"The time will come when the skies are shut up tightly and no rain falls because your people sinned against you. When they direct their prayers toward this place, renew their allegiance to you, and turn away from their sin because you punish them, then listen from heaven and forgive the sin of your servants, your people Israel. Certainly you will then teach them the right way to live and send rain on your land that you have given your people to possess. "The time will come when the land suffers from a famine, a plague, blight and disease, or a locust invasion, or when their enemy lays siege to the cities of the land, or when some other type of plague or epidemic occurs. When all your people Israel pray and ask for help, as they acknowledge their pain and spread out their hands toward this temple, then listen from your heavenly dwelling place, forgive their sin, and act favorably toward each one based on your evaluation of his motives. "Foreigners, who do not belong to your people Israel, will come from a distant land because of your reputation. When they hear about your great reputation and your ability to accomplish mighty deeds, they will come and direct their prayers toward this temple. Then listen from your heavenly dwelling place and answer all the prayers of the foreigners. Then all the nations of the earth will acknowledge your reputation, obey you like your people Israel do, and recognize that this temple I built belongs to you. "When you direct your people to march out and fight their enemies, and they direct their prayers to the Lord toward his chosen city and this temple I built for your honor, then listen from heaven to their prayers for help and vindicate them. "The time will come when your people will sin against you (for there is no one who is sinless!) and you will be angry with them and deliver them over to their enemies, who will take them as prisoners to their own land, whether far away or close by. May he make us submissive, so we can follow all his instructions and obey the commandments, rules, and regulations he commanded our ancestors. May the Lord our God be constantly aware of these requests of mine I have presented to him, so that he might vindicate his servant and his people Israel as the need arises. Then all the nations of the earth will recognize that the Lord is the only genuine God. May you demonstrate wholehearted devotion to the Lord our God by following his rules and obeying his commandments, as you are presently doing."

Wake up! Wake up! Clothe yourself with strength, O Zion! Put on your beautiful clothes, O Jerusalem, holy city! For uncircumcised and unclean pagans will no longer invade you.

The angel spoke up to those standing all around, "Remove his filthy clothes." Then he said to Joshua, "I have freely forgiven your iniquity and will dress you in fine clothing."

Nevertheless, as the Lord has assigned to each one, as God has called each person, so must he live. I give this sort of direction in all the churches.

If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that when you assemble it does not lead to judgment. I will give directions about other matters when I come.

Both the apostles and the elders met together to deliberate about this matter.

For it seemed best to the Holy Spirit and to us not to place any greater burden on you than these necessary rules:

But if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for the church of God?

The hired hand, who is not a shepherd and does not own sheep, sees the wolf coming and abandons the sheep and runs away. So the wolf attacks the sheep and scatters them.

As a shepherd seeks out his flock when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will seek out my flock. I will rescue them from all the places where they have been scattered on a cloudy, dark day.

Reject a divisive person after one or two warnings.

Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme.

Now I, Paul, appeal to you personally by the meekness and gentleness of Christ (I who am meek when present among you, but am full of courage toward you when away!) --

turn this man over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord.

I said before when I was present the second time and now, though absent, I say again to those who sinned previously and to all the rest, that if I come again, I will not spare anyone,

But now Christ has come as the high priest of the good things to come. He passed through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, that is, not of this creation,

"'I will put my tabernacle in your midst and I will not abhor you.

He is the head of the body, the church, as well as the beginning, the firstborn from among the dead, so that he himself may become first in all things.

And God put all things under Christ's feet, and he gave him to the church as head over all things.

But practicing the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Christ, who is the head.

because the husband is the head of the wife as also Christ is the head of the church -- he himself being the savior of the body.

He has not held fast to the head from whom the whole body, supported and knit together through its ligaments and sinews, grows with a growth that is from God.

Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body. Whether Jews or Greeks or slaves or free, we were all made to drink of the one Spirit.

For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Having been buried with him in baptism, you also have been raised with him through your faith in the power of God who raised him from the dead.

And this prefigured baptism, which now saves you -- not the washing off of physical dirt but the pledge of a good conscience to God -- through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

How blessed is the one whom you choose, and allow to live in your palace courts. May we be satisfied with the good things of your house -- your holy palace.

When my life was ebbing away, I called out to the Lord, and my prayer came to your holy temple.

In him the whole building, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord,

But as for me, because of your great faithfulness I will enter your house; I will bow down toward your holy temple as I worship you.

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord's throne is in heaven. His eyes watch; his eyes examine all people.

Yes, a time is coming when watchmen will call out on the mountains of Ephraim, "Come! Let us go to Zion to worship the Lord our God!"'"

By the rivers of Babylon we sit down and weep when we remember Zion.

Sing praises to the Lord, who rules in Zion! Tell the nations what he has done!

Mount Zion rejoices; the towns of Judah are happy, because of your acts of judgment.

Remember your people whom you acquired in ancient times, whom you rescued so they could be your very own nation, as well as Mount Zion, where you dwell!

Is anyone among you ill? He should summon the elders of the church, and they should pray for him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.

Elders who provide effective leadership must be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard in speaking and teaching.

They did so, sending their financial aid to the elders by Barnabas and Saul.

So as your fellow elder and a witness of Christ's sufferings and as one who shares in the glory that will be revealed, I urge the elders among you:

The reason I left you in Crete was to set in order the remaining matters and to appoint elders in every town, as I directed you.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned.

Jesus answered, "I tell you the solemn truth, unless a person is born of water and spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

Peter said to them, "Repent, and each one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Planted in the Lord's house, they grow in the courts of our God.

I desperately want to be in the courts of the Lord's temple. My heart and my entire being shout for joy to the living God.

Certainly spending just one day in your temple courts is better than spending a thousand elsewhere. I would rather stand at the entrance to the temple of my God than live in the tents of the wicked.

Ascribe to the Lord the splendor he deserves! Bring an offering and enter his courts!

praising God and having the good will of all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number every day those who were being saved.

So if the whole church comes together and all speak in tongues, and unbelievers or uninformed people enter, will they not say that you have lost your minds?

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.

If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. If he refuses to listen to the church, treat him like a Gentile or a tax collector.

For in the first place, when you come together as a church I hear there are divisions among you, and in part I believe it.

As they went through the towns, they passed on the decrees that had been decided on by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the Gentile believers to obey.

According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master-builder I laid a foundation, but someone else builds on it. And each one must be careful how he builds.

you yourselves, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood and to offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Moving on from Perga, they arrived at Pisidian Antioch, and on the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and sat down.

Then Jesus left that place and entered their synagogue.

Then they went to Capernaum. When the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.

Now Jesus came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom. He stood up to read,

not abandoning our own meetings, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and even more so because you see the day drawing near.
