And Joshua ascended from Gilgal, both he and all the people of war with him, and all the men of might,

When they had made an end of dividing the land by her coasts then the children of Israel gave an inheritance unto Joshua the son of Nun among them:

These are the inheritances which Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun, and the ancient fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel divided by lot in Shiloh before the LORD, in the door of the tabernacle of witness, and so made an end of dividing the country.

These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and to the strangers that Sojourned among them that whosoever killed any person ignorantly, the same might flee thither and should not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

And so Joshua made a covenant with the people the same day and set ordinances and laws before them in Shechem.
