But the effect of the order is love coming from a clean heart, and a knowledge of what is right, and true faith:

desiring to be law teachers, understanding neither what they say, nor about what they confidently assert.

This, then, is the charge that I lay upon you, Timothy, my Child, in accordance with what was predicted of you--Fight the good fight in the spirit of those predictions,

Whose desire is that all men may have salvation and come to the knowledge of what is true.

who gave himself for the redemption of all mankind: this is what was to be promulg'd in due time:

And of this I became a preacher and an Apostle (what I say is true, not false,) and a teacher of the Gentiles in the true faith.

but, what becomes women making profession of the fear of God, by good works.

Deacons likewise must be men worthy of respect [honorable, financially ethical, of good character], not double-tongued [speakers of half-truths], not addicted to wine, not greedy for dishonest gain,

But if I am long in coming, this will make clear to you what behaviour is right for men in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and base of what is true.

what I tell you is certain, and deserves entire credit.

This is what you must urge and teach.

take care how you behave, and what you teach. persevere in these duties: for by the practice of them, you will save both yourself, and those who hear you.

But if a widow has children or grandchildren, they should first learn to fulfill their duty toward their own household and so repay their parents what is owed them. For this is what pleases God.

Now at the same time, they also learn to be idle as they go from house to house; and not only idle, but also gossips and busybodies [meddlers in things that do not concern them], talking about things they should not mention.

In like manner also the good works [of some] are previously manifest; and it is not possible that what they have besides should be concealed.

Those who have Christian believers as their masters must not take liberties with them because they are brothers; they must be all the better servants because those who get the good of their service are believers and beloved. This is what you are to teach and preach.

If anyone teaches a different doctrine [i.e., from what has been urged above], and does not agree to [proclaim the] sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and to teaching that is godly [i.e., in harmony with godliness],

Bitter talk of men who, being evil in mind and dead to what is true, take the faith to be a way of making profit.

[Urge them] to do what is good, to be rich in [the practice of] good deeds, to be generous and willing to share [with others].

storing up for themselves a good foundation for the future, in order that they may take hold of [what is] truly life.

Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you; continue to turn away from the worldly, futile phrases and contradictions of what is falsely called "knowledge,"
