27761

Let them [reverently] praise Your great and awesome name;
Holy is He.

27762

I will establish your seed forever
And I will build up your throne for all generations.” Selah.

27763

Your way [of escape for Your people] was through the sea,
And Your paths through the great waters,
And Your footprints were not traceable.

27764

For in Him our heart rejoices,
Because we trust [lean on, rely on, and are confident] in His holy name.

27765

I hate the company of evildoers,
And will not sit with the wicked.

27766

‘If evil comes on us, or the sword of judgment, or plague, or famine, we will stand before this house and before You (for Your Name and Your Presence is in this house) and we will cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear and save us.’

27767

Then the two choirs stood in the house of God. So did I, and half of the officials with me;

27768

His officers also contributed a voluntary offering to the people, the priests and the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, the officials of the house of God, gave to the priests for the Passover offerings 2,600 from the flocks [of lambs and young goats], and 300 bulls.

27769

“Behold, we are slaves today,
And as for the land which You gave our fathers, to eat of its fruit and its goodness,
Behold, we are slaves in it.

27770

Has the same Hezekiah not taken away his [Baal’s] high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, “You shall worship before [only] one altar and burn incense on it”?

27771

Shimei the Ramathite was in charge of the vineyards; Zabdi the Shiphmite was in charge of the produce of the vineyards for the wine cellars.

27776

And he said, “Whether they have come out for peace or for war, take them alive.”

27777

For all of you have conspired against me so that no one informs me when my son [Jonathan] makes a covenant with the son of Jesse. None of you cares about me or informs me that my son has stirred up my servant against me to lie in ambush, as he does this day?”

27778

Ephah, Caleb’s concubine, gave birth to Haran, Moza, and Gazez; Haran became the father of Gazez.

27784

If the person is between five years and twenty years of age, then your valuation for the male shall be twenty shekels and for the female ten shekels.

27787

But among these there was not a man [left] of those numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel [for the first time] in the Wilderness of Sinai.

and spice and [olive] oil for the light and for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense.

27790

And he put them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod to be memorial stones (a remembrance) for the sons of Israel (Jacob), just as the Lord had commanded Moses.

27791

They received from Moses all the offerings which the Israelites had brought for the construction of the sanctuary, to prepare it for service. And they continued to bring him freewill (voluntary) offerings every morning.

27792

And that the land was pleasant,
He bowed his shoulder to bear [burdens],
And became a servant at forced labor.

27793

To each of them Joseph gave changes of clothing, but to Benjamin he gave three hundred pieces of silver and five changes of clothing.

After he had buried his father, Joseph returned to Egypt, he and his brothers, and all who had gone up with him.

27797

So Jacob named the place where God had spoken with him, Bethel (the House of God).

“And beside the border of Judah, from the east side to the west side, shall be the allotment and contribution of land which you shall set apart and offer, 25,000 cubits in width, and in length like one of the [tribal] portions, from the east side to the west side; and the sanctuary shall be in the midst of it.

27799

“For forty years I was grieved and disgusted with that generation,
And I said, ‘They are a people who err in their heart,

None of his sins that he has committed will be remembered against him. He has practiced that which is just (fair) and right; he will most certainly live.

27803

They were haughty and committed repulsive acts before Me; therefore I removed them when I saw it.

27804

27805

Elam [a conquest of Assyria] is there and all her hordes around her grave; all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who have gone down uncircumcised to the lower parts of the earth, who made their terror spread in the land of the living and bore their shame and defeat with those who went down to the pit.

27806

You have made us scum and refuse
Among the peoples (Gentile nations).

27807

“All who found them have devoured them;
And their adversaries have said, ‘We are not guilty,
Because they have sinned against the Lord [and are no longer holy to Him], their [true] habitation of righteousness and justice,
Even the Lord, the [confident] hope of their fathers.’

27808

I will send the sword, famine and virulent disease among them until they are consumed from the land which I gave to them and to their fathers.’”

27809

Then some of the elders of the land stood up and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying,

27810

Return to Him from whom you have so deeply defected, O sons of Israel.

27811

My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
And all flesh will bless and gratefully praise His holy name forever and ever.

27812

Restore us, O God of hosts;
And cause Your face to shine on us [with favor and approval], and we will be saved.

27813

“For they call themselves [citizens of Jerusalem] after the holy city
And depend on the God of Israel;
The Lord of hosts is His name.

