And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

And they gathered all the congregation on the first day of the second month. And they declared their pedigrees according to their families, by their fathers' house, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their heads.

But you shall set the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all its vessels, and over all its things. They shall carry the tabernacle and all its vessels. And they shall serve it, and shall camp around the tabernacle.

And the sons of Israel did according to all that Jehovah commanded Moses. So they did.

Every man of the sons of Israel shall pitch by his own banner, with the banner of their father's house. They shall pitch far off, around the tabernacle of the congregation.

All that were numbered of the camp of Judah were a hundred and eighty-six thousand and four hundred, by their armies. They shall set forth first.

All that were numbered in the camp of Reuben were a hundred fifty-one thousand, four hundred and fifty, throughout their armies. And they shall go forward in the second rank.

And the tabernacle of the congregation shall go forward with the camp of the Levites in the midst of the camp. As they camp, so they shall go forward, each man in his place, by their banners.

All that were numbered of the camp of Ephraim were a hundred eight thousand, one hundred, by their armies. And they shall go forward in the third rank.

All those who were numbered in the camp of Dan were a hundred fifty-seven thousand, six hundred. They shall go last with their banners.

And the sons of Israel did according to all that Jehovah commanded Moses. So they pitched by their banners, and so they went forward, everyone according to their families, according to the house of their fathers.

And Nadab and Abihu died before Jehovah when they offered strange fire before Jehovah in the wilderness of Sinai. And they had no sons. And Eleazar and Ithamar ministered as priest in the presence of Aaron their father.

Bring the tribe of Levi near, and present them before Aaron the priest, so that they may minister to him.

And they shall keep his charge and the charge of the whole congregation before the tabernacle of the congregation, to do the service of the tabernacle.

And they shall keep all the vessels of the tabernacle of the congregation, and the charge of the sons of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle.

And you shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his son. They are wholly given to him out of the sons of Israel.

And they shall put on it all its vessels, with which they minister about it: the fire-pans, the flesh-hooks, and the shovels, and the basins, all the vessels of the altar. And they shall spread upon it a covering of dugong skins, and put the staves into it.

And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, when the camp is to set forward, then after that the sons of Kohath shall come to carry it. But they shall not touch any holy thing lest they die. These are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation.

But do this to them, and they shall live and not die when they approach the Holy of Holies. Aaron and his sons shall go in and appoint each one of them to his service and to his burden.

But they shall not go in to watch when the holy things are covered, lest they die.

And they shall carry the curtains of the tabernacle, and the tabernacle of the congregation, its covering, and the covering of the dugong skins that is above upon it, and the hanging for the door of the tabernacle of the congregation,

and the hangings of the court, and the hanging for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and by the altar all around, and their cords, and all the instruments of their service, and all that is made for them. So they shall serve.

They numbered them from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, everyone that entered into the service, for the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.

According to the command of Jehovah they were numbered by the hand of Moses, everyone according to his service and according to his burden. So they were numbered by him as Jehovah commanded Moses.

Command the sons of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper and everyone that has an issue, and whoever is defiled by a dead body.

You shall put out both male and female. You shall put them outside the camp so that they do not defile their camps in the midst of which I dwell.

then they shall confess their sin which they have done. And he shall make restitution for his guilt in full, and add to it one fifth of it, and give it to him against whom he has sinned.

And they shall put My name upon the sons of Israel. And I, I will bless them.

and the rulers of Israel offered, the head men of their fathers' house, the rulers of the tribes; these were they who stood over the numbered ones.

And they brought their offerings before Jehovah: six covered wagons and twelve oxen, a wagon for two of the rulers, an ox for each one. And they brought them before the tabernacle.

Take it from them so that they may be used in doing the service of the tabernacle of the congregation. And you shall give them to the Levites, to every man according to his service.

But to the sons of Kohath he did not give any, because the service of the sanctuary belonging to them was that which they should carry upon their shoulders.

And Jehovah said to Moses, They shall offer their offering, each ruler on his day, for the dedication of the altar.

And Aaron shall offer the Levites before Jehovah for an offering of the sons of Israel, so that they may do the service of Jehovah.

For they are wholly given to Me from among the sons of Israel, instead of those that open every womb. The first-born of all the sons of Israel, I have taken them to Me.

And the Levites purified themselves, and they washed their clothes. And Aaron offered them, an offering before Jehovah. And Aaron made an atonement for them to purify them.

And after that the Levites went in to do their service in the tabernacle of the congregation before Aaron and before his sons. Even as Jehovah had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them.

This is that which pertains to the Levites. From twenty-five years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.

And from the age of fifty years they shall stop waiting upon the service, and shall serve no more.

But they shall minister with their brothers in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge; only he shall not serve at a service. So you shall do to the Levites as to their duties.

