For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised to show God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs,
on that day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.
And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness which he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all who believe but have not been circumcised, in order that righteousness might be reckoned to them.
to those who by patience in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality, he will give eternal life;
In hope, he believed against hope, so that he became the father of many nations; as he had been told, "So shall your descendants be."
If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. Do not by your eating destroy the one for whom Christ died.
to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles in the priestly service of the gospel of God, so that the offering of the Gentiles might be acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.
and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me,
nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but it is not according to knowledge.
as it is written: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone that will make men stumble, and a rock that will make them fall; and he who believes in him will not be put to shame."
For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are God's ministers, attending to this very thing.
And he who searches the hearts of men knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
But sin, finding opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetous desire. For apart from the law sin lies dead.
and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written: "Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name";
While we were living in the flesh, our sinful passions, aroused by the law, were at work in our members to bear fruit for death.
I know and am convinced in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself; but if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean.
I am speaking in human terms, because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you once yielded your members to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now yield your members to righteousness for holiness.
You will say to me then, "Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?"
If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's.
Why, one will hardly die for a righteous manthough perhaps for a good man one will dare even to die.
Therefore consider the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who fell, but kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.
that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As it is written: "For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered."
because the law brings wrath, for where there is no law there is no transgression.
but I see in my members another law, at war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin which dwells in my members.
Let not him who eats despise him who does not, and let not him who does not eat pass judgment on him who eats; for God has accepted him.
But of Israel he says, "All day long I have held out my hands to a disobedient and contrary people."
For the scripture says to Pharaoh, "I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I may show my power in you, and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth."
For we know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.
Therefore he has mercy on whom he wills, and he hardens the heart of whom he wills.
that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever she has need from you, for she has been a helper of many and of myself also.
For even Christ did not please himself; but, as it is written, "The reproaches of those who reproached you fell on me."
I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died.
It is right not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that makes your brother stumble.
What then? Israel did not obtain what it sought. The elect obtained it, but the rest were hardened,
Did that which is good, then, become death to me? Certainly not! But it was sin, working death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be recognized as sin, so that through the commandment sin might become sinful beyond measure.
What if some did not have faith? Will their faithlessness nullify the faithfulness of God?
I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish:
All have turned aside, together they have become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."
or "Who will descend into the abyss?" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).
Why not say as we are being slanderously reported as saying and as some claim that we say "Let us do evil that good may come"? Their condemnation is just.
And so I have made it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on another man's foundation,
For your obedience has become known to all, so I am full of joy over you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.
Thanks be to Godthrough Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I of myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
greet also the church that meets in their house. Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who was the first convert of Asia for Christ.
But if our unrighteousness serves to show the righteousness of God, what shall we say? That God is unjust to inflict wrath on us? (I speak in a human way.)
So also David describes the blessedness of the man to whom God reckons righteousness apart from works:
He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.
For I do not do the good I want to do; but the evil I do not want to do is what I do.
Does not the potter have right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?
For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.
Circumcision indeed is of value if you obey the law; but if you break the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision.
And again, Isaiah says: "There shall be a root of Jesse; and he who shall rise to rule over the Gentiles, in him the Gentiles shall hope."
Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were by works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone,
So do not let your good be spoken of as evil.
But I have written very boldly to you on some points, so as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me from God,
but is now revealed and made known to all nations through the prophetic writings, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith
who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I but also all the churches of the Gentiles give thanks;
Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, those workers in the Lord. Greet the beloved Persis, who has worked hard in the Lord.
so that by God's will I may come to you with joy, and together with you be refreshed.
Greet Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints who are with them.
Greet Herodion, my kinsman. Greet those in the household of Narcissus who are in the Lord.
Greet Apelles, who is approved in Christ. Greet those who belong to the household of Aristobulus.
Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren who are with them.