27814

“With rebukes You discipline man for sin;
You consume like a moth what is precious to him;
Surely every man is a mere breath [a wisp of smoke, a vapor that vanishes]. Selah.

27817

The humble have seen it and are glad;
You who seek God [requiring Him as your greatest need], let your heart revive and live.

27818

Lord, how long will You look on [without action]?
Rescue my life from their destructions,
My only life from the young lions.

27819

Let me not be put to shame, O Lord, for I call on You;
Let the wicked (godless) be put to shame, let them be silent in Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead).

27820

I will wash my hands in innocence,
And I will go about Your altar, O Lord,

27821

“Behind him he makes a shining wake;
One would think the deep to be gray-haired [with foam].

27822

Some of the heads of fathers’ households gave to the treasury for the work 20,000 gold drachmas and 2,200 silver minas.

27823

“Behold, all of you have seen it;
Why then do you act vainly and foolishly [cherishing worthless concepts]?

27824

Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat,

27825

the sons of Neziah, Hatipha.

27826

The Levites stood with the musical instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets.

27827

And many brought gifts to the Lord at Jerusalem and valuable presents to Hezekiah king of Judah; so from then on he was exalted in the sight of all nations.

27828

Joash was hidden with them in the house (temple) of God for six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land.

27829

He said, “Let him alone; let no one disturb his bones.” So they left his bones undisturbed, with the bones of the prophet who came from Samaria.

27830

(for they will hear of Your great name, Your strong hand [of power], and outstretched arm); when he comes and prays toward this house (temple),

27831

The sons of Shemer (Shomer) [his brother]: Ahi and Rohgah, Jehubbah, and Aram.

27832

To the rest of the Levites, the sons of Merari were given, from the tribe of Zebulun: Rimmono and Tabor, with their pasture lands;

27833

When he brought David down, the Amalekites had disbanded and spread over all the land, eating and drinking and dancing because of all the great spoil they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah.

27834

‘Cursed is he who strikes his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’

27835

Jacob said, “Look, the sun is still high [overhead]; it is a long time before the flocks need to be gathered [in their folds for the night]. Water the sheep, and go, and return them to their pasture.”

27836

girded with belts on their loins, with flowing turbans on their heads, all of them looking like officers, like the Babylonian men whose native land was Chaldea.

27837

Now one of Joab’s young men stood by him and said, “Whoever favors Joab and is for David, let him follow Joab!”

27838

So Joseph went up [to Canaan] to bury his father, and with him went all the officials of Pharaoh, [the nobles of his court and] the elders of his household and all [the nobles and] the elders of the land of Egypt—

27839

Then Joseph took the boys [from his father’s embrace], and he bowed [before him] with his face to the ground.

27840

and they said to him, “Joseph is still alive, and indeed he is ruler over all the land of Egypt.” But Jacob was stunned and his heart almost stopped beating, because he did not believe them.

27841

But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left some of the poorest of the land to be vinedressers and farmers.

27842

Bilhah, Rachel’s maid, conceived again and gave birth to a second son for Jacob.

27843

Then she conceived again and gave birth to a son and named him Onan.

27844

The thresholds, the latticed windows, and the galleries all around their three stories, opposite the threshold, were paneled with wood all around, and from the ground to the windows (but the windows were covered),

27845

For the Lord is going to destroy Babylon and make her a ruin,
And He will still her great voice [that hums with city life].
And the waves [of her conquerors] roar like great waters,
The noise of their voices is raised up [like the marching of an army].

27846

The Lord has opened His armory
And has brought out [the nations who unknowingly are] the weapons of His indignation (wrath),
For it is a work of the Lord God of hosts
In the land of the Chaldeans.

27847

Then King Zedekiah commanded, and they committed Jeremiah to the court of the guardhouse, and a [round] loaf of bread from the bakers’ street was given to him daily, until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained [imprisoned] in the court of the guardhouse.

He has destroyed your strongholds.

27850

So Nebuzaradan the captain of the bodyguard sent word, along with Nebushazban the Rab-saris (chief of the high officials), and Nergal-sar-ezer the Rab-mag (chief of the magicians), and all the leading officers of the king of Babylon;

Dragged off and thrown out beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

As [sure as] fire kindles the brushwood, as fire causes water to boil—
To make Your name known to Your adversaries,
That the nations may tremble at Your presence!

