And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

The Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Then Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming around on the earth and from walking around on it.”

And LORD said to Satan, From where did thou come? And Satan answered LORD, and said, From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.

But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.

Thus they lifted up their eyes from afar, but they did not recognize him, so they raised their voice, and they wept, and each man tore his outer garment and threw dust on their heads {toward the sky}.

because it did not shut the doors of my [mother's] womb, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes.

Or [why] was I not hidden like a miscarriage, like infants [who] did not see [the] light?

I was not in safety, nor did I have rest, nor was I quiet; yet trouble comes.

Did not their remainder in them remove? They will die, and not in wisdom.

At least I could still take comfort and rejoice in unceasing anguish, for I didn't conceal what the Holy One has to say.

Did I say, Bring unto me? or, Give a reward for me of your substance?

Did you intend your words to reprove, even though the speech of a desperate person is just wind?

When thy sons sinned against him, did not he punish them for their wickedness?

He did great things even not searched out; and wonders even no number.

Did you not pour me out like milk and {curdle me} like cheese?

If I did evil, wo to me; and was I just, I shall not lift up my head, being filled with dishonor: and see thou mine affliction;

Who knew not in all these that the hand of God did this?

Were you the first man to come into the world? or did you come into being before the hills?

which is what wise men have explained, who didn't withhold anything from their ancestors.

Did not ye say, "Why doth he suffer persecution?" Is there found an occasion against me?

"Did you know this from of old, since the setting of [the] human being on earth,

The bread that he did eat is turned to the poison of serpents, within his body.


“There is nothing left of what he devoured;
Therefore his prosperity does not endure.

Did, I, unto man, make my complaint? Wherefore, then, should my spirit not be impatient?

Did you not ask those who go by the way? And do you not know their signs,

Who shall announce his way upon his face? and who shall requite to him that he did?

Did it please to the Almighty that thou wilt be just? and if gain if thou wilt perfect thy ways?

which said unto God, 'Go from us.' And what did the Almighty do with them?

Saying , Surely they that did rise up against us are cut off, And the remnant of them the fire hath consumed.

Because I was not cut off before the darkness, Neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.

He did evil to the barren; she will not bear: andhewill not do good to the widow.

Who did you speak these words to?
Whose breath came out of your mouth?

Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.

The voice of nobles, was hushed, and their tongue to their palate, did cleave;


“After I spoke, they did not speak again,
And my speech dropped upon them [like a refreshing shower].


“I smiled at them when they did not believe,
And they did not diminish the light of my face.

I cried to You, and You did not hear me; I stood up, and You did not consider me.

My bowels boiled, and did not rest; the days of trouble confront me.

Verily I walked not in falsity, nor did my foot haste unto deceit: -

If my going will incline from the way, and my heart went after mine eyes, and a blemish did cleave upon my hands:

If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

If I kept my food for myself, and did not give some of it to the child with no father;

if he did not bless me
while warming himself with the fleece from my sheep,

Did I ever lift up my hand to hurt the fatherless; yea, in the gates where I saw myself to be in authority?

Did I ever greatly regard the rising of the sun? Or, had I the going down of the moon in great reputation?

Hath my heart meddled privily with any deceit? Or, did I ever kiss mine own hand?

(For I did not let my mouth give way to sin, in putting a curse on his life;)

If the men of my tent did not say, Who has not had full measure of his meat?

"Have I kept secret my sin, and hid mine iniquity as Adam did?

Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

If, against me, my ground used to cry out, and, together, my ridges did weep;

Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered, "I am young, and you are very old; Therefore I held back, and didn't dare show you my opinion.

But he did not direct [his] words to me, and I will not answer him with your words.

For I am not able to give names of honour to any man; and if I did, my Maker would quickly take me away.


“He sings out to other men,
‘I have sinned and perverted that which was right,
And it was not proper for me!

because they turned aside from following Him
and did not understand any of His ways

Besides I shall see thou wilt teach it to me: if I did iniquity, I will not add.

Should he be told that I want to speak? Or did a man say that he would be communicated with?

From whose womb did the ice come forth, and who fathered [the] frost of heaven?

Have you knowledge of the laws of the heavens? did you give them rule over the earth?

To whom did I set the desert his house, and the salt land his dwellings?

because God made it forget wisdom, and he did not give it a share in understanding.


“Behold now, Behemoth, which I created as well as you;
He eats grass like an ox.

Who is he that obscureth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered what I did not understand; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

After these words had been spoken by the LORD to Job, the LORD spoke to Eliphaz from Teman: "My anger is burning against you along with your two friends, since you haven't spoken correctly about me, as did my servant Job.

So take seven bulls and seven rams and bring them to my servant Job. And bring a whole burnt offering for yourselves and my servant Job will pray for you. I'll encourage him by not responding as your disgraceful folly deserves, since you didn't speak about me correctly as did my servant Job."

So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.

Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.