And Jehovah spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

And they prepared the Passover on the fourteenth day of the first month between the evenings, in the wilderness of Sinai. According to all that Jehovah commanded Moses, so all the sons of Israel did.

And there were certain men who were defiled by the dead body of a man, so that they could not prepare the Passover on that day. And they came before Moses and before Aaron on that day.

They shall keep it the fourteenth day of the second month at evening, eating it with unleavened cakes and bitter herbs.

They shall leave none of it until the morning, nor break any bone of it. According to all the ordinances of the Passover they shall keep it.

At the command of Jehovah the sons of Israel pulled up stakes, and at the command of Jehovah they pitched. As long as the cloud stayed upon the tabernacle they rested in camp.

And so when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle, according to the command of Jehovah they remained in their tents, and according to the command of Jehovah they pulled up stakes.

And so when the cloud stayed from evening to the morning, and the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they pulled up stakes. Whether by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they pulled up stakes.

Whether it was two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud stayed upon the tabernacle, remaining on it, the sons of Israel stayed in their tents and did not journey. But when it was taken up, they pulled up stakes.

At the command of Jehovah they encamped, and at the command of Jehovah they pulled up stakes. They kept the charge of Jehovah at the command of Jehovah by the hand of Moses.

Make two trumpets of silver for yourself. You shall make them of beaten work. And they shall be used for the calling of the assembly and for causing the camps to go forward.

And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall gather themselves to you at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

And if they blow with one, then the rulers who are heads of the thousands of Israel shall gather themselves to you.

When you blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall pull up stakes. They shall blow an alarm for their journeys.

And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets. And they shall be to you for an ordinance forever throughout your generations.

Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, you shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings. And they shall be to you for a memorial before Jehovah. I am Jehovah your God.

And at the mouth of Jehovah they first pulled up stakes, by the hand of Moses.

And the Kohathites pulled up stakes carrying the sanctuary. And the tabernacle was set up before they came.

These were the journeyings of the sons of Israel according to their armies when they pulled up stakes.

And they moved three days' journey from the mountain of Jehovah. And the ark of the covenant of Jehovah went before them in the three days' journey, to look for a resting-place for them.

And the cloud of Jehovah was upon them by day, when they pulled up stakes out of the camp.

From where should I get flesh to give to all this people? For they weep to me, saying, Give us flesh that we may eat.

And Jehovah said to Moses, Gather to Me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and the officers over them. And bring them to the tabernacle of the congregation so that they may stand there with you.

And I will come down and talk with you there. And I will take of the spirit on you, and will put it on them, and they shall bear the burden of the people with you so that you do not bear it yourself alone.

And Moses said, The people among whom I am are six hundred thousand footmen. And You have said, I will give them flesh so that they may eat a whole month!

And Jehovah came down in a cloud and spoke to him, and took of the spirit on him and gave it to the seventy elders. And it happened when the Spirit rested upon them, they prophesied. But they never did so again.

But two of the men stayed in the camp; the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other was Medad. And the Spirit rested upon them. And they were of those who were written, but did not go out to the tabernacle. And they prophesied in the camp.

And the people stood up all that day and all night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails. And he that gathered least gathered ten homers. And they spread them out for themselves all around the camp.

And he called the name of that place Graves of Lust, because there they buried the people that lusted.

And they said, Has Jehovah indeed spoken only by Moses? Has He not also spoken by us? And Jehovah heard.

And Jehovah came down in the pillar of the cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam. And they both came forth.

Send men so that they may search the land of Canaan, which I give to the sons of Israel. You shall send a man from every tribe of their fathers, everyone a ruler among them.

And see what the land is that they live in, whether it is good or bad; and what cities they dwell in, whether in tents or in strongholds;

So they went up and searched the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

And they went up by the south and came to Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the sons of Anak were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

And they came to the valley of Eshcol and cut from there a branch with one cluster of grapes. And they carried it between two men upon a staff, and some of the pomegranates and of the figs.

And they left and came to Moses and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh. And they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

And they told him and said, We came to the land where you sent us, and surely it flows with milk and honey. And this is the fruit of it.

But the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.

And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched to the sons of Israel, saying, The land through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eats up those who live in it. And all the people whom we saw in it were men of stature.

And they said to one another, Let us make a leader, and let us return to Egypt.

And they spoke to all the company of the sons of Israel saying, The land which we passed through to search is an exceedingly good land.

Only do not rebel against Jehovah, neither fear the people of the land. For they are bread for us. Their protection has moved from them, and Jehovah is with us. Do not fear them.

And Jehovah said to Moses, How long will this people provoke Me? And how long will it be before they believe Me, for all the signs which I have shown among them?
