Paul, a slave of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to arouse faith in those whom God has chosen, and the comprehension of religious truth,

and a man who continues to cling to the trustworthy message as he was taught it, so that he may be competent to encourage others with wholesome teaching and to convict those who oppose him.

For there are many insubordinate people, mere talkers with nothing to say, but deceivers of their own minds, especially those of the circumcision party,

whose mouths it is necessary to stop; who overturn whole families, teaching those things which it does not behoove, for the sake of disgraceful gain.

and may pay no attention to Jewish legends, or to the directions of those who turn their backs upon the Truth.

Truly to the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.

But you should speak those things which agree with sound teaching:

Older women similarly are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor addicted to much wine, teaching what is right and good,

REMIND them to be subject to princes and those invested with authority, to obey magistrates, to be ready for every good work,

It is a message to be trusted, and I want you to be emphatic about these things, so that those who believe in God may be careful to take the lead in doing good. These things are right and render service to mankind.

A man whose opinions are not those of the church, after a first and second protest, is to be kept out of your society;

And let those who belong to us learn also to be pre-eminent in good works for all necessary calls, that they be not without fruits.
