There is no darkness nor death-shade, For workers of iniquity to be hidden there;

For he does not give man a fixed time to come before him to be judged.

When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.

Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.

My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.

so that we may not add to our sins, and lawlessness will be reckoned against us, speaking many words before LORD.

Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God's?

For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

Let your eyes be turned to the heavens, and lifted up to see the skies; they are higher than you.

If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

of such an ungodly person as thou, and of the son of man that is righteous - as thou pretendest to be?

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

Theirs is a useless plea God won't listen; the Almighty won't pay any attention.


“And now, because He has not [quickly] punished in His anger,
Nor has He acknowledged transgression and arrogance well [and seems unaware of the wrong of which a person is guilty],

Be patient with me a little longer, and I will inform you,
for there is still more to be said on God’s behalf.

He will not take off his eyes from the just: and with kings upon the throne, and he will seat them for glory, and they shall be exalted.

And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction;

And he will announce to them their work, and their transgressions, for they will be strong.

Their ear is open to his teaching, and he gives them orders so that their hearts may be turned from evil.

As for such as be fained hypocrites, they heap up wrath for themselves: for they call not upon him, though they be his prisoners.

Thus their soul perisheth in foolishness, and their life shall be condemned among the fornicators.

Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.

But now you are occupied with the case of the wicked; but justice and judgment will be served.

Be careful that no one lures you with riches;
do not let a large ransom lead you astray.

Will thy cry avail, that thou be not in distress, Or all the forces of thy'strength?

Take care, you must not turn to mischief, for because of this you have been tried by misery.

Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?


“Remember that you should magnify God’s work,
Of which men have sung.

With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt.

He sheweth by it to his friend substance, Anger against perversity.

After him a voice shall rear; he will thunder with the voice of his majesty: and he will not leave them behind when his voice shall be heard.

He does wonders, more than may be searched out; great things of which we have no knowledge;

Into the hand of every man he sealeth, For the knowledge by all men of His work.

Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:

And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.

Whether it be for correction, or for his land, Or for lovingkindness, that he cause it to come.

Have you knowledge of God's ordering of his works, how he makes the light of his cloud to be seen?

How thy garments are warm, when he quieteth the earth by the south wind?

Teach us what we shall say unto him; for we cannot order our speech by reason of darkness.

Shall it be told him that I speak? if a man speak, surely he shall be swallowed up.

And now men see not the light as it gleameth, it is hidden in the skies. But the wind passeth by and cleareth them.

A bright light comes out of the north; God's glory is greatly to be feared.

It is not we that can find out the Almighty: for in power, equity, and righteousness, he is higher than can be expressed.

By whom were its measures fixed? Say, if you have wisdom; or by whom was the line stretched out over it?

when I made clouds to be its clothes and thick darkness its swaddling blanket,

And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

The earth is changed as clay is by a seal;
its hills stand out like the folds of a garment.

And from the wicked their light is withholden, and the high arm shall be broken.

Knowest thou, when thou wast born, how old thou shouldest be?

By what way is the light parted, which scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

By whom has the way been cut for the flowing of the rain, and the flaming of the thunder;

The waters shall be hid as a stone, and the face of the depth will be taken.

Do you make Mazzaroth come out in its right time, or are the Bear and its children guided by you?

Is your voice sent up to the cloud, so that you may be covered by the weight of waters?

Canst thou thunder also that they may go their way, and be obedient unto thee, saying, 'Lo here are we'?

Who turneth the clots to dust, and then to be clots again?

When they bow down in dens -- Abide in a thicket for a covert?

Is the number of their months fixed by you? or is the time when they give birth ordered by you?

They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.

Their sons will be fat, they will increase with grain; they will go forth and not turn back to them.


“Who sent out the wild donkey free [from dependence on man]?
And who has loosed the bonds of the wild donkey [to survive in the wild],

Unto whom I have given the wilderness to be their house, and the untilled land to be their dwelling place:

Can you hold the wild ox to a furrow by its harness?
Will it plow the valleys behind you?

Will you be looking for him to come back, and get in your seed to the crushing-floor?

Indeed, it leaves its eggs to the earth, and it lets [them] be warmed on [the] ground,

Without a thought that they may be crushed by the foot, and broken by the beasts of the field?

She dealeth hardly with her young ones, as if they were not hers: Though her labor be in vain,'she is without fear;

Do you give strength to the horse? is it by your hand that his neck is clothed with power?

that he letteth himself be driven forth like a grasshopper, whereas the stout neighing that he maketh, is fearful?

They paw in the valley, and it exults with strength; it goes out to meet [the] battle.

He will laugh at fear, and he will not be dismayed; and he will not turn back from the face of the sword.

The bow is sounding against him; he sees the shining point of spear and arrow.

Or is it by your orders that the eagle goes up, and makes his resting-place on high?

His young have blood for their drink, and where the dead bodies are, there is he to be seen.

The LORD continued his response to Job by saying:

"Can he that striveth with the Almighty be at rest? Should not he which disputeth with God, give him an answer?"

Wilt thou also disannul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me, that thou mayest be righteous?

Put on the ornaments of your pride; be clothed with glory and power:

Let your wrath be overflowing; let your eyes see all the sons of pride, and make them low.
