[To the Chief Musician upon gittith. A Psalm of David.] O LORD our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth! who have set your glory above the heavens.

For you have maintained my right and my cause; you sat in the throne judging right.

Arise, O LORD; let not man prevail: let the nations be judged in your sight.

His ways are always prosperous; your judgments are far above, out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he sneers at them.

He has said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.

He sits in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places does he murder the innocent: his eyes are secretly set against the poor.

Why does the wicked renounce God? he has said in his heart, You will not require it.

Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

The wicked prowl on every side, when vile men are exalted.

They have now surrounded us in our steps: they have set their eyes, crouching down to the earth;

Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me,

These things have you done, and I kept silence; you thought that I was altogether such a one as yourself: but I will rebuke you, and set them in order before your eyes.

Against you, you only, have I sinned, and done this evil in your sight: that you might be justified when you speak, and be blameless when you judge.

And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not steadfast with God.

O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set you before them.

For I have said, Mercy shall be built up forever: your faithfulness shall you establish in the very heavens.
