I am thankful to God, whom I serve, as my ancestors did, with a clear conscience, when I remember you, as I never fail to do, in my prayers--night and day alike,

Desiring to see you, keeping in my memory your weeping, so that I may be full of joy;

for I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, as it dwells (I feel sure) in yourself.

Now, however, that grace has been revealed through the coming of our Savior the Messiah Jesus, who has destroyed death and through the gospel has brought life and release from death into full view.

in gentleness correcting those who oppose him: perhaps God may give them repentance leading to a full knowledge of the truth,

Some of them worm their way into families and get hold of the women-folk who feel crushed by the burden of their sins ??wayward creatures of impulse,

These women are always studying but are never able to arrive at a full knowledge of the truth.

But thou didst follow my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,

For a time will come when people will not tolerate sound teaching. They will follow their own wishes, and, in their itching for novelty, procure themselves a crowd of teachers.

But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Luke is the only one [of my fellow-workers still] with me. Pick up Mark and bring him with you for he [will be] helpful to me in [my] ministry.
