drinking!"

630

And there were being led two others also, malefactors, with Him to be put to death.

633

And, answering, He said to them, "Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they have suffered these things?

634

"To him who smites you on the cheek, offer also the other; and from him who takes away your cloak, withhold not your coat also.

635

forasmuch as a friend of mine came to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him;'

636

I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."

637

But of a truth I say to you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine upon all the land;

638

and standing behind at His feet weeping, she began to wet His feet with her tears, and wiped them off with the hair of her head; and she kept kissing His feet, and anointing them with the perfume.

639

"And those on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root; who, for a season, believe, and in time of temptation fall away.

641

for I have five brothers; that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torment.'

642

On this account also the wisdom of God said, 'I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them will they slay, and some will they persecute;

643

And it came to pass that, as He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples,

645

who, appearing in glory, were speaking of His departure which He was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

647

And, crying, he said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; because I am in anguish in this flame!'

650

And, returning, they prepared spices and perfumes; and, on the sabbath they rested according to the commandment.

651

because the Son of Man, indeed, is going according as it has been determined; but woe to that man through whom He is betrayed!"

652

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the law blameless.

653

And one of them, seeing that he was cleansed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice,

654

And, seeing it, His disciples, James and John, said, "Lord, dost Thou wish that we bid fire come down from heaven, and consume them?"

655

And it came to pass, on one of the days, as He was teaching the people in the temple, and proclaiming the Gospel, that there came upon Him the high priests and the scribes with the elders,

657

that ye may eat and drink at My table in My Kingdom; and ye shall sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

659

And He said to them, "Ye will doubtless say to Me this parable, 'Physician, heal Thyself: whatsoever we heard of as done in Capernaum, do also here in Thy own country.'"

661

And, behold, a woman who was in the city, a sinner; and, learning that He was reclining at table in the house of the Pharisee, having provided an alabaster cruse of perfume;

664

He succored Israel His servant, to remember mercy,

665

And it came to pass, on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they were calling him Zacharias, after the name of his father.

669

But know this, that, if the householder had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

670

Then will they begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us;' and to the hills, 'Cover us;'

671

And He spake also a parable to them: "No one, rending a piece from a new garment, puts it on an old garment; else both the new will cause a rent, and the piece from the new will not agree with the old.

673

And it came to pass, while they were perplexed about this, behold, also two men stood near them in dazzling apparel.

674

but those accounted worthy to obtain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage;

675

But who is there of you, having a servant plowing, or tending sheep, that will say to him, having come in from the field, 'Coming straightway, recline at table;'

677

And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

679

But the Lord said to him, "Now ye, the Pharisees, cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish; but your inward part is full of extortion and wickedness.

680

And they began to accuse Him, saying, "We found This Man perverting our nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, and saying that He Himself is Christ a King!"

681

And soldiers also were questioning him, saying, "And what shall we do?" And he said to them, "Do violence to no one, neither accuse any one falsely, and be content with your wages."

682

And He said, "Take heed that ye be not led astray; for many will come in My name, saying, 'I am He,' and, 'The season has drawn near!' Go not after them.

683

But Peter, rising up, ran to the tomb; and, stooping down to look in, he sees the linen bandages alone, and he departed to his home, wondering at what had happened.

684

And Jesus said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage;

685

And Pilate said to the high priests and to the multitudes, "I find no fault in This Man."

686

And the Lord said, "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye would say to this sycamine tree, 'Be rooted up, and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.

687

I say to you, even if he will not, rising up, give to him because of his being his friend; yet, because of his importunity, he, rousing himself, will give him as many as he needs.

688

"Woe to you when all men speak well of you; for in this same manner were their fathers wont to do to the false prophets.

689

I say to you, this man went down justified to his house, rather than the other; because every one who exalts himself shall be humbled, but he who humbles himself shall be exalted."

690

the son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son of Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon,

691

And, watching Him, they sent forth spies, feigning themselves to be righteous, that they might take hold of His speech, so as to deliver Him up to the rule and the authority of the governor.