27855

“Have you not heard [says the God of Israel]
That I did it long ago,
That I planned it in ancient times?
Now I have brought it to pass,
That you [king of Assyria] would [be My instrument to] turn fortified cities into ruinous heaps.

27856

Their webs will not serve as clothing,
Nor will they cover themselves with what they make;
Their works are works of wickedness [of sin, of injustice, of wrongdoing],
And the act of violence is in their hands.

27857

Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad [in Aram]? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? And when have they rescued Samaria from my hand?

27858

Your sons have fainted;
They lie helpless at the head of every street,
Like an antelope in a net,
Full [from drinking] of the wrath of the Lord,
The rebuke of your God.

27859

“About whom were you worried and fearful
That you lied and did not remember Me,
Nor give Me a thought?
Was I not silent even for a long time
And [as a result] you do not fear Me?

27860

There the arrow snake will make her nest and lay her eggs,
And hatch them and gather her young under her protection;
Indeed, the birds of prey will be gathered there [to breed],
Every one with its own kind.

27861

The lambs will supply wool for your clothing,
And the goats will bring the price of a field.

27862

Its nobles—there is no one there
Whom they may proclaim king—
And all its princes will be nothing.

27863

That the generation to come might know them, that the children still to be born
May arise and recount them to their children,

27864

My eyes weep streams of water
Because people do not keep Your law.

27865

Then Phinehas [the priest] stood up and interceded,
And so the plague was halted.

27867

So we Your people, the sheep of Your pasture,
Will give You thanks forever;
We will declare and publish Your praise from generation to generation.

27868

He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers
In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan [where Pharaoh resided].

27870

Awake, my glory!
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.

27871

Let the rivers clap their hands;
Let the mountains sing together for joy and delight

27872

She will be brought to the King in embroidered garments;
The virgins, her companions who follow her,
Will be brought to You.

27873

I will remember my song in the night;
I will meditate with my heart,
And my spirit searches:

27874

Then the king sent word and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

27875

The temple servants: the sons of Ziha, the sons of Hasupha, the sons of Tabbaoth,

27876

Azarel, Shelemiah, Shemariah,

27877

Now many people were gathered at Jerusalem to celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread in the second month; it was a very large assembly.

27878

They have also closed the doors of the [temple] porch and put out the lamps, and they have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the Holy Place to the God of Israel.

27879

No Passover like it had been celebrated in Israel since the days of Samuel the prophet; nor had any of the kings of Israel celebrated such a Passover as Josiah did with the priests, the Levites, all Judah and Israel who were present, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

27880

Thus the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all others, and He gave them rest on every side.

27881

Further, you have workmen in abundance: stonecutters and stonemasons and carpenters, and all men who are skillful in every kind of work.

27882

He brought in the priests and Levites and gathered them into the square on the east.

27883

He also sacrificed and burned incense on the high places [of pagan worship], on the hills and under every green tree.

27884

the seventeenth of Joshbekashah, his sons and his relatives, twelve;

27885

Underneath the borders were four wheels, and the axles of the wheels were on the stand. And the height of a wheel was a cubit and a half.

27886

“Then I beat them as [small as] the dust of the earth;
I crushed and stamped them as the mire (dirt, mud) of the streets.

27887

Moza became the father of Binea and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.

27888

But if you are unable to tell me [the answer], then you shall give me thirty linen tunics (undergarments) and thirty changes of [outer] clothing.” And they said to him, “Ask your riddle, so that we may hear it.”

27890

And if he who has the discharge spits on one who is clean, then he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

27891

Then the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, “We have ten [tribes’] shares in the king, and we have more claim on David than you. Why then did you treat us with contempt and ignore us [by rushing ahead]? Were we not the first to speak of bringing back our king?” But the words of the men of Judah were harsher than those of the men of Israel.

27892

and whoever sits on anything on which the man with the discharge has been sitting shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

27893

27899

You shall stand outside, and the man to whom you lend shall bring the pledge out to you.

27908

And when they say to you, ‘Why do you sigh and groan?’ you shall answer, ‘Because of the news that is coming; and every heart will melt and all hands will be frail, and every spirit will faint and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes and it will happen,’ says the Lord God.”

27909

When Judah and his brothers came to Joseph’s house, he was still there; and they fell to the ground before him.

