And thou, child, shalt be called a prophet of the Most High; for thou shalt go in advance before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,

to give light to those sitting in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths!

Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked places shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth;

And not finding any way to bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with the couch into the midst before Jesus.

This is he of whom it is written, "Lo! I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee."

And they told what had happened on the way, and how he became known to them in the breaking of the bread.