693

And there was following Him a great multitude of people, and of women, who bewailed and lamented Him

694

And, when they bring you in before the synagogues, and the rulers, and the authorities, be not anxious how or what ye shall answer, or what ye shall say;

695

And, when it was day, the eldership of the people was gathered together, both high priests and scribes; and they led Him away into their Sanhedrin, saying,

696

saying, "Blessed is the King Who is coming in the name of the Lord! Peace in Heaven, and glory in the highest!"

697

But nothing has been covered up, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.

698

"For there is no good tree that bears corrupt fruit; nor again a corrupt tree that bears good fruit;

699

And it came to pass on the next day, when they came down from the mountain, that a great multitude met Him.

700

Now Herod, the tetrarch, heard of all the things that were taking place; and he was thoroughly perplexed, because it was said by some that John was raised from the dead;

701

"Woe to you lawyers; because ye took away the Key of Knowledge; ye yourselves entered not in, and those who were entering ye hindered."

703

And He spake this parable: "A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came seeking fruit thereon, and found none.

705

But Mary was closely keeping all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.

706

And the centurion, beholding what took place, glorified God, saying, "Truly This was a righteous Man!"

707

And there entered a reasoning among them, as to which of them should be greatest.

709

And Pilate asked Him, saying, "Art Thou the King of the Jews?" And He, answering, said to him, "You say it."

710

And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also were scoffing at Him, saying, "He saved others; let Him save Himself! if This is the Christ of God, the Chosen!"

711

And, calling him, he said to him, 'What is this I hear of you? Render the account of your stewardship; for you can be no longer steward.'

712

And John, answering, said, "Master, we saw one casting out demons in Thy name; and we forbade him, because he follows not with us."

714

And He spake a parable to them: "Behold the fig tree and all the trees;

715

And, behold, Elizabeth, your kinswoman, she also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren;

716

But, coming to himself, he said, 'How many hired servants of my father have a superabundance of bread, and I am perishing here with hunger!

717

saying, "If you knew, in this your day??ven you??he things pertaining to peace! but just now were they hid from your eyes!

718

And, when He ceased speaking, He said to Simon, "Put out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught."

719

And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her house.

720

And He said to them, "When I sent you forth without purse, and wallet, and sandals, did ye lack anything?" And they said, "Nothing."

721

And it came to pass, when the angels went away from them into Heaven, that the shepherds were saying one to another, "Let us go over at once to Bethlehem, and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord made known to us."

722

And, answering, He said, "I tell you that, if these shall be silent, the stones will cry out!"

723

And He said to them, "Going your way, tell this fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons, and perfect cures, to-day and to-morrow; and on the third day I am made perfect.

724

And the Devil said to Him, "To Thee will I give all this authority, and the glory of them; because to me it has been delivered, and to whomsoever I will I give it.

725

And He said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you; go in peace."

726

the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah,

727

But Pilate, hearing it, asked if the Man were a Galilaean.

728

And, day coming on, going forth, He went into a desert place; and the multitudes were seeking after Him, and came to Him, and were trying to restrain Him from going away from them.

730

Take heed, therefore, how ye hear; for whosoever has, to him shall be given; and whosoever has not, even what he seems to have shall be taken from him."

731

but of one thing there is need; for Mary chose the good part, which, indeed, shall not be taken away from her."

734

And they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish;

735

While He was yet speaking, behold, a multitude, and he who is called Judas, one of the twelve, was coming before them; and he drew near to Jesus to kiss Him.

Whose fan is in His hand, thoroughly to cleanse His threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into His granary; but the chaff He will burn up with unquenchable fire."

738

And it came to pass on another sabbath, that He entered into the synagogue, and taught. And there was a man there, and his right hand was withered.

739

and He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever; and of His Kingdom there shall be no end."

740

And He said to the multitudes also, "When ye see a cloud rising in the west, straightway ye say 'A shower is coming!' and so it happens.

741

And they understood none of these things; and this saying was hidden from them, and they were not understanding the things being said.

742

Likewise, also, as it happened in the days of Lot; they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building;

743

and likewise also James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Fear not; henceforth you will catch men."

746

And Jesus said to him, "To-day salvation came to this house, inasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham;

747

and the high priests and scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were fearing the people.

749

I tell you, nay; but, unless ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."

