He rescued me from my strong enemy, from those who hate me, for they were too strong for me.

I will follow upon mine enemies, and overtake them; neither will I turn again till I have destroyed them. {TYNDALE: I followed mine enemies and destroyed them, and turned not again until I had consumed them.}

Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.

Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

In my alarm I had said,
“I am cut off from Your sight.”
But You heard the sound of my pleading
when I cried to You for help.

For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul.

Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.

False witnesses got up: they put questions to me about crimes of which I had no knowledge.


But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth (mourning garment);
I humbled my soul with fasting,
And I prayed with my head bowed on my chest.


Wait for and expect the Lord and keep His way,
And He will exalt you to inherit the land;
[In the end] when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.

Then I passed by, and lo! he had vanished! Yea I sought him, but he could not be found.

Keep innocency, and take heed unto the thing that is right; for that shall bring a man peace at the last.

And the Lord will be their help, and keep them safe: he will take them out of the hands of the evil-doers, and be their saviour, because they had faith in him.

For mine iniquities passed over my head: as a heavy lifting up they will be loaded above me.

But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

I was mute and silent [before my enemies],
I refrained even from good,
And my distress grew worse.

You had no desire for offerings of beasts or fruits of the earth; ears you made for me: for burned offerings and sin offerings you made no request.

I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.

For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