27910

Jacob said to them, “My brothers, where are you from?” And they said, “We are from Haran.”

27911

(though the father did not do any of these things), that is, the son even eats [the food set before idols] at the mountain shrines, and defiles his neighbor’s wife,

27912

‘You will die the death of the uncircumcised [barbarian]
By the hand of strangers,
For I have spoken!’ says the Lord God.”’”

27913

For Zedekiah [the last] king of Judah had locked him up, saying, “Why do you prophesy [disaster] and say, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

27914

“Then [Zion], you will say in your heart,
‘Who has borne me these children,
Since I have been bereaved of my children
And am barren, an exile and a wanderer?
And who has reared these?
Indeed, I was left alone;
From where then did these children come?’”

27915

Look to the right [the point of attack] and see;
For there is no one who has regard for me [to act in my favor].
Escape has failed me and I have nowhere to run;
No one cares about my life.

27916

Then they despised the pleasant land [of Canaan];
They did not believe in His word nor rely on it,

27917

“As I live,” says the King,
Whose name is the Lord of hosts,
“Surely like Tabor among the mountains
Or like Carmel by the sea,
So shall he [the great king of Babylon] come.

27918

“Listen to Me, you stiff-necked people,
You who are far from righteousness (right standing with God).

27919

When the report reaches Egypt,
They will be in agony at the report about Tyre.

27920

Oh, that my ways may be established
To observe and keep Your statutes [obediently accepting and honoring them]!

27921

“His descendants I will establish forever,
And his throne [will endure] as the days of heaven.

27922

Will You perform wonders for the dead?
Shall the departed spirits arise and praise You? Selah.

27923

Yet He commanded the clouds from above
And opened the doors of heaven;

27924

The Lord loves the gates of Zion
More than all the dwellings of Jacob (Israel).

27925

“If not [and you have nothing to say], listen to me;
Keep silent, and I will teach you wisdom.”

27926

“For I do not know how to flatter, [in an appropriate way, and I fear that],
My Maker would soon take me away.

27927

Kore the son of Imnah the Levite, keeper of the East Gate, was in charge of the voluntary offerings to God, to apportion the contributions for the Lord and the most holy things.

27929

When he came to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I refrain?” And he said, “Go up and succeed, for they will be handed over to you.”

27934

The king told him, “Step aside; stand here.” And he stepped aside and stood still.

27935

“Tell the Israelites, ‘When you cross the Jordan [River] into the land of Canaan,

27936

Also whoever touches the man with the discharge shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

27937

The sons of Jahdai: Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.

27938

So Shimei arose, saddled his donkey, and went to Gath to [King] Achish to look for his servants. And Shimei went and brought them back from Gath.

27939

“Foreigners pretend obedience to me;
As soon as they hear [me], they obey me.

27940

and Jehud and Bene-berak and Gath-rimmon,

27941

They burned all the cities where they lived, and all their encampments with fire.

27942

The land on the south side belonged to Ephraim and that on the north side was Manasseh’s, and the sea was their border; they reached to [the territory of] Asher on the north and to [the territory of] Issachar on the east.

27943

and the [eastern] boundary shall go down to the Jordan [River], and its limit shall be at the Salt (Dead) Sea. This shall be your land according to its boundaries all around.’”

27944

and he shall take the cedar wood and the hyssop and the scarlet string, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slain bird as well as in the running water, and sprinkle the house seven times.

27945

from the tribe of the sons of Ephraim a leader, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan;

27946

then the priest shall calculate for him the amount of your valuation up to the Year of Jubilee; and the man shall give that [amount] on that day as a holy thing to the Lord.

27947

Further, Bezalel made the veil of blue and purple and scarlet fabric, and fine twisted linen; he made it with cherubim, the work of an embroiderer.

27948

These were numbered of the families of the Kohathites, all who did service in the Tent of Meeting (tabernacle), whom Moses and Aaron numbered according to the commandment of the Lord through Moses.

27949

So Jacob complied and fulfilled Leah’s week [of celebration]; then Laban gave him his daughter Rachel as his [second] wife.

27950

And [this is how] he made the boards [for frames] for the tabernacle: twenty boards for the south side;

27951

and you are to make two chains of pure gold like twisted cords, and fasten the corded chains to the settings.

27952

Then he embraced his brother Benjamin’s neck and wept, and Benjamin wept on his neck.

27953