750

But He said to them, "The kings of the gentiles exercise lordship over them; and those having authority over them are called 'Benefactors.'

751

And was it not right that this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound, lo, eighteen years, should have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath?"

752

the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

753

And, when ye hear of wars and tumults, be not terrified; for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not straight-way."

755

And instantly he received sight, and was following Him, glorifying God. And all the people, seeing it, gave praise to God.

756

And, as the sun was setting, all, as many as had any ailing with divers diseases, brought them to Him; and He, laying His hands on each one of them, was healing them.

757

And the soldiers also were mocking Him, coming near, and offering Him vinegar,

758

For whosoever wishes to save his soul shall lose it; but whosoever will lose his soul for My sake, the same shall save it.

759

And, hearing a multitude passing along, he was inquiring what this might be.

761

And Herod with his soldiers, having set Him at naught, and having mocked Him, having thrown over Him a gorgeous robe, sent Him back to Pilate.

762

But the Lord, answering, said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things;

763

and He said to them, "Who of you shall have an ass or an ox fall into a well, and he will not straight-way draw him up on a sabbath day?"

764

to show mercy towards our fathers, and to remember His holy covenant;

765

Happy are those servants, whom their lord, when coming, shall find watching! Verily I say to you, that he will gird himself, and make them recline; and, coming near, he will serve them.

767

But Abraham says, 'They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.'

768

as it has been written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare ye the way of the Lord; make straight His paths.

776

And they said, "Lord, behold, here are two swords." And He said to them, "It is enough."

779

But henceforth the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God."

780

And Zacharias, his father, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and he prophesied, saying,

781

and happy shall you be; because they have not wherewith to recompense you; for recompense will be made to you in the resurrection of the righteous."

782

But it was meet to make merry, and rejoice; because this your brother was dead, and came to life again; and had been lost, and was found."

783

He is not here, but was raised. Remember how He spake to you, being yet in Galilee,

785

And, as they became afraid, and were bowing their faces to the earth, they said to them, "Why are ye seeking the Living among the dead?

786

and, returning from the tomb, they reported all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.

788

And these words appeared in their view as idle talk; and they were disbelieving them.

795

And, as He was entering into a certain village, there met Him ten leprous men, who stood afar off;

796

and said to them, "Whosoever shall receive this child in My name, receives Me; and whosoever receives Me receives Him who sent Me; for he that is least among you all, the same is great."

803

But we were hoping that it was He Who was about to redeem Israel; yea, indeed, and besides all these things, it is now the third day since these things came to pass.

804

And I tell you truly, there are some of those standing here who will in no wise taste of death, till they see the Kingdom of God."

805

And He, looking upon them, said, "What, then, is this that has been written? 'A stone which the builders rejected, the same became a head of the corner.'

806

And the men who were holding Jesus were mocking Him, beating Him;

807

And in the synagogue there was a man having a spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud voice,

814

And, in all these things, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed; so that those wishing to cross from hence to you cannot; nor do they pass from thence to us.'

819

And every one who shall say a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but to him who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven.

820

And, on the morrow, taking out two denaries, he gave them to the host, and said, 'Take care of him; and whatsoever you expend additional, I, when I return, will repay you.'

822

And he would not for a time; but afterward he said within himself, 'Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

825

I say to you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; but the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he."

826

"Ha! what is there to us and to Thee, Jesus, Nazarene! Didst Thou come to destroy us? I know Thee, Who Thou art, the Holy One of God!"

852

and they will dash you to the ground, and your children within you; and shall not leave in you a stone upon a stone; because you knew not the season of your visitation."

853

And He said, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead; but, going, publish abroad the Kingdom of God."

854

"Give to every one who asks of you; and of him who takes away your goods, ask them not back.

And all those acquainted with Him stood afar off, and the women who followed with Him from Galilee, seeing these things.

857

And He said, "Woe to you lawyers, also! because ye burden men with burdens hard to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers!

And, behold, there was before Him a certain man who had the dropsy.

862

865

And He sent Peter and John, saying, "Going forth, make ready for us the passover, that we may eat."

866

And the women who had accompanied Him out of Galilee, following after, beheld the tomb, and how His body was laid.

867

But they were the more urgent, saying, "He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout the whole of Judaea, and beginning from Galilee even to this place."

868

and He sent forth messengers before His face; and, journeying onward, they entered into a village of Samaritans, so as to prepare for Him.

869

for no longer were they daring to question Him.

870

But they cried out again with all the multitude, saying, "Away with Him! and release to us Barabbas!"??19 one who, indeed, because of a certain insurrection made in the city, and of murder, was cast into prison.

871

And they asked Him, saying, "Teacher, when, therefore, will these things be, and what is the sign, when all these things are about to come to pass?"

872

And, turning to the woman, He said to Simon, "Do you behold this woman! I entered into your house, you gave Me no water for My feet; but this woman wet My feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair.

873

But, when you are invited, going, sit in the lowest place, that, when he who invited you comes, he may say to you, 'Friend, go up higher;' then you will have glory in the presence of all who are reclining at table with you;

874

that the blood of all the prophets, which has been shed from the founding of the world, may be required of this generation??51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zachariah who perished between the altar and the house??ea, I say to you, it shall be required of this generation.'

875

I say to you, in that night there will be two men on one bed; the one will be taken, and the other will be left.

876

And, rising up that same hour, they returned to Jerusalem; and they found the eleven gathered together, and those with them,

877

"When you are bidden by any one to a marriage feast, sit not on the first seat, lest possibly a more honorable man than you may have been invited by him;

878

And the scribes and the high priests sought to lay hands on Him in that very hour; and they feared the people; for they knew that He spake the parable against them.

879

and they were astonished at His teaching, because His word was with authority.

880

because He looked upon the lowliness of His handmaid; for, behold, from the present time all generations will call me happy;

881

And he cried, saying, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

882

And all the multitudes, coming together to this sight, viewing the things that took place, were returning, smiting their breasts.

883

And he said to the vinedresser, 'Behold, these three years I come, seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none; cut it down; why does it also make the land useless?'

884

But a certain Samaritan, going on his way, came down to him; and, seeing him, he was moved with compassion;

888

Then He said to them, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;

889

because this my son was dead, and came to life again; had been lost, and was found.' And they began to be merry.

890

Which, therefore, of these three seems to you to have become neighbor of him who fell among the robbers?"

891

If, therefore, ye were not faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you the true riches?

894

"Put ye these words into your ears; for the Son of Man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men."

895

And He said to them, "Behold, when ye have entered into the city, there will meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house into which he enters.

898

But, if that servant should say in his heart, My lord is delaying to come, and shall begin to beat the manservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

899

And happy is she who believed, because there shall be a fulfillment of the things spoken to her from the Lord!"

900

the lord of that servant will come in a day when he is not expecting him, and in an hour which he knows not, and will cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the unfaithful.

901

And this is the sign to you: ye will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, and lying in a manger."

902

And, turning, the Lord looked upon Peter: and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He said to him, "Before a cock shall crow to-day, you will thrice deny Me."

903

But his citizens were hating him, and sent an embassy after him, saying, 'We do not wish this man to be king over us.'

904

And some of those with us went away to the tomb, and found it even so as the women said; but Him they saw not."

905

And it came to pass, as they were parting from Him, that Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here; and let us make three tents; one for Thee, one for Moses, and one for Elijah;" not knowing what he was saying.

906

Verily I say to you, this generation will in no wise pass away, till all come to pass.

907

he is like a man building a house, who dug and went deep, and laid a foundation on the rock; and, a flood coming, the stream broke against that house, and could not shake it; because it was well built.

908

Verily I say to you, whosoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child, shall in no wise enter therein."

909

And one of them, Cleopas by name, said to Him, "Art Thou only a Stranger in Jerusalem, and knowest not the things that came to pass there in these days?"

910

in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness;

911

said to them, "Ye brought to me This Man as One perverting the people and, behold, I, having examined Him before you, found no fault in This Man regarding those things of which ye accuse Him;

912

And the Lord said, "Hear what the judge of unrighteousness says.

913

And, taking it down, he wrapped it in fine linen, and placed Him in a tomb, hewn in a stone, where no one was yet laid.

914

And it came to pass, while they were conversing and reasoning together, that Jesus Himself, drawing near, was journeying with them;

915

for all these, out of their superabundance, cast into the gifts; but she, out of her poverty, cast in all the living that she had."

916

And it came to pass, while they were there, that the days were fulfilled for her to give birth;

918

and all who heard laid them up in their heart, saying, "What, then, shall this child be!" For, indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him.

920

but their eyes were holden that they should not recognize Him.

921

And, in like manner, a Levite also, coming to the place, and seeing him, passed by on the opposite side.

922

"And, if ye lend to those from whom ye hope to receive, what charm have you? even the sinners lend to sinners, that they may receive back as much.

924

And they went on to another village.

926

Or how can you say to your brother, 'Brother, suffer me to cast out the mote that is in your eye,' when you yourself do not see the beam in your own eye? Hypocrite! cast first the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to cast out the mote that is in your brother's eye.

927

and, departing, he consulted with the high priests and captains, how he might deliver Him up to them.

928

And amazement came upon all; and they were talking together, one with another, saying, "What is this word, that with authority and power He commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out!"

929

"No one, having lighted a lamp, puts it in a cellar, or under a measure, but on a lamp-stand, that those who enter may see the light.

930

"Beware of the scribes, who wish to walk about in long robes, and love salutations in the marketplaces, and first seats in the synagogues, and first places at feasts;

931

And they all said, "Art Thou, therefore, the Son of God?" And He said to them, "Ye say that I am."

932

And, arising from prayer, and coming to the disciples, He found them sleeping for grief,

934

and, coming to his house, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, because I found my sheep, which was lost.

935

Now Peter and those with him had become heavy with sleep; but, having watched through it, they saw His glory, and the two men who were standing with Him.

936

And no one, having drunk old wine, wishes new; for he says, 'The old is mellow.'

937

And the younger said to his father, 'Father, give me the portion of the estate that falls to me.' And he divided to them his living.

938

yet, because this widow occasions me trouble, I will avenge her, lest, by her persistent coming, she wear me out.'"

939

But Jesus, answering, said, "Suffer ye thus far." And, touching the ear, He healed him.

940

And it was a day of Preparation, and a sabbath was approaching.

941

And Herod and Pilate became friends with each other on that day; for before they were at enmity between themselves.

942

the son of Methuselah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan,

944

saying to them, "It has been written, 'And My house shall be a house of prayer;' but ye made it a den of robbers."

945

And, while all the people were hearing, He said to the disciples,

946

In the resurrection, therefore, whose wife of them does the woman become? for the seven had her as wife."

947

"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you Bethsaida! because, if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

948

They are like children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, who say, 'We piped to you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not weep.'

949

And Jesus, answering, said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." And he says, "Teacher, say it."

950

Because the days will come upon you, when your enemies will cast a rampart about you, and compass you round, and hem you in on all sides;

951

"Every one who comes to Me, and hears My words, and does them, I will show you to whom he is like:

953

And, going his way, he attached himself to one of the citizens of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine.

955

And, asking for a writing tablet, he wrote, saying, "John is his name." And they all marveled.

956

And, running before, he climbed up into a sycamore tree, that he might see Him; because He was about to pass along that way.

957

For David himself says in the book of Psalms, 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit Thou on My right hand,

958

And Jesus said to him, "Forbid him not: for he who is not against you is for you."

959

And he was seeking to see Jesus, Who He was; and was not able on account of the multitude; because he was small in stature.

960

And ye will be hated by all for My name's sake.

961

And a certain maid, seeing him sitting by the light, and looking intently at him, said, "This man also was with Him."

962

after the same manner shall it be in the day the Son of Man is revealed.

963

Senseless ones! Did not He who made the outside make the inside also?

965

I resolved what to do; that, when I am removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.'

966

And, if he shall come in the second watch, and if in the third, and find them so, happy are they!

967

And Jesus rebuked it, saying, "Be silent, and come out from him." And the demon, hurling him into the midst, came out from him, having injured him naught.

968

And, finding it, he places it upon his shoulders, rejoicing:

969

And He said, "Verily I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his own country.

970

I tell you, you will in no wise come out thence, till you shall pay even the last mite."

971

And they told him, that Jesus the Nazarene was passing by.

972

And Jesus said to the high priests and captains of the temple and elders, who came up against Him, "Did ye come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?

974

But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God as to themselves, not having been immersed by him.

976

And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and was glorifying God.

977

And ye shall say to the master of the house, The Teacher saith to you, 'Where is the guest-chamber, where I may eat the passover with My disciples?'

978

And they were all amazed at the Majesty of God! And while all were marvelling at all the things which He was doing, He said to His disciples,

979

And those about Him, seeing what was about to follow, said, "Lord, shall we smite with the sword?"

980

Chastising Him, therefore, I will release Him"

981

And he said, 'A hundred measures of oil.' And he said to him, 'Take your accounts, and, sitting down, quickly write, Fifty.'

982

Then let those in Judaea flee into the mountains; and let those in the midst of it depart; and let not those in the country enter therein;

983

the sun's light failing. And the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.

984

'Every one who falls on that stone shall be broken to pieces; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will scatter him as dust!'

985

And, answering, Jesus spake to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, "Is it lawful on the sabbath to heal or not?"

986

And He said to them, "What words are these which ye are exchanging one with another, as ye walk?" And they stood still, with sad faces.

987

And his mother, answering, said; "No; but he shall be called John."

988

For, behold, as the voice of your salutation came into my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy!

989

And they remembered His words;

990

But they were silent. And, taking hold of him, He healed him, and let him go;

991

Settle it, therefore, in your hearts, not to meditate beforehand how to make a defense;

992

"And no one puts new wine into old wine-skins; else the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be poured out, and the skins will perish.

993

And Jesus said to them, "Can ye make the sons of the bride-chamber fast, while the bridegroom is with them?

995

And, behold, there came a man whose name was Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue; and, falling down near Jesus' feet, he was beseeching Him to come into his house;

996

And he will show you a large upper room furnished, there make ready."

997

Now, while he was saying these things, there came a cloud, and it was overshadowing them; and they feared, as they entered into the cloud.

999

And, as He was already drawing nigh to the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples, rejoicing, began to praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works which they saw;

1000

And the Pharisee, seeing it, marvelled that He was not first immersed before breakfast.

1001

(the same had not consented to their plan and deed), from Arimathaea, a city of the Jews, who was waiting for the Kingdom of God:

1002

And Jesus, answering, said, "Were not the ten cleansed? Where are the nine?

1003

and spake, saying to Him, "Tell us by what authority Thou art doing these things, or who gave Thee this authority?"

1004

(as He spake through the mouth of His holy prophets from of old),

1005

And the steward said in himself, 'What shall I do? because my lord takes away the stewardship from me! To dig, I have not strength; to beg, I am ashamed!

1006

And, standing over her, He rebuked the fever, and it left her; and, immediately rising up, she was ministering to them.

1007

And, calling to him each one of his lord's debtors, he said to the first, 'How much do you owe my lord?'

1008

But they were urgent, with loud voices, asking that He might be crucified. And their voices prevailed.

1009

And He said, "Truly I say to you, this poor widow cast in more than they all;

1010

"And the lord of the vineyard said, 'What shall I do? I will send my son, the beloved; perhaps they will reverence him.'

1011

"Woe to you Pharisees! because ye love the first seats in the synagogues, and the salutations in the marketplaces!

1012

and fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him; and he was a Samaritan.

1013

in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.

1014

While He is yet speaking, there comes one from the ruler of the synagogue, saying, "Your daughter has died; trouble not the Teacher."

1015

And, while he was yet coming, the demon thrust him down, and greatly convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.

1016

And Jesus, seeing her, called and said to her, "Woman, you have been loosed from your infirmity."

1017

And another said, "I will follow Thee, Lord; but first permit me to bid adieu to those within my house."

1018

OMITTED TEXT.

1019

(as He spake to our fathers), to Abraham and to his seed forever."

1020

And, behold, a man from the multitude cried, saying, "Teacher, I pray Thee to look upon my son, because he is my only begotten.

1023

because he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying! But, as He was going away, the multitudes were thronging.

1024

And, learning that He was of Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him up to Herod, who also was in Jerusalem in these days.

1025

And if, indeed, it bear fruit for the future, well; but, if not, you shall cut it down.'"
